Chapter 108: Still Caught Up In The Past
Pulsing waves of pure energy rippled through intricate circuits as the titan of a construct stood holding the attack.
Its mouth opened unnaturally wide as a cannon-like mechanism protruded forth, the buzzing charge of energy accumulating to its peak.
Ethan stood midair right beside the head of the mega mech, his eyes glowing pure white as he put full focus on controlling his summon.
A form of heat so searing that the air twisted in its presence began emitting from the protruded cannon, when suddenly everything was encompassed by a brilliant white light.
A pulse of an energy beam, so concentrated yet overwhelming, spilled out from the belly of the mecha.
Cracks spread further through the surface ground where its mountainous legs stood, as the earth was further deformed from the pressure of recoil.
The hammer bathing in such catastrophic force?
Naturally, it couldn't bear it, as glistening cracks started spreading through the humongous bronze surface.
Lana, the perpetrator of the attack, got instant backlash. Her frame trembled, falling back to the earth like a kite cut off from strings, as she coughed out mouthfuls of blood.
It got worse as the colossal hammer slowly shattered and disintegrated into nothing.
Her red eyes stared at the skies, at Ethan, as fury brewed through her very being. The level of humiliation she had gotten today was too much!
First, she was shot and injured by a mere guard. Then three Lords, Lana included, were manhandled by a single subordinate. Then another came and was still able to blast them all away in one attack.
Then the Lord came, and she couldn't even last a second before a single swing of his. And now one of her greatest attacks was nullified by another random subordinate.
Since she stepped into this land, her ego had been shattered over and over again, her confidence stifled to the utmost limit.
Embers of rage burned in the depths of her gaze, filled with raw hatred, as her teeth ground together in frustration.
This emotion… this frustration… it was good. Just exactly what she needed to turn things around…
Slowly her eyes began being coated by red, as her ether, which seemed to have been dwindling to almost nothing, now flared brighter, taking another hue.
Her lips slowly twisted into a depraved, rage-filled smile. She had reached the requirements to unlock a very special ability of hers.
[Amazon's Wrath (SSS)]
Back on Ethan's side, after navigating them out of imminent disaster, his frame now looked haggard and exhausted.
The colossal summon beside him slowly dissipated into nothing as the ether used in summoning it had been used up.
Leaving Ethan's frame to fall through the skies.
Though he was saved, caught by his Lord Roy.
The Captain's vision was already blurry. This was the first time he was summoning a mecha. Not only that, he had to pour his all into this attack.
Naturally, it left him spent…
A gratified smile graced Roy's lips.
"You guys have really gotten stronger… Thank you."
And with that said, he reached to his control over space, and Ethan's body vanished. The guy needed rest…
He turned back, glancing at his opponents, who seemed to have not given up.
Roy frowned as he asked:
"You know you guys could have just left like I asked… We don't have to antagonize each other."
Merkan, who was crawling out of an acidic pond, spat venomously:
"You bastard! I will kill you regardless of reason!!!"
From the side, Haron was back, twisting some joints back into place as he directed his gaze to Alstera.
"What are you doing? If you went serious, taking him down isn't meant to be a challenge."
"Don't tell me you're still holding hopes of being allies with him!" Lux barked, as he descended the skies, pointing at Alstera.
The atmosphere grew tense as all Lords focused their gaze on her…
Alstera, who was still battling with emotions, had to put these aside for now. Despite all the burning glares, she focused her gaze on Roy.
"Is there a chance we could—"
Her statement was cut off by Roy, throwing his hands in the air as though surrendering.
"Fine, you caught me… I was never going to let anyone off!"
His statement barely finished traveling through the air when his figure blurred, streaking past all the others in a blink. He was once more before Alstera, this time more prepared.
How could a Lord dare manipulate the space of his territory in his presence?
His newly mutated stat Will bloomed as he solidified his grasp of space in her surroundings, making his hold so tight that trying to teleport now would be akin to swimming in thick mud.
But somehow, just at the moment his grip was so close to getting to her neck, he felt it…
Something he never thought possible. It was as though his right to space in his territory flickered out of his control. It was for a brief second, but it was enough for the Lady Lord to escape once more.
She appeared this time not that far away from Roy, her hands on her chest as she spoke to him, her voice heavy with bitterness, sadness, and confusion.
"Why? Why are you still opposed to this since I'm here? Did you forget your promise to me? I didn't. I remembered every day for the past three years I was stuck on this godforsaken plane!"
She heaved heavily, her chest rising and falling, her eyes remaining steady on Roy.
By this point, everyone could guess these two had history back on Earth.
Meanwhile, Roy on the other hand was staring at his hands in disbelief.
"What just happened?" His mind stormed in panic.
He felt his control over his territory — not just space but over the entire thing as a whole — slipping his grasp. Even if it was just a split second, the terror of the loss was fresh in his veins.
Surprisingly, his system spoke up in quick explanation:
[Host has just encountered the true nature of a trait of a First-Class Order Bearer…
After level 70, Order Bearers will be able to wield a fraction of the true might of their Orders.
And Host just experienced a trait of the Order of Theft — the ability to steal anything! Even abstract or supernatural ties.
Lord Alstera stole your control over your territory, even though due to your might she could only do this for a fraction of a second.]
Roy's eyes lit up.
"So if I reach level 70 I get something like that?"
[Host would definitely get one…]
Just then, a voice snapped him back to reality. It was Alstera, still speaking…
He sighed.
"This girl… Don't tell me she's still caught up with the past? Even if I wanted to, our opposing Orders would clash, and nature itself would deny us the chance."
