Slaves of Blood

Chapter 19: Back Door

-Every star in the sky has light, the sun has light. The moon, which until several years ago I thought that the light it had was a reflection of the sun. Today I have confirmed that this was wrong. The Moon has its own light, the Vampire Goddess is a real God. Galileo Galiley's Vampire's Diary - Year 1790

In the morning, the fog thickened, making it difficult to see but preventing the sunlight from even touching the ground. It is the perfect environment for these beings of the night to do the same things as their enemies.

Valery watched as the darkness gradually became clearer, even with her night vision she could tell the difference between day and night. She stretched her hand out the window, feeling the little warmth created by the sunlight on her skin.

It was not like the cold moonlight, the feeling of moonlight is cold and soothing. While the sunlight is warm and exciting. They are totally opposite beings, but so close.

Valery got ready, to go for tea, tea for vampires, literally drinking hot blood. Like everything else, there are also other types to drink this tea.

Some combine the blood with herbs to give them a different smell and taste. Of course it would no longer be pure blood, partially removing its nutrition.

Valery, put on her best uniform for the academy. She was undecided whether to wear a simple dress or a uniform. In the end she decided on the uniform.

Valery said goodbye to Victor and walked to Stelle's residence. Stelle's residence is two floors away from hers. She went upstairs and on the second floor she met Katerin who was waiting for her.

"What are you thinking?" Katerin had an annoyed expression.

"You know what I'm doing, it's you who has another option. You could tell Antoni to take you under his wing just like Marta did with Harry."

"Antoni and I don't have a close relationship or similar, I can't ask him to do that," Katerin said with annoyance.

"Then why are you following me?"

"Because you are my friend, what other reason do I have" Katerin folded her arms, she has shown concern before, needless to say she is on Valery's side.

"Then... trust me, because it's the only thing we can have between the two of us."

Katerin's eyes twitched at her friend's words, she clenched her fists in frustration. The friends were separated, just a few days ago they were close but now they were separated.

The decions and the current state of affairs made that friendship become fragile.

Were they still friends?

Yes, but now they each have responsibilities. They have people to take care of and depend on their decisions. Now they have to make the best decisions, but first of all there are choices and conditions.

Those same conditions do not allow Katerin to ask Antoni for help.

Valery is close enough to Katerin to have her in front of her.

"Will you stay at my side?"

"Yes, the same as when we were children."

"Give me steel and I'll build a tower."

"Let me forge the steel for you to build the tower."

x-x-x-x

In front of them there was still a wooden door, which had stood the test of time like many other doors in the other rooms. But this one was different, somehow it looked more alive, as if the wood was still a living thing.

That is the characteristic of the Grendwoods, a family whose magic is all about nature. As a family of viscounts they have a more powerful magic than the Barons.

And their dwelling alone shows that difference, in their magic.

The viscount can create with his magic, whatever his element is related to. His touch also affects the controlled element.

Seeing the door so full of life, they could not help but realize how different they were. They may have been powerful, but a viscount is already a big difference between them.

"How did the humans last so long fighting the war?" murmured Katerin.

"You had to get as many humans alive as possible. That's why the vampires who participated the most were the barons and viscounts."

"Then why in Italy did the kings attack?"

"That... I don't know either".

Today on the European continent, the Italian country has disappeared. All that remains is a land full of golden fragments and great flames like mountains.

Valery approached the door, it smelled of fresh forest. He knocked twice on the door, after a few minutes footsteps were heard.

The door opened, revealing Stelle in an elegant and luxurious dress.

"You've arrived!" She said with a big smile, forgetting her manners she grabbed Valery and Katerin by their arms and pulled them into her room.

"AH!" they both gasped, not expecting Stelle, their friend, to act so happy.

Valery and Katerin adjusted their clothes and hair, with an uncomfortable look, their friend didn't seem to act as they expected.

Stelle was back and forth with handmade snacks.

(I think it's more or less clear, but I prefer to clarify it in the best way. Vampires eat blood. End, they have other foods based on blood, all thanks to the humans who became vampires and could not get used to feed on blood only. From there came a lot of things, besides the vampires themselves had some foods. Like the old blood which is like alchol. The warm blood which is like a tea. The curdled blood that is like a gummy or jelly).

In one tray there is blood curdled like jelly, around the jelly there is powdered sugar, other snacks did not have powdered sugar.

"What are you doing there? Sit down," asked Happy Stelle, sitting down at the table. There was a steaming pot of tea on the table.

"We have a lot to talk about, let's eat first."

Valery and Katerin relaxed a little, but not much. Her friend acted like when they were kids, but her words were clear, they wouldn't talk about the same things they did when they were kids, they wouldn't talk about their new toys or the boy they liked.

They wouldn't talk about grown-up things, those boring things they always talked about that they would never do.

Sitting at the table once were three smiling girls who, when they met, acted shy. Today there are three noble vampires, with responsibilities.

All three poured themselves a cup of tea and none of them drank until the one who invited them drank first.

Stelle took a soft, slow sip, she looked at them with calm, friendly eyes as she saw that none of them would begin to eat. Her eyes turned cold and serious.

"Let's get started then."

"As you know my father is alive, even though I don't have much information I only know that we have to bring as many barons as possible to my side. Of course you are my priority, you are my friends after all" he said this with a kinder tone but his serious expression took away the tenderness of the moment.

"I'm not sure if my father has ever given allegiance to an earl, nor do I know if we have any other allies. So no the important thing would be to get close allies, from nobles to commoners."

"For now I think we have to approach those of the other classes, but we have to be careful... it would be best to choose barons who are in our vicinity."

"So we'll recruit commoners and barons, meanwhile you?" asked Katerin.

"Yes exactly, as you know. Among the nobles even among those of our own rank there is also a classification."

"Yes, there is no need to say much. We'll look for the most relvant and discard those who should already have an affiliation" said Valery.

"Regarding the commoners, the best thing to do would be to bring out the most prominent and closest ones" Katerin commented, while rubbing her chin.

"So, everyone knows their roles. The best thing would be for you to take advantage of these hours to get allies or at least learn more about the situation. Not everyone must believe they are on my side. They may also believe that we are still in negotiations."

"That's something we need to talk about too" interrupted Katerin.

"Yes, you were very quick when we haven't even talked about what's important," Valery pronounced.

"You think I will treat you badly? Please trust me, I will not allow you to be treated badly".
