Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 988: 985: Worst Case Scenarios

After telling Jeremy to tell him everything he had experienced and knew in the two hundred and eighty two times he had died, Corey took note of a few things.

According to Jeremy, he believed that the number of assassins in the palace was just one person. That is, until the previous today where three assassins appeared.

Jeremy told him that it took a considerably long time for him to be able to react to the attack of the assassin that always occurred in front of Corey's door.

The assassin usually attacked him when he was not expecting it. Even when he sensed the attack of the assassin beforehand, the power of the assassin was usually too much for him to handle, and he always ended dying, if not at the first clash, but the second.

There were even times when the assassin did not attack him from behind, but from above and below.

If not for his nigh-countless experiences with death and also the fact that he had being in worse situations than this, he would have been extremely frustrated.

As Jeremy told him all these things, he also told Corey that he had been planning on finding a way to ensure that everybody remained together and did not separate since they were obviously weaker apart than together.

Aside from that, he also knew that he could not defeat the assassin that wanted to kill him, and also save his comrades along with Kiefer, Selene, and Willow.

So, he wanted to find a way for all of them to not separate at all in the throne room.

Another thing that Corey realized from speaking with Jeremy was that he never saw Pamela after the throne room in any of the todays he lived.

Corey also knew that Pamela was not in the dining room where the others had died, and he had not sensed anything odd from the room Pamela resided.

Because he had been so concentrated on Jeremy's countenance in the throne room and the attempts of his Stars of Consciousness and Cosmic Soul to restore back his memories, he had not even bothered to look at Pamela and see if she knew if something was off.

One thing he knew was that Pamela was the most talented individual he had ever seen, and if there was any non-immortal that was capable of sensing this oddity, he would bet his money on her.

But he had not even bothered observing her, and he had no idea what happened during the two hundred and eighty two todays Jeremy had lived.

Another thing that Corey noticed was that the enemy that always killed Jeremy and ended up gravely injuring him always used a blood-red spear.

At first, he had even thought that the spear was the reason for the time loop. Because anytime he held the spear after he was stabbed, time always stopped and then rewinds itself.

Recalling the power behind the spear made Corey to frown because he realized that no matter how many times he attempted to block the spear, he failed.

There were times where he was caught off guard, and there were times where he actually sensed the attack beforehand and tried to either block or dodge the spear, but it always pierced him.

'The power behind the spear and the spear itself was strange. It is not as powerful as the attack of a Tier 7, and it seems to be in the limit of a Tier 6 attack. But... it's like it has the ability to ignore whatever defense one has.'

Corey frowned deeply, and then he looked at Jeremy who had been silent and waiting for him to finish his train of thoughts.

"Who do you think the assassins are?"

Jeremy shook his head. "At first I thought it was a member of the Freedom Fighters since the're most likely to have more knowledge about this underground city of the Silver Elves."

"Also, the Freedom Fighters and the royal family are enemies, so it's most likely to be them." Jeremy paused and frowned. "But I then realized that the assassin seemed to be targeting only me. I know the others died in the previous today, but in a way, I still feel like I'm being targeted."

"So? You don't think it's the Freedom Fighters?" Corey asked.

Jeremy shook his head. "I don't think so. I've had no business with them, so it doesn't make sense for them to target me... Maybe they're main target is the royal family, and because we're here, they have no choice but to kill us?"

Corey frowned, and then he shook his head. "I feel like it's a lot deeper than that."

Jeremy tilted his head slightly with a confused and curious expression. "Who do you think it is then?"

Corey looked at the door with narrowed eyes. "I'm not a certain, but one thing definitely bothers me."

"Which is?" Jeremy asked with a slightly frustrated tone. He wanted Corey to just tell him his thoughts, and to stop being mysterious.

"The guards, the security system of the palace, and the royal family themselves."

Jeremy's eyes widened. "The royal family? Do you believe they're the ones responsible for our deaths?"

"Like I said, I'm not certain." Corey shook his head. "First of all, there were no guards at the doors to the dining hall. I remember seeing blood on the doors, but it might not be theirs. However, I noticed that there are way too few guards in the palace."

"Also, I'm surprised their security system failed to detect the assassins. I've sensed it, and I know that less than 1% of the Tier 6s would not be able to bypass their security system... I would even struggle with it."

"As for the royal family, I find it completely suspicious that none of them sensed the presence of the assassins. They're Immortals, and they should have sensed their presence a lot earlier... Unless the assassins have a way of hiding from even the senses of Immortals. Which should make sense since competent assassins would have to account for that."

"However, I still find it suspicious, and I also have a feeling that it's more complicated than that... Hopefully, it's not one of the worst case scenarios I imagined."

"What are your worst case scenarios?" Jeremy asked with raised brows, and Corey looked at him with a solemn expression.

"That the Queen, her children, and the entire Silver Elves want to kill us. Or, there are far more enemies in the palace and the underground city."

Jeremy's gaze became extremely solemn.
