Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 891: 888: The Universal System?

"Have you ever heard of the God of Shadows."

A strange expression appeared on Archmage Kael's face when he heard Corey's question.

Ever since Corey arrived, he had acted strange and completely out of the norm. The questions he asked, and his actions were completely unexpected, even to a man as powerful, knowledgeable, and experienced as the Archmage.

All the questions he expected Corey to ask, Corey asked none of them. Instead, he asked completely random questions that one would not expect.

'First, he asked me what my Tier was. Then he asked if I knew about some completely random and strange ingredients that was used to concoct this strange but delicious drink called coffee. Then he asked for my name... Now, he's asking about the God of Shadows.'

'He's less than three decades old, so why would he ask about the God of Shadows? Is there a connection between them? Does he have an item related to the God of Shadows?'

'No.'

'He never used an ability that was related to either shadows or the darkness. He's also not an assassin.'

'So, is his fate tied to the God of Shadows in some way?'

'Maybe the God of Shadows is the enemy of the organization backing him? Did the God of Shadows assassinate somebody from his organization, and he was tasked to find clues related to the God of Shadows.'

So many thoughts went through the mind of Archmage Kael, and it was when Corey tapped the table loudly the Archmage was brought out of his train of thoughts.

"Since you were lost in your thoughts for approximately four seconds, I'm guessing you know something about the God of Shadows."

Archmage Kael's brow twitched, and then he shook his head softly.

"Who doesn't know about the God of Shadows? One of the most terrifying gods in the universe."

"There are a some gods that are regarded by upper echelon to be truly... fearsome and untouchable because of their abilities."

"The God of Shadows was one."

"There was a story that the ruling empire of a flourishing world had killed one of the God of Shadows followers, and when people went to check on the world because of its lack of activities, they came to realize that there was no living creature existed on the planet anymore."

"Was it the animals, the monsters, the residents, the trees, the plants... Everything was gone, and the only thing that was left behind was their shadows. Nothing more."

Archmage Kael looked straight into the eyes of Corey with a solemn gaze.

"That story was not a story, but the truth. I confirmed it myself."

Corey calmly took a sip of his coffee as he listened to the words of the Archmage with intrigue.

'Hmm... If the God of Shadows he was talking about was my past self, then I must have truly been powerful.'

'How do I make wipe out an entire planet, and let only their shadows remain?'

Corey's eyes flashed with curiosity.

"Even at my peak, I made sure not to get on the God of Shadows bad side because of how powerful he was."

A slight frown suddenly emerged on the face of the Archmage.

"There were also rumors that the God of Shadows possessed a heavenly crystal of shadows and darkness. But many of us denied that because how could the heavens themselves drop a crystal of shadows and darkness?"

"If it were a heavenly crystal of light, then we'd understand. But a heavenly crystal of shadows and darkness? That's absurd."

Corey raised a brow at this, and a calculating glint along with the light of surprise flashed in his eyes.

He never expected to hear such a thing, and he could not help but wonder if his past life had truly been in possession of a shadow or darkness infinity crystal.

Such information was big news for him, and it made him realize that if this was true, then he must have been truly powerful in his last life.

'Now I'm starting to get curious about what happened in my past life.' Corey sipped his coffee with a curious light in his eyes.

"If you were marked for death by the God of Shadows, you would live in fear for the rest of your life because the God of Shadows would never rest as long as you were marked, or as long as he was still alive..."

"...And before I became..." Archmage Kael looked at the dead black tree beside him with a complicated gaze. "... Before I became this, the God of Shadows was very much still alive. And since he's one of the strongest gods, I'm sure he must still be alive despite many eras having gone by."

Corey raised a brow at the words of the Archmage.

'I've had my suspicion ever since he reacted violently to me asking what his Tier was... The path he took to become an Archmage is different from the Tier system of the Universal System.'

'He's most likely older than the Universal System... Could he be an Old One?'

'No. That's not possible.'

'He's far too weak to be an Old One... And maybe even far too young.'

'But it's still surprising that I'll meet a being that's older than the Universal System. A being that predates the Universal System.'

'How old is he? How old is the Universal System? When did the Supreme Ancestor create the Universal System?'

'And how did people gain power in the universe before the arrival of the Universal System?'

A million thoughts and questions went through Corey's mind as he gazed at Archmage Kael almost like he was a priceless treasure.

"I don't like the look in your eyes."

Archmage Kael suddenly said, and Corey smiled and chuckled in response.

"I'm sorry about that. I was just thinking about a lot of things after everything you just told me."

Archmage Kael tilted his head. "About me?"

Corey smiled. "Unfortunately. No."

Archmage Kael's brows lowered slightly, and Corey nonchalantly shrugged.

"By the way. What do you know about the Universal System?"

Archmage Kael frowned deeply, and looked at Corey with a frustrated and confused expression. "The Universal System?"
