Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 903: 900: Book of Death

The sound of multiple notifications from the Universal System was annoying to Corey, especially with the fact that he was still recovering from his severe injuries.

Although he expected to receive so many notifications, the repeated sound was still very annoying.

Worst of all, he could not deactivate it because the Universal System wanted him to make sure he was aware of the significance of his feats.

'Like as if I don't know how incredible it is for me to kill an Old One... Well... not the true body of an Old One, but an Old One regardless.'

The moment Corey had this thought, he suddenly recalled the fact that he had killed another Old One in the past.

Twice in fact.

'The spirit in the Nightmare Finger. I killed it twice.'

Corey shook his head softly.

'I'm actually curious as to the identity of the Old One that owns the Nightmare Fingers.'

Corey shifted his gaze from the numerous notification screens in front of him to a particular spot on the ground. His Eyes of Omniscience noticed something surprising.

He vanished, and then he appeared at that spot.

He bent, and then he picked up the Nightmare Finger which he made Death swallow.

To his surprise, the Nightmare Finger had not disintegrated even with the explosion from Death, and it was even in one piece.

'I expected to lose the finger, but here it is. In one piece.'

'Does that means that the Old One who is the owner of these fingers is stronger than Death? Or is it because this is a true finger of an Old One which is why it could not be destroyed?'

Corey observed the finger with a slight furrow of his brows.

'I feel like it's the latter. Since it would actually be inconceivable that the explosion of Death who had possessed a body that was much weaker than his true body would be able to destroy the true finger of another Old One.'

He tilted his head slightly as he noticed that the Nightmare Finger was slightly different.

Its appearance was still the same even with his Eyes of Omniscience, but his senses told him that the finger was somewhat different.

'I guess I'll just study it later.'

Corey transferred it into his Tri-Pupil Eyes, and then he finally focused on the translucent screens before him.

He scanned through each of them, and then he tapped several screens that needed his verification.

There were several notifications, and although some of them were quite important. With some stating how he had defied the impossible and killed an avatar of an Old One, and so on forth.

Many of them were remarks from the Universal System, and others spoke about rewards.

He was given the rewards he chose for killing the Thirteenth Calamity of Virendell and Eidolon- Death's Key, Ashen Key of the Hollow Sun, Maledro's Gu Evolution Catalyst, and Dawnsplit Fang.

After accepting all his rewards, they were sent to his system storage space.

He was also given several rewards for killing Death and also for the accomplishments he made throughout the system trial.

He chose his rewards, and they were also sent to his system storage space.

'Only three rewards matter at the moment.'

Corey opened his right hand, and then three keys appeared above his palm, hovering in a circular motion.

One of the rewards he chose was called Archmage Kael's Key, and according to the Universal System, it was the last and final part of a hidden reward which he could obtain sincs he had the two other keys.

As the three keys hovered in a circular motion, their speed suddenly increased, and dark violet and black sparks appeared around them.

Corey's expression changed when a tiny spark burnt a part of his finger, and without hesitation, he quickly moved back.

The three keys continued orbiting around one another, and the sparks around the keys continued to increase in intensity.

At first, they were just tiny sparks, but a minute later, they became arcs of electricity that destroyed everything that was in a hundred meter radius.

Corey frowned when he saw this. The Universal System had not stated that such a thing would occur, and he had also not been able to anticipate such a thing since he knew nothing about the keys.

His Eyes of Omniscience glowed, and his eyes widened slightly in amazement.

'They're fusing.'

Through his Eyes of Omniscience, he was able to see through the net of dark violet and black arcs of lightning that was surrounding the rapidly spinning keys.

He could see the keys fusing with one another in an extremely strange manner, and if he was to describe the scene, he would say it was similar to seeing a glitch in reality.

It was the first time he was seeing such a thing, and it fascinated him.

'I wish I had more time to study the keys.'

A few moments after Corey had this thought, the keys successfully fused with one another, and Corey saw a black wooden key hovering in the air.

The arcs of lightning had stopped, and Corey raised a brow at the appearance of the key.

"Is that all?"

He took a step forward with a raised brow, and just as he took another step forward, the key moved.

Corey traced its path of movement, and he saw that it was heading for the throne of Death.

Just like the Nightmare Finger, Death's throne was still in one piece, and he was not so surprised by that since the throne was made out of a metal he had never seen in his life before.

Even his Eyes of Omniscience could not see through the complexities of the throne, and he had expected that out of everything in the trial space, the throne of Death would remain in one piece.

However, the throne was no longer in the air but on the ground, buried amongst rubbles.

The black wooden key appeared before the rubbles on the throne, and arcs of lightning shot out of it, shattering every single rubble into nothingness.

After shattering every rubble into dust, it hovered before the throne, and then it slowly entered it.

A ripple appeared on the backrest of the throne, and Corey frowned deeply.

He felt an aura emanating from the ripple of the throne, and the aura sent shivers down his skin.

'The throne was a portal to an unknown place, and the three keys were needed to open the portal?'

'But what is coming out? And why am I feeling an immense threat from the portal? The aura it's emanating is very similar to that of Death, but it's also different in a manner I cannot quiet explain.'

'Don't tell me I'm opening up a portal that will allow the true body of Death to come through?'

'The Universal System called this a hidden reward, so it won't fuck with me and set this trap for me right?'

'...'

'Damn it... I might have bloody dug my grave.'

Corey cursed inwardly, and then he stretched his hand.

His Genesis Armament which had been flung far away from him flew into his hand with an eerie accuracy.

"I have a shit ton of lucky so something good is meant to happen right?"

Corey shook his head with a wry smile, and then something began to emerge from the portal.

"A book?" Corey raised his brows in surprise as he stared at the completely black book that was emerging from the portal on the throne.

He increased the output of his Eyes of Omniscience, and he was able to see the book.

It was a completely normal looking black book, but the title on it was one that would make one to think otherwise.

"Book of Death?"

Corey muttered with a frown as he stared at the title of the book which were written like that of a normal book.

Everything about the appearance of the book was normal, and the only abnormal thing about the book was the title.

If not for the fact that Corey could sense an aura that felt unfathomable, mysterious, and extremely dangerous from the book, he might have believed that the book was a normal book.

"Is that the hidden reward the Universal System gave me? What does it do?"

A pondering light flashed in Corey's eyes, and after thinking about several possible scenarios and checking the state of his body, he approached the book.

The portal on the throne had disappeared, and the book was on the seat of the throne.

Corey approached the book with his Genesis Armament in his hand, and a focused and battle ready gaze.

"Hmm?"

When he was about thirty meters from the book, he noticed something odd, and he frowned.

He paused, and his gaze landed on the shadow of the throne.

For just the briefest moment, he saw it ripple, and Corey knew that shadows were not meant to do that.

Without hesitation, he launched a fireball made out of Dreamfire at the shadow.

Just as the fireball was about to touch it, the shadow moved, and Corey's gaze sharpened.

Just as he was about to unleash an attack, a familiar voice called out to him.

"Wait! Wait! Wait!"

Corey raised his brows. "Zeke?"
