Chapter 199 Rapid Rescue
Inside the stone house's living room.
After Kane Squad clarified the mission objectives they needed this time, they went to the location Sakrem had pointed out before to analyze which tasks could help them better achieve their goals.
It wasn't just Kane and his team there; there were also many mercenaries with the same identity selecting tasks here.
In front of them was a massive bulletin board, densely covered with pinned tasks.
In analyzing which tasks would be beneficial to them, aside from Longbei and Lilulu, the other three members participated as well.
After all, these tasks were indeed a bit challenging for the two of them.
In the end, each of the three took a sheet, then gathered to discuss which task to prioritize, enabling them to support their objective.
The three tasks were: Clearing out demons within the first line of defense and assisting the remaining civilians and soldiers inside.
Patrolling the second line of defense to find demons infiltrating inside, as already, two villages had been destroyed by such infiltrating demons.
The last task was to ensure the entire line of defense's supply and evacuation routes, with information suggesting demons might target these.
They barely discussed it before deciding to undertake the first task, rescuing the remaining forces within the first line of defense.
The first task came with a map, which marked the villages, towns, and residential areas within the first line of defense,
as well as those dwelling places that hadn't been rescued yet, all marked approximately on the map.
They handed this map directly to Yoyo, letting it scan into its system for route planning, allowing them to rescue these people at the fastest speed.
Sakrem also prepared warhorses for Kane and his team, letting them choose from the stables.
But only Kane and Meizike had the conditions to ride warhorses in their team; Longbei's physique couldn't handle a warhorse, a bump could throw him off.
For him, it was no less than torture; as he put it, running on foot was preferable to riding.
And Kreya didn't need it at all; compared to Kane and the others, her physical strength was far superior, though she didn't show it often.
She only needed to temporarily switch her armor to a more mobile outfit, with long-distance travel having no impact on her.
In the end, Longbei and Lilulu rode Cotton Candy, while Kane and Meizike rode warhorses.
However, Kane and Meizike looked at the warhorses in front of them and felt troubled; they had never ridden such mounts before.
They had learned how to ride warhorses, but never actually ridden them, so they could only follow the book's instructions step by step.
As soon as they arrived in the wilderness outside the city, the warhorses got out of control and started running wild.
"Kreya, how do you control this thing?"
Kane had never ridden a warhorse, only learning from books, though his strong body control allowed him to follow the horse's movements and relax his body, avoiding suffering.
But he didn't really know how to control the horse's direction.
However, Meizike held the reins, controlling the horse with skill.
Regarding Kane's question, Kreya rolled her eyes: "Do you think I'm someone who rides mounts?"
"Kane is really dumb," Lilulu couldn't stand it from above, so she flew down.
She hugged the horse's head, soothing it: "Little horse, be good, listen to the big brother on your back."
Just like that, the horse calmed down instantly, starting to turn and run with Kane's movements.
"You're really something, Lilulu."
"Hmph, of course,"
Lilulu stood with her hands on her hips, looking very pleased with herself.
Then Yoyo, with a propeller on its head, flew into the air, beginning to guide Kane and the others.
Based on the breakthrough time of the defense line, the various legions' rescue times and routes, and the information on the map, Yoyo roughly estimated where there might still be lives waiting for rescue.
Along the way, they could see numerous teams heading towards the second line of defense.
Each of these teams was almost uniformly wounded, with some consisting only of civilians and a few scattered soldiers.
Along the road, there were many remnants of corpses and broken weapons and damaged armor, which ideally should be collected and reforged, but their scattered state showed these teams were mostly fleeing for their lives.
Since Kane was not on Cotton Candy now, the reconnaissance task was handed over to Meizike, who placed an Eye of Magic Power on Cotton Candy's head, also using Eagle Eye to scout the surroundings.
"There's a team up ahead being stopped by monsters, with two demons; we need to hurry, or else they won't hold on."
Meizike swiftly reported the distant situation to his teammates.
Everyone accelerated, rushing in the direction Meizike pointed out, Kreya's light outfit quickly switching to golden armor.
After just a few steps, they could see the scene of the distant team.
The number of civilians behind that team was nearly over 1,000, but there might be less than 100 soldiers, with the task of opposing the demons falling to a dozen knights in heavy armor.
Among them, one figure in dark grey heavy armor, riding an armored warhorse, wielded a lance to independently block a demon.
The two demons were not the same, one being the kind Kane and his team had previously killed, belonging to the War Demon type.
The other, battling the grey armored figure alone, had no wings, no marked demon horns, a single-eyed head, and four arms resembling giant hammers.
This was a Heavy Hammer Demon, clumsy but with immense attack power, each strike of its four hammer-like arms causing the earth to tremble.
A few bullets exuding Holy Light directly pierced through the War Demon's body, with one explosion point appearing at its leg, causing it to kneel on the ground.
The knights beside him wouldn't miss this opportunity, raising their swords and lances to stab into the demon's body, molten lava-like blood flowing from it.
The demon merely roared and got up again, grabbing its war axe and swinging it in a circle, quickly forcing the knights back.
However, three more bullets exuding Holy Light hit its head directly, causing the demon's ugly head to explode and fall to the ground, turning into a pile of ashes.
Longbei jumped off Cotton Candy, transforming mid-air into a form over five meters tall, slamming into the Heavy Hammer Demon.
Rugged, robust arms directly knocked the demon to the ground, followed by a ghostly white figure rushing over, golden Light Blade slicing into the demon's neck.
The single-eyed head was directly chopped off.
