Chapter 82: The End Of Ten Calamities
It was early morning, and Kai and Lily were lying together in bed, covered only by a blanket while their breathing was quicker than usual and their faces slightly flushed.
Suddenly, there was knocking.
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
"Bro…" said his sister — Mei — from the other side of the door. "Are you done? The bed's been making noises all night…" her voice was teasing and curious at the same time.
Lily's cheeks turned faintly red at the question. She shyly turned her head away.
"I am!" Kai shouted, sitting up as only one question spun in his mind.
"Was she eavesdropping all night or even watching through the keyhole…? That reminds me, people here don't have p*rnography, so how—"
His endless train of thought was interrupted by Lily.
"Ah!!!" she yelped, grabbing for the blanket Kai had tugged while getting up. She caught it quickly so she wouldn't expose her chest.
But when she pulled it, the blanket slipped off Kai's body, revealing the sweat-covered abs on his stomach.
Mei slowly cracked the door open and peeked in. "Oh… Abs…" she murmured with a stupid grin.
This time Mei was fully dressed. She wore her school uniform — it simply felt like the most comfortable outfit she owned.
Kai looked at her. "Will you stop staring at me with that degenerate expression?" he asked as his sister practically drooled.
"Aaabs…" Mei repeated dreamily.
"What did you want to tell me?" Kai asked, steering away from the topic.
"Oh right…" Mei said, trying to force her gaze away from his abs. "Someone came to see us…" she said, stepping closer to the bed.
"Whispering Owl?" Kai asked.
"Yes…" she answered, then moved to Lily. "So? Did you like it?"
"W-what?" Lily stammered, blushing harder as she pressed the blanket against herself, hiding every inch of her body.
"Exactly what you think."
Lily's face turned completely red. She tried to speak, but no words came out. Kai stepped in instead.
"Get out! I want to get dressed!" Kai ordered sternly. His expression wasn't as composed as Mei expected.
"Okay, okay, I'm going…" Mei said, turning toward the door. She took a few steps, then paused in the doorway. "Just so you know… I will be looking through the keyhole."
When the door closed, Kai got up and dressed. "Are you coming?" he asked Lily.
Lily quietly nodded. "Just let me get dressed…"
"Then get dressed… Don't tell me you're shy of me now…" he said, opening the door — only to see Mei standing right there, scratching the back of her head.
"Well, I said I'd be watching through the keyhole…" Mei shrugged.
Kai just stared at her, then walked past.
"What's up with him?" Mei wondered, following him.
They eventually reached the door of the Safe House and stepped outside. At the entrance waited a large brown owl with three pairs of eyes. "We meet again."
Kai smiled. "Of course. It's good to see you again."
"I know you wish to kill me, but could you grant me one last request?" Whispering Owl asked, her three eyes rotating restlessly.
"You want to know about our world?" Mei asked, placing a hand on her hip.
"I'm glad I don't need to explain everything from scratch anymore, it often gets boring. A shame no one is on my level of knowledge…"
"Sorry to ask after your complaint, but… why do we have to kill you?" Mei asked curiously. She wanted to know why they needed to kill all Ten Calamities.
"Simply… You don't have to, but I'm asking you to. There is no more knowledge left for me in this world. The only thing I still wish to learn is your world…" the owl said with a soft sigh.
Realizing this would be a long conversation, Kai sat on the ground. "Well… you see… Our world is far more technologically advanced, but humans still haven't evolved enough…"
Hours passed as Kai and Mei took turns talking about people, wars, school, memories, and experiences.
Whispering Owl was deeply intrigued. She listened to every word, storing them in her mind.
"Well… I think that should be everything…" Kai said, rising from the grass. He glanced briefly at Lily, who stood behind them.
"Thank you, Kai and Mei. I'm very grateful. Now that I have all the knowledge from this world and yours… I believe it's time for me to go."
Mei smiled. "It was wonderful knowing you…" she said, taking out her notebook and pencil. She began drawing something.
"Well… I hope my death won't be painful…" the owl murmured.
Mei finished drawing a gun — and it materialized in her hand. "Of course it won't… We're not monsters…" she said, raising the gun to the owl's forehead. "But we're not angels either…"
SHOT!
