NOVEL NEXT Chapter 50: monster
I heard a groan next to me as I woke up Elise was sitting up holding her head he hair was a mess if i didn't know better i would have thought we did something Elise had water gather in her hand as she drank it
I got up and went over to Elise's side giving her a kiss as i lifted her up in my arm's she smiled hugging closer to my chest I carried her into the bathroom with a wave of her hand and water started filling the tub while that was happening put my mana into a rune on the side of the tub making it heat up when I thought it was good I stepped in gently setting Elise down as I sat down next to her
" thank you my love " she gave me a quick kiss we got cleaned up and dressed before heading to breakfast were told everyone we would be leaving for a hunt that we picked up last night Emily wanted to come but we didn't want to put her in danger so i said no Amelia was pissed after hearing this but Elise managed to calm her down and telling her to focus on building there business here
before we left I had shadow and James stay behind to watch over everyone when I told James that I saw lazza tense up and give him a dirty look because of the smirk he had on his face I didn't think much of it as I called icarus to us with a heated gust of wind she landed in front of us Elise,lazza and I got on icarus
After the beautiful Phoenix took of Elise brought out a map turns out she is a great navigator " it will probably take is a few days to get there even on her " lazza and a nodded as Elise pats icarus gently " go northwest " icarus let out a screech turning toward that direction
As we started on our way Elise came over to me and sat laying her head on me as we watched the world go by enjoying its beauty behind lazza had a sour expression on her face but we didn't see it
A couple days later we landed outside of a small town unlike the all crystal capital here the building were most stone or wood making it feel like a traditional medieval town in the center of town there was a group of Dwarves gathered with worried and angry looks a few were shouting at each other with there gems glowing red and purple
" you can't expect us to take off after her it's a death sentence against that thing we are lucky the thing only ate a few livestock and took a kid we all could be dead right now " a male Dwarve in leather armor and a musket on his back his
a female dwarve he was arguing with scowled as her gems started switching from red to purple " we have to do something if it was your child you would have rushed out there already " the man shook his head "your wrong if it meant risking more lives I would let the creature have them " the female practically shook with anger before spitting on the ground " your just a fucking cowered "
Just as things were about to explode the group noticed us
the male Dwarve gripped his musket tightly
" who are you " Elise walked forward with her hands up " my name is Elise this is my husband and the woman next to him is our close friend we hunters here to deal with the basilisk " the group gave us wired and cautious looksbut we were use to it we get these looks alot even more so when we have Emily with us
" it's about time someone came if someone was here sooner my daughter wouldn't have been taken " the woman stormed over to Elise " I'm sorry about that miss but someone is here now if you want a chance to save your daughter you should do your best to help us" the woman took a breath as Elise looked over at me as I looked back at her confused
" you have more experience in these things what should we do " I stood there for a second " right " I asked the woman if there were tracks or something that could help us find the monster she nodded and started showing us the way we ended up at a animal pen with blood and torn livestock everywhere there were some tracks leading away from the that horrible scene to behind a fence were more blood and a bit of pieces of cloth can be seen
" this is were it took my daughter " I could hear the struggle in her voice to keep it together as she pointed to the place with the blood and cloth Elise put a hand on the woman shoulder to comfort her " we will do everything we can to get her back I promise " the woman had tears coming down her face at this point unable to say anything
While that was happening I crouched down looking at the tracks the led into some tall grass nearby that was connected to some woods i looked over at icarus who was on my shoulder and fun size right now " do you think you can follow the trail " icarus chirped nodding and flapping her wings
smiling I looked back at Elise and lazza " we can follow icarus to find it let's go " nodding they both followed as icarus took off from my shoulder staying in her small size As she leads the way looking up I saw It was about to turn night in a couple hours I would have liked to wait tell tomorrow morning but that would be a death sentence for the child so I didn't have a choice
After following the trail for a bit we started hearing crying icarus came back to me as we all ran in that direction the girl we were looking for was there laying next to a tree her entire body stiff except her head her left arm was also bloody and obviously broken from being dragged there as we got closer the little girl noticed us " help me please " she pleaded with tears coming down her face Just as I was about to reach her I quickly dodged to the side pulling the little girl with me using my element
Were I and the little girl just were a bladed tail was stuck in the ground ' I knew that didn't feel right ' I thought to myself the creature leapt from a near by tree slashing at me with it's tail but I dodged again throwing the girl to Elise who caught her gently " it will be ok now we got " as that was happening I got a good look at the basilisk it looked like a giant lizard with a very sharp looking tail it hissed at us as it backed up and the last of the light disappeared from the trees
Lucky lazza is a goblin so she has better eye sight at night she raised her rifle shooting the basilisk in the leg while it's guard was down icarus shot a bright ball in the air lighting up the area as I ran forward see this the basilisk went to take another slash at me but found itself barely able to move instead of trying to hit me with its tail it opened its mouth and spat a black glob of goop at me but it froze and fell to the ground before it could hit me
When I was close enough I grabbed my staff extending it's blades and with a twist of my body enhanced by my elements I slashed the basilisk in half
" now that's the power of teamwork I almost feel bad " I said looking back at Elise and lazza "I'll take this little girl back to her mother" Elise said starting to walk back to the town lazza follow close " I'll catch up soon " I yelled to her looking around that was when i noticed a tunnel near by
Inside there was a nest with a egg on it and a few carcasses nearby ' I guess this is where the monster's nest was' I grabbed the egg not wanting to leave it here plus I was going to destroy the nest and I would feel a bit bad if I destroy it going back out side I looked at icarus asking her to blow up the nest and she did by shooting a small fireball inside of the tunnel rubbing her head I turned around heading back to the town
Back at the town I saw Elise standing near the the mother daughter duo as they embraced each other happy to be reunited soon the town doctor came and started treating the daughter as that was happening the woman went onto Elise grabbing her hand " thank you so much I thought I had lost her thank you so much "
