Ch. 139
Chapter 139: Final Examination
Bell Moonshadow clearly remembered that it had taken her a full half-month to barely reach the entry level when she had first learned this witchcraft. But Janna had instead completely skipped the beginner step and leapt straight into the proficient stage.
"Has anyone ever told you that you have exceptional talent in witchcraft?"
"Yes, people have always said that. And I’ve always been aware of it."
Looking at the calm expression on Janna’s face, Bell Moonshadow had long since gotten used to it.
However, what Bell Moonshadow truly meant wasn’t just limited to the narrow scope of basic witchcraft.
Even subjects like Transfiguration and Contract Studies, which were notoriously difficult to get started with, seemed to come easily and naturally to Janna.
That was something Bell Moonshadow couldn’t quite understand.
So much so that, for a long period, Bell Moonshadow had mistakenly assumed that Janna actually possessed three witch talents.
And she suspected the third witch talent was an A-level ability that allowed her to master all witchcrafts quickly.
But according to the apprentice records, Janna was simply an unranked apprentice who happened to possess two B-level talents. Even her background from the Lower City District was nothing remarkable.
"I remember that white-tier apprentice named Andre Green seemed to come from the same Lower City District as Janna—and his talent also seemed pretty good—"
Shaking her head, cutting off those baseless speculations in her mind, Bell Moonshadow’s gaze returned to Janna.
"What are you doing?"
Seeing Janna suddenly take out a notebook and start writing, Bell Moonshadow furrowed her brows in confusion.
"Vivian has been in seclusion at home recently, so I’m preparing notes summarizing the key points from the missed classes to help her study at home."
"You’ve been making notes for her all this time?"
Looking at Janna, who had her head down and was calmly and seriously compiling the notes, Bell Moonshadow couldn’t help but feel a twinge of frustration.
"Yes, but this is a paid service. She has to pay me with academic credits."
Hearing Janna’s reply, the tension in Bell Moonshadow’s face suddenly eased.
"That’s actually a pretty good way to earn academic credits."
"Yes, as long as she studies seriously with my notes, she shouldn’t fail the finals."
The scratching of the quill pen echoed softly as neat, graceful writing filled the notebook.
Bell Moonshadow, who had been secretly watching from the side, suddenly asked:
"Can I rent your notes?"
"As long as Vivian returns them to me, there’s no problem."
Letting out a small sigh, after finishing the class notes, Janna stored the notebook into the Thorn Bracelet, then casually responded to Bell Moonshadow, a potential customer.
"Alright, I hope you all go back and practice this witchcraft properly. I also hope I’ll still see you here next semester—class dismissed."
"Goodbye, Professor Margaret—"
Watching Mary Margaret’s departing figure, the students in the classroom no longer chatted and laughed as before but were instead shrouded in a heavy gloom.
Besides the fear of failing the finals and having to repeat the semester, there were also those who had yet to reach ten points of Spirit Power, which meant they couldn’t even be considered wizard apprentices.
These students had begun to show signs of despair, the dark circles under their eyes revealing their anxiety in recent days.
"I’m heading to the library later, want to come with me?"
"I... I’ll come."
"Then let’s go."
Over the past few days of classes, with Vivian absent, it was Bell Moonshadow who had been sitting with her instead.
Despite Bell Moonshadow’s fierce words during apprentice combat training, she was quite the quiet type in private.
She was used to doing things alone.
Aside from Janna, she was rarely seen speaking to anyone else in class.
The night wind was chilly, and the stars twinkled.
It was late October in Turin, and autumn was nearing its end.
The night air was no longer as hot as it had been in previous months and had quickly turned cold.
"Only half a month left until the exams—"
Though Bell Moonshadow had planned to study with Janna at the library, she didn’t last even an hour before awkwardly greeting Janna and leaving first.
Seeing this, Janna merely nodded and continued immersing herself in the satisfying feeling of speed-reading through Magic Reading.
It wasn’t until nine o'clock, after prolonged use of Magic Reading had depleted her Spirit Power, that she reluctantly returned the book and left the library.
The cold night wind blew again. Brushing back the hair tossed by the breeze, and accompanied by the cawing of a Rook, Janna did not linger.
She briskly returned to her dormitory to begin her daily, unshakable meditation routine.
November 15th, weather: overcast.
On the day of the exam, perhaps due to the heavy resentment from the apprentices in Turin’s wizard district, the magical particles in the air were extremely unstable, even to the point of affecting the weather.
"Tick-tock—tick-tock—"
At that moment, inside the vast classroom, Janna put down her pen as she easily completed the fourth set of written cultural exams, glancing at the mechanical clock that showed more than half the exam time had passed.
"Elvish Language, Ancient Magic History, Introductory Biology, Introductory Herbology—hmm, should be no problem."
The exam ran from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., covering four subjects, with only one hour allocated for each subject.
Each exam was scored out of 150 points, with a large number of questions, two-thirds objective and one-third subjective.
It was a rigorous test of the examinee’s mastery and understanding of the material.
It was not easy to score well.
Fortunately, having been forged through over a decade of exam-driven education in her previous life, Janna found these papers a breeze. Before 10:30, she had already completed all the exams and entered her resting phase.
"Not allowing early departures from the exam room—though it’s a measure against cheating, it’s rather inhumane."
"Caw—One hour remaining until the end of the exam. All examinees, please continue answering."
As Janna silently grumbled in her heart, the Rook emissary acting as the proctor stood on the podium, sharply watching over all the apprentices with piercing eyes.
The rules in White Coral Academy’s examination rooms were extremely strict. In addition to having four Rooks overseeing each exam room,
every apprentice was subjected to a body search by a Rook before entering.
Any items related to the supernatural were strictly forbidden in the exam room. Even Janna’s usual Raccoon Cat Robe was not allowed.
So, Janna had to wear the standard-issued Wizard Robe from the academy to take the written exams today—
