Chapter 179: Carrying them.
The spectacle that Felix displayed using his new skill Bladefall stunned everyone around him.
His friends and allies, and even the Bladefiends were brought to a pause when the attack caused the sheer might and destruction that none of them were capable of doing.
'It's not over yet!'
Felix narrowed his eyes and turned to look at another corner of the horde before he grinned again.
'BLADEFALL!!'
He aimed his sword at the other corner, and the same scene unfolded as countless sword projections appeared and rained down on the Bladefiends.
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The earth below them shook slightly when the storm of swords descended like rain on the monsters, making their corpses look like butchered bodies as the projections turned into light after striking them.
"W-What the hell is happening?!", Roven exclaimed in confusion and fear.
Another dozen of Bladefiends fell to their deaths, including wounding many that rendered them immobile.
The humans found the situation both amazing and terrifying, as they were still unaware of who was causing those sword attacks.
"Is... Is there a Rank 4 nearby?", Selena asked as her skin paled.
The might of the attack they saw before them was something even a Rank 3 wouldn't be able to do.
The highest form of power a Rank 3 fighter could do was channel their aura in their battle technique and perform their strengthened attacks from their weapon.
So unless they awakened to manifest their aura to perform external projections of their battle techniques, no Rank 3 could ever unleash such devastation.
"Shit! That has got to be a Rank 4, but who can it be?!", Eric shouted out loud what everyone wanted to know.
"Sir Dante and Sir Rhodes are at the base, which they wouldn't leave without a reason. So it can't be them...", Roven stated.
"You're right. But then that would mean....", Selena took a hard gulp.
Felix heard them speaking and realised they didn't know it was him who caused those attacks.
'An attack from a Rank 4? How can I fucking explain that?!', his mind ached just imagining the situation when he was going to get interrogated for showing off his skills.
'Oh well, it is what it is I guess....'
Felix just shrugged and turned towards the others who were all waiting for something to happen.
"Guys, what are you all waiting for? It's our chance! Take down all those Bladefiends!"
His shout brought them out of their stupor, turning their attention back to the monsters around them who were similarly too terrified to even move from their spots.
"Felix's right! Kill the rest of the monsters!", Roven said as everyone's blood pumped to get revenge on their enemies.
"Kill them!!"
The humans launched their attacks on the bewildered mob of monsters, taking them down and pushing them away from their close circle.
The Bladefiends couldn't handle the force of the humans anymore, so some tried to run away towards the other end of the tunnel, before they got caught up in the Rank 3s' battle and died anyway.
A few minutes later, the situation calmed down.
Now, only a few surviving Bladefiends remained, who were being put out of their misery by Morris' group members who were bent on delivering their vengeance on the monsters that killed their group members.
The battle between the Rank 3s also concluded by the time the entire horde was killed by the joint efforts of everyone.
Keliot was holding Morris by the shoulder to move as Nicole and Paul were keeping an eye on their surroundings for any other monsters.
Felix, Steve, Eric, Roven, Selena and the others gathered around their fallen comrades, whose bodies had started to grow cold and had turned completely pale.
Four of them had died, two each from either of the guilds, with their teammates standing right beside them in sadness and loss.
They stood in silence, while Keliot and the other three joined them from behind.
"It's... It's all my fault...", Morris mumbled with a gloomy expression, his voice breaking from exhaustion and frustration. "If only.... I had led the group... more... more... carefully...."
Nobody said a word, keeping their silence and not blaming him as death was a factor they had all already come to terms with when they joined the guild's war.
Keliot placed a hand on Morris's shoulder to comfort him, before looking at others and giving them orders despite the heavy atmosphere of the crowd.
"We can't stay here any longer, guys. We'll have to carry the bodies back to the base. The guild will decide what to do with them. To bury them here in the dungeon, or bring them back to the city."
His words tugged at their hearts, especially the teammates of the dead ones, who didn't want them to be buried in this dark and lonely dungeon which they couldn't even visit if they wanted.
Everyone got busy with work, finding some extra clothes from their bodies to use to carry the dead bodies easily back to the base.
Morris personally lifted the first body over his shoulder, while two teammates held the other side of the body.
The other three bodies were carried by the people too, despite all of them being injured and wounded to the core themselves.
The group then started making their way back, their figures appearing lethargic and dull as nobody talked.
The members of the traitor group became the lookouts at the front and the back, providing the members of the two guilds some time for themselves.
'I can't believe those two died....', Felix thought as he recalled seeing the two dead members of his guild back at the dining hall sometimes.
He didn't interact much with them, maybe almost null, but he knew they were someone he could count on as members of the same guild.
And now, they weren't there anymore.
Felix looked at the men who were carrying the corpses of their dead teammates, and he somehow put himself in their position.
The people you had spent the best moments with and had kept each other's backs in every battle, while also laughing at silly jokes and fighting over food.
But now, it was no longer the same as their bodies that were once warm and familiar had turned cold and unmoving, their healthy and strong figure had now become weak and injured, with their corpses being carried by their teammates.
That felt agonising and nauseating.
Felix gripped his fists as he looked at the faces of the team members who were carrying the dead.
Their faces were set in hard and sombre, resolved masks. Felix could only guess they had long since made peace with the grim reality of their profession, anticipating loss long before the guild wars began.
'I... I wouldn't be so calm if it were....', Felix closed his eyes, stopping himself from even thinking about anything happening to his teammates.
Back on earth, he didn't go to any funerals or visit many sick people. He didn't even come across the death of someone he knew, so this could be said to be the first time he was going through this feeling.
A hand suddenly patted his shoulder, making Felix turn to the side.
"Hey, are you okay?", Steve asked with a slight frown. "Your face doesn't look good."
Felix blinked his eyes and then took a deep cold breath, his chest rising and falling.
"I'm... I'm fine. It's just a bit of a headache actually..."
The toll from using so many of those skills one after the other, including the feeling from the aftermath of the battle truly gave him a slight pain in the side of his brain.
"Oh... Same here then I guess...", Steve muttered as he looked forward at the dead bodies. "Those two were good guys you know..."
"You knew them?", Felix asked quietly as he remembered that Steve was slightly famous for the wrong reasons in their guild.
"Yeah... Fred and Larry, I talked a few times with them.", Steve nodded as he bit his lips.
"Hmm..."
Felix just nodded, not knowing if he should say something to comfort Steve or not. He had never been in such a situations before, so he didn't know how to act.
"Were you thinking of our team being in their position? Having to carry our dead teammate and bury them?", Steve suddenly asked as he frowned.
"I...", Felix paused, his words stuck at his throat as he widened his eyes.
"Snap out of it, Felix! Look here!", slapping the boy's back, Steve stared at him directly in the eyes.
"You're strong, Felix. You're fucking strong for a Rank 1. Hell, I even doubt you're still a Rank 1 nowadays...", he chuckled and said seriously.
"That means you have what it takes to survive. So stop thinking about weird things and get back to your game! The guild wars ain't over yet and our enemies are right around the corner. This means we can't be having negative thoughts which can be the reason for our failure and our deaths!"
"Y-Yeah, you're right...", Felix nodded rapidly, as the colour returned to his face from Steve's motivational speech.
"Thanks, Steve. I guess really needed to hear that."
"Any time, dude. You know I got your back.", Steve grinned, before pointing behind them at their other two teammates who were sneakily overhearing them talk.
"We are a team, Felix. You can always count on us to have your back whenever you need."
Roven and Eric were a bit surprised, but they nodded and gave him sheepish smiles.
Felix smiled looking at his teammates, feeling the warmth of being around them and decided in his mind.
'I'll never let anything happen to them....'
