Chapter 991: 988: Betrayed Me
The guard attempted to pierce Corey with his sword, but Corey calmly took a step to the side and dodged the blade by a hair's breath.
He stared into the guard's eyes, and then he punched the guard right in the face. As his fist was about to slam into the guard's face, his hand flashed with black tribulation lightning, causing the guard's eyes to widen in fear.
He didn't hold back a single bit.
The helmet shattered into pieces, and the guard flew right into the stairs leading to the throne, shattering it into pieces also.
If one looked closely, one would notice that the guard's unconscious bleeding body was directly beneath the queen's throne, and if Corey had just aimed a little bit higher, the guard would have slammed into Queen Nerith.
"At least I was able to release some of my pent up frustration and anger with that." Corey said out loud while rotating his hand with a slight smile.
He shifted his gaze to the two other guards that were close to Pamel, Kiefer, Selene, and Willow. When he saw their swords on the floor, and the guards themselves on their knees with chains of lightning binding them, he nodded slightly.
"I knew I could trust you to react on time and save them."
Corey smiled at Pamela, who scoffed at his words.
"You're like a barbarian. You could have stopped him without doing that much damage. Who knows if he's still alive?"
Pamela gestured at the unconscious bleeding guard at the feet of Queen Nerith's throne.
"Don't worry. He's not dead." Corey gave a dismissive wave. "Or at least he shouldn't be. I certainly don't have the power to kill a Tier 6 in just one punch."
Pamela rolled her eyes, and Corey gave a light smile before turning and facing Queen Nerith and her children.
When he did, he saw their shaken expressions as they stared at the guard who was clearly on the verge of death as he laid in his pool of blood and rubbles of the palace.
Queen Nerith shifted her gaze from the guard to Corey, and she had an extremely deep frown on her face as she looked at him.
Although she already knew that Corey had the capability to battle Tier 6s, seeing it happening firsthand was a whole different case.
What truly shook her was the ease at which Corey used to defeat the palace guard.
Palace guards were amongst the strongest elves in the city and their race because they usually had extremely high talents, and their proficiency in combat was very high.
If all the palace guards came together against an Immortal, they could make the Immortal utilize more energy than he or she or it was meant to.
The guards would still lose at the end of the day, but the crux of the matter is that palace guards were powerful and talented individuals.
And for Corey, who was just a Tier 3 to defeat one of the palace guards with just a punch, it was absurd to her, and to even her children.
Queen Nerith, Syrelle, Orynthia, and Thalos all thought that for Corey to defeat a Tier 6, it would be a long and gruelling battle where his life would be hanging on the balance.
Not a battle where Corey could overpower a Tier 6 like it was a walk in the park.
What sort of power was this?
What sort of potential was this?
What sort of monster was standing before then?
The thoughts and expressions of Queen Nerith and her children could be seen right on their faces, and even Jeremy and his companions still found it surreal seeing both Corey and Pamela defeating Tier 6s like they were kids.
"Your Majesty. Are you going to interrogate this man? Or are you going to run a deeper search on your palace? And your city if possible?" Corey asked with raised brows, and Queen Nerith looked at the unconscious guard for a moment.
"Bring him to me, Thalos." She said, and then she looked at Corey. "Bring him to me while I go through our home for anymore... invaders."
Corey scoffed with a smile. "About time."
Queen Nerith closed her eyes, and then Corey, Pamela, and the others with high perceptions felt something pervasive sweep over their bodies. Some shuddered at this feeling, but the others merely remained still.
Some seconds later, Queen Nerith opened her eyes with an extremely grave expression, and then she looked at Corey.
Corey gave a light smile. "Let me guess, I was right as usual?"
Queen Nerith's lips twitched, and Corey scoffed with the same smile.
"I'd love to tell you I told you so, but unfortunately, we don't have time for that."
Corey shook his head, and then he approached the two guards with Pamela.
"What are you doing?"
Queen Nerith asked, and Corey stopped and looked at her.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm going to question them since you've already taken that guard over there with a pretty deformed face." Corey gestured at the guard that had been placed on the floor in front of the queen by Thalos.z
"You don't need to do that." Queen Nerith said.
"And why's that?" Corey raised a brow.
"Because the assassins along with several other people are coming to this throne room."
Corey was taken aback, and he blinked in surprise. He turned and looked at the door, and then he looked back at the queen.
'Well, that's disturbing. I didn't even sense them, and I can't even hear any sign of movement behind the doors. Either they're extremely skilled assassins, or they're using something to completely hide their presence.'
'How strange.'
"And why didn't you say anything since?"
"Because I'm baffled and hurt about something."
Corey frowned in confusion. "And what's that?"
Queen Nerith looked at Corey for a moment, and then she closed her eyes while clenching her fists.
"Thalos... Why have you betrayed me?"