The gunshot echoed, hitting the owl right between the eyes, killing her instantly.
"We'll miss you…" Mei said, tossing the gun. The moment it hit the ground, it vanished, as did the drawing on the paper.
"Since when can you create something so complex?" Kai asked with a mix of amazement and curiosity.
Mei made a V-sign with her fingers, placed it over her eye, and stuck out her tongue. "Level 50!" she bragged.
Kai began clapping slowly. "Grinding all night, huh?" he asked proudly with a small smile.
"Have you decided?" his sister asked.
"I think I have… I WANT to go to the beach… Yep, let's go on a vacation!" Kai shouted cheerfully.
"Perfect!" Mei agreed with a grin.
"Wait — vacation?" Lily asked in the background, completely confused.
"Yes… We're going on vacation. I mean, we killed the Calamities, and more importantly, I got my lust back, so why wouldn't we celebrate a bit?" Kai explained.
"Yeah, but what about the angry crowd?" Lily asked, glancing at the mass gathered in front of the White House gates. "We can't just leave them, they'll starve…"
"Who cares?" Mei waved her hand. "I wanna go to the beach so I can stare at Kai's abs!" she shouted.
THUD!
Kai smacked her on the head. "No weird ideas! And isn't that something I should be saying?"
"What are you talking about? I'm Rudy, you're Roxy. That means I'm supposed to be the weird one!" Mei declared proudly, hand on her chest.
"Should you really be proud of that?" Kai wondered silently, then decided to ask her something.
"Why do I have to be Roxy?"
Mei looked at him like it was obvious. "Because I fit the role of Rudeus better! You're more of a secondary character."
"Yeah, right," Kai muttered.
Lily watched them bicker. "I have no idea what they're talking about…" she thought, making a weird face.
Kai looked at Lily. "You know… just because I slept with you all night doesn't mean you're clean now. The Organization is still after us, and you still haven't apologized to Mei."
Lily lifted her head, meeting Kai's serious gaze. She lowered her head again in apology. "I'm sor—" she began, but Kai cut her off.
"Is that how you apologize to someone you almost killed?" Kai asked.
Lily kept her eyes down. She dropped to her knees, placing her hands on her lap. "I'm sor—" she tried again, but this time Kai pushed her head to the ground with his foot.
"Now apologize," he said, gritting his teeth.
A tear slid down her cheek, but she held her composure. "I deeply apologize for my betrayal… It will never happen again!" she said humbly.
Kai lifted his foot. "That's better…"
"I forgive you," Mei said with a smile — then leaned down to Lily's ear. "But… if you ever do something like that again, I'll slice open your stomach and skip rope with your intestines."
Lily's eyes widened instantly as she imagined the scene.
Mei stood and headed for the door. "I'm going to pack for vacation!" she cheered.
"Can you stand?" Kai asked.
Lily slowly lifted her head, then saw Kai's hand. She took it and stood with his help. "Thank you…" she said softly, brushing dust off her uniform.
Kai looked up at the sky. "What do you think… Is it really over?" he asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Well… We killed all the Calamities and now we're going on vacation, but is it really over? What else waits for us?"
Lily gave him a confused look, then raised her gaze to the blue sky. "I wouldn't know… Maybe another battle is waiting for us tomorrow…"
"Most likely," Kai agreed, then turned around and went inside to pack for their upcoming beach vacation.
Lily kept staring at the sky, thinking about Kai's questions. "What will tomorrow bring…?" she wondered, but she couldn't find an answer.
It seemed that the concept of tomorrow was on a level higher than even Kai's thinking. Not even the greatest prophets could predict what would happen next.
After a few more moments of deep thought, Lily turned around and walked inside.

In a small room made entirely of heavy black obsidian, Vex sat on his bed. With no windows, the only light came from a lamp hanging from the ceiling, swaying side to side.
The lamp's glow fell across Vex's tormented face. His breathing was fast and shallow, his hands pressed against his forehead. For hours, an unbearable headache had given him no peace.
Yet despite all the pain, Vex was smiling, repeating a single phrase over and over.
"The last Calamity has fallen."
