Chapter 898: 895: Eyes
"Do you think the Earth has the authority to carry Death?"
The moment Corey heard these words, what he heard next was an extremely loud crack directly beside him.
He looked at the pillar of earth he had created, and his eyes widened when he saw cracks running across the pillar from the tip of the pillar where the crown of death resided on, down to the base of the pillar which was connected to the ground.
Corey tried to reinforce the stone pillar, but the cracks increased with each passing second, making it seem like what the pillar of earth was carrying was too heavy for it no matter how much reinforcement he placed into it.
In less than fifteen seconds, the earth pillar shattered into pieces, and the crown began to fall back to the ground.
Corey frowned deeply when he saw this, and then he controlled the wind.
A mini tornado the size of a car appeared beneath the crown, and the crown stopped falling.
But this was only for a moment, and Death spoke once again.
"Are you trying to mock me or you're just a fool? Do you think the Wind has more authority than the Earth?"
"Do you think the Wind has the authority to carry Death?"
Just like the earth pillar, the cyclone began to disperse the moment Death spoke, and this time around, it was much faster than that of the earth.
Corey's frown deepened, and his eyes flashed with countless thoughts. He created a platform of hexagon barriers just before the cyclone dispersed completely. However, the moment he did that, Death scoffed.
"So you believe yourself to have the authority to carry Death just because you're a Paragon? How arrogant of you, mortal!"
Death's voice boomed into the world, and in just three seconds, the platform of hexagon barriers shattered into pieces.
Corey frowned deeply when he saw this, and he watched the crown fall for two seconds before coming to a decision.
He stretched out his right hand, and then a grey light appeared around his hand.
Void Force
His void force pulsed, and a grey light appeared around the falling crown.
Death noticed this light, and a frown appeared on his face when he saw that his crown has stopped falling.
'No.'
'It has not stopped. The mortal slowed down time around my crown.'
Death thought with a scowl on his face, and then he faced Corey who had a drop of sweat running down his forehead.
"I nearly forgot one of the most annoying powers of Paragons. Their uncanny ability to control the void is even greater than the horrors of the void themselves."
"Paragons. Supremes. Two races that are despised by so many in existence."
Corey glanced at Death as he spoke, and then he shifted his gaze back to the crown.
In the eyes of those without the ability to control time, it would seem like the crown has stopped moving. But in the eyes of Corey and Death who were extremely familiar with the power of time, what they were seeing was the slow descent of the crown.
The crown had not stopped moving. Instead, it was moving at an extremely slow speed.
'This... This is taking a lot more void energy than I expected.'
Veins could be seen on his forehead and hand as he continued using void force to slow down time around the crown.
If he had not been using void force but normal time energy, he doubted he would have been able to slow down time around the crown of death to such an extent.
The crown was an item of an Old One, and despite it being a lot weaker than what it was meant to be, it had the aura of an Old One.
Corey knew that an Old One was far greater than the strongest being he had met asides from the Paragon Ancestor... The Wandering Paragon.
The old man whom he met in the dungeon in his school was a Tier 8, and Corey was certain that the man was nothing before an Old One.
'This just shows how much greater void force is to both time and space.'
Corey exhaled softly, and then he lowered his hand.
The grey light around his hand receded, but the grey light surrounding the crown remained.
"Enough of this."
Death's voice drifted into Corey's ears, and Corey looked at him. He could feel the anger in the voice of the Old One, and he could not help but narrow his eyes.
'I need an opportunity. Just one opportunity.'
As Corey had this thought, Death looked at the sky, and his black eyes glowed.
"Wake up."
"Hmm?"
Corey looked up with a baffled expression, and he blinked in confusion when he noticed nothing happening for the first seven seconds.
But just as he was about to look away, he noticed something.
The sky rippled, and the red stars in the sky blinked.
They went off and on, almost like somebody had flipped the switch on and off.
'No. Not like that. It blinked like something that was alive. The stars are eyes?!'
Corey's expression became extremely solemn, and then his eyes widened in disbelief.
He saw the eyes move erratically, and an extremely powerful perception from above descended on him.
"What the?"
Cracks began to appear in the sky, and then Corey saw extremely massive tentacles begin to descend from the sky.
There were only a dozen tentacles and they looked like that of a jellyfish, but the aura these tentacles radiated caused goosebumps to appear on Corey's skin.
'Jellyfish tentacles?'
The gears in Corey's mind spun wildly as he gazed at the descending jellyfish-like tentacles, and then he looked up.
'The red stars that used to signify the absence of the night and the presence of the day were actually eyes? And tentacles are also descending from the sky?
'Which means that there is a living being up there. A living being with jellyfish tentacles and thousands of eyes... One of the leaders of Hollow Creed.'
'There were five leaders of the Hollow Creed, and one of them was a floating jellyfish with a thousand eyes.'
'What the hell? Was the body of the jellyfish this big in the memory?'
As Corey's mind was filled with a lot of thoughts as he gazed at the descending massive tentacles, Death spoke once again.
"Bring me my crown and the arrogant mortal."
