Chapter 138: Flying Spell
Due to David Berg’s sudden personal matter, Janna and the other actors unexpectedly received an additional day of paid leave, which was a rare stroke of good fortune for Janna.
After turning down Liji Silks’s enthusiastic invitation to go shopping together, Janna, who treasured every minute and second, immediately returned to the academy, stepped into the library, and began a long-overdue self-study session.
Thanks to the presence of the “Daily Quest System,” Janna's time needed for general promotion had been significantly reduced.
Additionally, due to the accumulation of Skill EXP, Janna was able to reduce a large amount of time previously required for practicing witchcraft.
However, the time saved was by no means an excuse for rest or play. While she still had some money on hand, Janna went straight to the library, intending to take full advantage of White Coral Academy’s extensive book collection to deepen her foundational knowledge.
At the same time, in order to perform well in the White Tower trial in Dordogne, Janna had to proactively leverage all the resources currently available to her, to narrow the gap between herself and those top-tier genius apprentices who had the backing of Wizard Families since birth.
To speak of the world from the bottom of a well is to be shortsighted.
To put it bluntly, Janna’s journey was not limited to places like Turin or even Dordogne.
After all, aside from Dordogne, Phoenix City, Atlantis, and Florence—these Second Tier Wizard gathering grounds in the Western Continent—the Eastern Continent also had three equally top-tier Second Tier Wizard gathering places: Fallen Star City, Nashidor, and the Land of Sleeping Dragons.
Not to mention, above these seven Second Tier Wizard gathering places, there existed a First Tier Wizard gathering ground, known as the sacred land of all witches—Sky City.
Therefore, in order to climb to the pinnacle of the world, Janna had to give one hundred percent within her limited time. Only then could she live up to the “System,” this fortuitous external aid.
The time spent studying always passed quickly.
During the following days, she attended classes during the day, studied at night, worked on weekends, and used fragmented time to complete various daily quests.
As time rapidly progressed, the academic pace within White Coral Academy also became increasingly intense.
Even the Defense Against Dark Magic class had increased from once a week to twice a week.
The newly added class session was purely to encourage brawling among apprentices.
It was euphemistically named: to compensate for the lack of real combat among White Wizard Apprentices.
At the same time, the Basic Spellcasting class was also becoming increasingly demanding. So far, Janna had successively learned two newly added witchcraft spells: 【Mental Perception】 and 【Shrink Spell】.
Additionally, Mary Margaret specifically took several class sessions to conduct pop quizzes on previously taught spells such as 【Wizard’s Hand】 and 【Magic Reading】, making life extremely difficult for the apprentices.
Fortunately, 《Ancient Magic History》, 《Elvish Language》, 《Introductory Herbology》, and 《Introductory Biology》—these liberal arts subjects—announced their conclusion in the second-to-last month before finals, leaving students to review on their own in preparation for the written exams.
This did relieve a significant portion of their academic pressure, and at the same time, increased Janna’s extra income through her “class note rental” service.
Under such high pressure, the results were evident.
Up to now, aside from Janna, there were also a few talented apprentices who had advanced to Second Tier Wizard Apprentice before the end of the term.
Among them were her acquaintances Vivian Rose, Bell Moonshadow, and Andre Green—who, like the original Janna, was a commoner apprentice.
“The principle of the 【Flying Spell】 is to summon any object you desire through the power of your will—of course, the object summoned via the 【Flying Spell】 must meet certain prerequisites. The most important condition is that the object must be mystically recognized as your own. Otherwise, the spell will fail.”
At this moment, in the public classroom on the fifth floor of the Magic Tower, Janna sat in the first row, attentively listening to Mary Margaret’s explanation of the spell.
Nicknamed the Lazy Person’s Witchcraft, the 【Flying Spell】 was originally content to be taught in the second-year “Intermediate Spellcasting” course. However, since many first-years had already broken through to Second Tier Wizard Apprentice, Mary Margaret decided to hold a special session to give them a free lecture from the “Intermediate Spellcasting” curriculum.
The urgency in teaching this spell was due to its usefulness in the upcoming “Tri-School Joint Examination,” where apprentices were allowed to bring wands and certain student-level equipment. Although equipment strength was restricted, since weapons were allowed, there was always the risk of dropping or losing them during battle.
If one could master the 【Flying Spell】, such situations could be minimized. In this regard, Professor Mary Margaret was undeniably considerate of her students.
“All right, I’ve already taught you the casting principles, incantation, and gestures. Whether you can learn it or not—
is up to you.”
“Of course, since this spell is considered outside the syllabus, it will not appear on the final exam—except for those who have already advanced to Second Tier Wizard Apprentice.”
As Mary Margaret's sharp gaze swept over them, Janna’s expression remained calm, as if everything the professor said was entirely reasonable.
“Alright, begin practicing.”
A typical three-hour Basic Spellcasting class usually left apprentices with an hour or an hour and a half for practice. During this time, if anyone had questions about the spell, they could consult Mary Margaret.
Of course, if the question was particularly basic, Mary Margaret wouldn’t just refuse to answer—it would also cost the student some classroom Academic Credits.
As a result, most apprentices would rather pay Janna privately for answers than risk offending the temperamental full witch.
“I’ve already learned this spell before. It’s pretty difficult.”
“Is that so?”
Just as she was preparing to begin, Janna paused slightly upon hearing Bell Moonshadow’s words beside her, then continued preparing to cast the spell.
“Yeah—but for you, it probably won’t be a problem—”
“Accio—”
Before Bell Moonshadow finished speaking, Janna swiftly recited the monosyllabic incantation composed entirely of Elvish characters.
In an instant, the Verdant Wand that had been resting on her desk flew straight into her hand.
“Not bad. It’s actually a bit more difficult than I expected.”
Seeing Janna’s casual execution, even though she had mentally prepared herself, Bell Moonshadow’s expression stiffened slightly.
It took her a moment to recover before she nodded coolly.
“Indeed.”
