Tang Ming didn't hide this: "The Reconnaissance Soldiers used a submarine and were discovered after ascending the mountain. Their defenses were well prepared and ruthlessly effective. They'd set traps with steel spikes at all possible docking sites. Our forces were divided into three teams; two fell into the traps, startling the enemy, and the third team was quickly found. Only two returned, and they did so under the life-cover of their comrades."

Lu Ruisheng looked at the blueprint: "If this is all there is on the blueprint, then it indeed isn't of much use."

Tang Ming sighed, "So now we need to prepare our next move."

He had originally hoped that Gu Pan and the others were safe for the time being, waiting during the operational hours of the library and the science museum to test them.

But he hadn't expected the situation to become so critical. Now he couldn't think of a better strategy, so he wanted to hear their opinions or suggestions, as they had been out there so long, and might have some unexpected ideas. He liked to gather wise opinions and listen to various ideas, and if all else failed, then they would launch a full assault.

Gu Pan thought for a moment, exchanged a look with Lu Ruisheng, then turned to Tang Ming: "If not, then the two of us will go."

"Just the two of you?" Tang Ming was surprised they would suggest this outright, his tone carrying a mix of doubt and uncertainty.

Gu Pan was sure: "Just us two, we have our methods, but we need the base's submarine."

Tang Ming hesitated for a moment: "Xiao Lu has only one son, I heard he was just recognized at No.7 Base, and this mission is almost suicidal, this needs to be discussed with him."

Xiao Lu? Gu Pan took a moment to realize he meant Lu Jianguo, they knew him as a senior, but in Tang Ming's presence, it was indeed Xiao Lu.

Lu Ruisheng said, "My dad will agree."

Tang Ming smiled, "You know your dad, but still, discuss it with him."

In his heart, he felt the probability of their return was minuscule.

Lu Ruisheng nodded, "Okay, I'll discuss it with my dad." Although he was confident in his judgement, he still felt it was important to inform Lu Jianguo to respect him and to ease his worry.

Tang Ming looked at the two of them and slowly began, "Allowing you to participate in the operation was to let you follow the main force so that it's not too dangerous, and we could also assess your abilities. I never expected your first mission to be this perilous."

Gu Pan listened to her husband's words, looked at his expression, and loved this man even more. He stood there as if haloed by light.

Tang Ming smiled and nodded, "Good, then I'll have someone call your dad."

Lu Ruisheng acknowledged the command.

Tang Ming called someone in, instructing him to fetch Lu Jianguo, who quickly left to do so.

Then Tang Ming began to share some memories about him and Old Master Lu, who were in the same unit in the past. Old Master Lu was his superior but treated him exceptionally well. Although not blood brothers, they were as close as brothers and had gone through life-and-death situations together.

Later, Old Master Lu charged alone into enemy lines to cover for them, got shot twice, and almost died.

Due to the severe injuries and resulting complications, he couldn't work as hard anymore, thus he didn't rise further in rank, otherwise, Old Master Lu would have likely held the highest position in Huaxia.

Listening to this made Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng feel mixed emotions; Old Master Lu truly was a great soldier and a good leader, but not a good father or husband.

During the conversation, Lu Jianguo arrived, and Tang Ming stopped his story.

After greetings were exchanged, and everyone was seated, Tang Ming relayed the couple's intention to Lu Jianguo: "Xiao Lu, the kids want to scout the temporary Japanese bases, I wanted to consult you."

Lu Jianguo wasn't surprised; knowing the couple were not ordinary people, yet as a father, his selfish side wished to keep his children away from even a hint of danger.

He was silent for a moment before speaking: "Is there any other plan?"

Gu Pan saw Lu Jianguo's hesitation, knowing that no plan would be better than her and Lu Ruisheng going themselves.

So she assured, "Dad, I promise you, we will come back alive, definitely."

Lu Jianguo sighed deeply, "In such matters, there is no certainty. Once inside, it's out of your control. Moreover, Reconnaissance Soldiers just visited recently; their defenses are at their tightest. I disagree with the idea, even if I went myself, I wouldn't let you go."

At this, Lu Ruisheng's heart was truly happy, his father really cared for him.

He addressed Lu Jianguo, "Dad, we really have our own methods, and we will definitely come back."

Due to the vast implications of Space, he was the Base Commander, and involving him might influence many future decisions.

Lu Jianguo took a deep breath, "But nothing is a hundred percent guaranteed, I'm just not reassured."

"But I am, I assure you, we'll be completely safe, without any danger," Gu Pan was firm.

Lu Jianguo, seeing the firm look in Gu Pan's eyes, finally agreed, "Then let's go out and discuss the strategy."

Gu Pan nodded and went out with Lu Jianguo.

Seeing Lu Jianguo's expression, Tang Ming guessed the outcome.

Lu Jianguo spoke to Tang Ming: "Base Commander, let's discuss their scouting plan."

Tang Ming nodded: "Sit and talk."

After sitting, Gu Pan started, "I think it's best to have the troops embark with us, then have them lie in ambush behind the nearby mountains. If we successfully obtain the Defense Map and convey the message to them, they can launch a direct assault, catching the enemy off guard, which might make it easier."

Tang Ming thought for a moment, "That's good, having our own people follow. If you need to retreat, they can draw fire from a distance. If you succeed, we can take them down in one fell swoop."

After speaking, he looked at Lu Jianguo: "What do you think?"
