SSS Cosmic Policing System: Overpowered Cop's Odyssey

Chapter 110: Prowess of Theft!

Bang!

The nozzle of the shotgun ignited mercilessly, spitting out a massive caliber bullet.

Roy's pupils constricted, his gall lurching to his throat as his heart palpitated in horror.

Shattered shards of golden ethereal shield fragments scattered in the bullet's wake.

The bullet swept straight for its mark, hitting true to the forehead and flinging Roy backwards in recoil.

His figure skidded through the plains, kicking up dust as he scraped through the soil, leaving behind a long shallow trench.

"Damn it, that hurt!" Roy spat with a pained groan as he struggled back up.

His forehead throbbed painfully as the crumpled remains of the bullet fell off from the indentation on his head.

Now he knew the true value of comprehensions. Just now, if not for his comprehension: Impact, he might have been dead!

His skill Absolute Defense too had a hand to play in his survival, but its role wasn't as vital.

He stared forward, and he saw her figure looming forth, the determination to kill imminent in her strides, as she held his own weapon against him.

The two borrowed stun batons appeared in his grasp. Refusing to back down, he moved forward to meet her head-on.

Scarily high voltage buzzed through the weapon as his skill Electric Amp buffed the lightning charge of the weapon to the highest it could take.

Milky-gold ether bloomed across his frame, concentrating on his foot. In a blink, he burst into a blur.

Alstera saw this and didn't waver, her arm raising upwards, positioning the barrel as her eye swerved around, tracking and staying true with Roy's frame at unnatural speeds.

She waited for a bit, then her finger on the trigger tightened.

Once more the bullet streaked through the air, meeting Roy mid-movement, threatening to plunge straight into his heart.

A large amount of Genesis ether flowed, forming into an illusionary gold breastplate.

His will bloomed as his comprehension responded. He took control of the projectile the moment it made contact with his newly formed armor, and he absorbed it.

Alstera never saw this coming. She had expected the strike to at least knock Roy back once more.

How could she know that the only reason that happened the first time was because Roy was caught by surprise and hadn't fully understood how to use his full prowess — not that he did now.

Lightning sparked across the atmosphere as Alstera felt the danger of the strike that was already before her.

But she didn't fret, eyes still cold with determination and certainty. Her billowing darkness pulsed from her figure in waves as she strained harder on her skill.

The world seemed to pause when suddenly reality shifted…

Roy blinked and found himself standing still, a gun in his hands, and a looming current-filled baton reaching for a heavy strike.

"What th—" His exclamation was cut short as the baton struck firmly into his face, current digging into his system, drying blood streams and burning organs.

Booom!

The air clapped heavily as Roy was once more sent flying.

This time he didn't even have a chance to erect a defense. The twist of positions and situation happened so quickly he still couldn't wrap his head around it.

He winced in pain, his back still laying on the cold hard floor, as blood streamed from his mouth and nose.

What the hell was going on?

"Wait… the system said that she could steal anything…" His heart raced as he finally fathomed the weight behind those words.

She stole his gun — at first that was understandable. But this time not only did she steal his batons, his position was swapped with hers, and she struck with both his skills Bash and Electric Amp, charging the strike!

Didn't that mean that she could steal even abstract things like moments and fate?!

Once more he struggled to his feet. Deep down he rejoiced he hadn't summoned any armor, lest his protection be used against him.

He dismissed the gun in his arms, not daring to shoot. The result of trying something like that was quite obvious.

He gazed at her looming figure, treading forward slowly, and grimaced.

He was at a loss at how to fight against someone like her.

Wasn't her skill a bit too overpowered?

[Host has to realize nothing is perfect!]

The system chimed with advice…

Roy's eyes brightened as he thought of something true. The first two times when he struck, she evaded him.

And those two times he didn't use a weapon in his strikes…

Realizing this, ether bloomed on his fists as he decided to try his luck striking with bare hands.

His figure burst once more relentlessly forward, his ether rippling as his right fist retracted, his waist twisting backwards to the right.

He appeared before her, his face meeting hers. He was so close he could perceive the flowery fragrance of her body.

But his gaze remained cold, forcefully swallowing back down all sense of melancholy and hesitation.

His fist struck forward, tearing through the air at quick speeds.

Bang!

Like a gunshot, the clap rang violently as the fist broke through the sound barrier… But he still missed.

"Annoying!" He hissed, aggrieved. Now he was sure that without a weapon she couldn't turn his attack against him, but even then she could still run.

He gazed at her in the distance. She stared back at him, and he caught sight of her cheek — a cut streaked through and bleeding.

Obviously he wasn't fast enough, or a whole side of her head would be missing instead.

His eyes simmered as an illusionary armor coalesced on his figure — a crafty way of using the skill Absolute Defense.

He clenched and unclenched. Maybe this way he could use Bash.

Once more he streaked forward, appearing before her, his fist catapulting forward, and again she vanished.

Unfortunately for her, Roy had learned. He had a skill: Martial Arts (A).

Boosting his natural combat IQ, he had factored a possible solution… transmit a long-distance strike.

Roy couldn't do long range without weapons… well, conventionally.

But if we are talking about using a martial art technique to push a strike through the air? That he could do.

Plus with his comprehension on Impact…

Mass distortion streamed through space, as condensed air filled with ether and bound by an abstract force of Impact, drove mercilessly into her guts.

Due to the unnatural nature of the attack, it produced no sound, except for a faint feeble grunt from Alstera.

The Lady Lord never saw it coming!

Roy almost felt like jumping in joy as he saw her frame being kicked out of sight, leaving behind a trail of blood and pieces of organs in her wake.

At first it felt exhilarating landing a punch of his own after being beaten brutally by the other party.

Until he remembered who he was engaged with and the pain struck true, as he scrambled foreward in a hurry to go check if she was okay.

And Roy saw her, struggling to get up, the darkness billowing more intensely, she raised her head and met his gaze.

Roy could see it, the raw pain, realization and regret.

Black tears pooled her eyes, as she mouthed to him the words. "Sorry..."

Roy was about to rush foreward to embrace her, as a tide of self guilt and regret filled his mind.

But before he could move, she vanished and a chimed followed.

[Congratulations! Order of Theft has retreated from your territory!]

Roy stared silently at the pool of blood she left behind... The pain raw in his heart, he truly got carried away in that battle just now.

But no matter how much it stug his heart he could only seal such volatile emotions at the back of his mind... He had a feeling he would be seeing enough of her soon.

Then he turned his attention to another lord clashing with his subordinates, cracking his fist, his eyes flickered with sinister intentions.
