Chapter 74: Memories Of A Maid (Part 2)
"The job is…" Lily paused, swallowing saliva to try to wash away the taste of the floor, and then continued. "Done…"
She stood up and walked to the door, knocking gently. The elder opened it. "Are you finished?" the man asked.
Lily only nodded slightly, still feeling the awful taste in her mouth.
The elder smiled, and the three of them entered the room to inspect it. They looked around carefully, searching for even the tiniest speck of dust.
When they found nothing, they turned toward Lily. "How did you manage that?" the Elf asked, blinking a few times.
Lily shrugged, her gaze fixed on the floor.
The man chuckled. "Didn't I tell you she'd succeed?!" he exclaimed proudly, then looked at Lily. "You did an excellent job!"
Lily lifted her head slightly. "T-thank you…" she stammered.
Neko woman stared at the girl in confusion, but finally spoke. "Y-you may go…" she said softly.
"A deal's a deal…" the Elf added. "Though the question is whether the president will choose you…"
Lily looked at them with a bright smile before happily leaving the room. "I did it! I finally did something right!" she thought.
Ten days passed after that day, and finally, Vorenhart arrived.
He stepped out of his carriage and stood before the orphanage. "I hope I find someone suitable…" he said calmly as he approached the building.
He placed his hand on the doorknob and pressed it gently. The door slowly opened, revealing two boys standing on either side of the entrance. They were dressed in black-and-white uniforms — like proper butlers.
One of them raised a tray holding a glass of water and offered it to Vorenhart. "Here you go, sir…" he said without meeting the president's eyes.
"A well-mannered young gentleman…" Vorenhart said, taking the glass. He took a sip and placed it back on the tray.
The other little butler turned to him and raised one hand. "May I take your coat, sir?"
Vorenhart spread his arms, and the boy moved behind him, removing the coat carefully before hanging it on a rack.
Without a word, Vorenhart began walking down the hallway. He entered a classroom, where the children usually played. Inside, a table was set up, and the elders were sitting behind it.
"Welcome!" the Elf said.
Vorenhart nodded slightly and approached the chair. A young girl in a maid uniform came over silently and pulled it out for him.
The president sat down, placing his palms on the table. "I can see you've achieved some impressive results…" he said.
"Well… we're trying to do our best," Neko woman replied, before the man continued. "So… tell me, how many children do you need?"
"How many…" Vorenhart murmured. "Two maids and three butlers will be enough," he said with a faint smile.
"Perfect!" said the Elf, then turned toward the little maids. "We're ready for the meal."
One of the young maids nodded, pulled over a chair, climbed onto it, placed a candle on the table, and lit it.
Two other maids brought out plates with appetizers.
"What well-trained children…" Vorenhart remarked as he picked up a fork to taste the food. After a single bite, his face showed satisfaction. "Did a child make this meal too?" he asked.
"Of course," the man replied with a nod.
Vorenhart smiled softly and continued eating.

In contrast to the calm atmosphere inside, something completely different was happening outside.
"AHHH!" Lily screamed as a group of children kicked her.
"You took my place… you, the one with zero points!" shouted one boy, pulling his leg back before driving it mercilessly into her stomach.
"Ah!" escaped Lily's lips as she clutched her stomach.
The children showed no hint of guilt as they kicked the little pink-haired maid on her special day.
"W-why…" Lily thought weakly.
While three boys took turns stomping her, the only girl in the group began tearing the lower part of Lily's uniform.
"Harder!" one boy yelled, slamming his foot into her head.
Lily jerked as blood began to drip from her forehead. "AHHH!" she screamed, pain flooding through her body.
"I had 250 points, and you took my place!" one boy shouted, stomping on her hand.
"Rip her hair out!" the girl shouted, smearing mud across Lily's uniform. The boys grinned, flipped Lily onto her stomach, and one of them sat on her back to hold her down.
"N-not my hair…" Lily thought desperately, raising her trembling hand to protect her long, beautiful pink hair.
"Give me a sharp rock!" one of the boys said.
Lily bit her lower lip until blood filled her mouth, dirt and grass pressing against her tongue as she tried to keep her face down.
One boy brought a sharp stone, and another separated a section of her hair. Together, they began hacking at it, cutting it off strike by strike.
Lily's head jerked with every hit. The pain grew unbearable as strands of her hair were torn away.
The girl smeared more mud over Lily's back, then stood up. "Let's go…" she said. The boys stopped, glanced at her, and followed.
"Good luck with becoming the president's maid!" one of the boys sneered before walking away.

Inside the orphanage, Vorenhart and the elders finished their meal. "That was delightful… may I choose my new servants now?" Vorenhart asked.
"Please, just the dessert left," said the Elf, glancing toward the kitchen.
"We're ready for dessert!" he called — but got no reply.

Lily lay on the ground. Her body was completely beaten. Blood trickled from her forehead, and mud covered her uniform. "I-I must…" she tried to whisper, her voice trembling and weak.
Tears streamed down her face as she struggled to form words. "I-I must… bring—" she whimpered, forcing herself to stand. "—the dessert…"
Slowly, she pushed herself up, trembling on her feet. "T-this is—" her once-beautiful pink hair now filthy and half-shorn "—my duty…"
With unsteady steps, she made her way to the door. "This… is my—" she whispered, placing a hand on the doorknob "—only chance…"
Her body screamed in pain as she pressed the handle down. On shaking legs, she entered the kitchen. "Just a bit more…" she murmured.
She took a few more steps toward the counter, grabbed the tray with the small cake in the center, balanced it on one hand, and headed for the door.
Taking a deep breath, she pressed the doorknob and entered the classroom where Vorenhart sat with the elders.
Everyone turned toward her, staring in shock as she stood there — dirty, bloodied, broken. No one could move or speak.
Lily took a few more steps and placed the tray in front of Vorenhart. "P-please… enjoy…" she whispered, fighting the tears burning in her eyes.
"Lily! How dare you show up like that?!" the Elf shouted, rising from his chair. His voice was sharp, filled with anger — but Lily didn't look up. Her gaze was stubbornly fixed on the floor.
The man swallowed hard and stood as well, opening his mouth to say something, but before he could, Vorenhart rose from his seat interrupting him.
Everyone turned toward the president, who stood silently. The Neko woman bowed her head slightly. "W-we apologize for this sight… Lily will be punished immediately!" she said.
"No…" Vorenhart said softly, then knelt before Lily. "You will be my new maid," he said.
Lily's eyes sparkled with joy, while the elders' eyes filled with confusion. "A-are you sure?" the Elf asked.
"I've already decided," Vorenhart replied.
"O-ok..." Neko woman stammered.
"W-would you like to choose the rest of your staff?" the man asked, stepping aside.
"Yes," Vorenhart said, never taking his eyes off Lily.
Lily blushed lightly and followed the Neko woman to the washroom to change.
"It seems you've succeeded…" the woman said, helping Lily remove her dirty uniform. "But… what happened to you?" she asked.
Lily stayed silent, lost in her world of happiness.
The woman washed her face, then took scissors to trim her hair. She cut the ends evenly, shaping it neatly. "You're such a lucky girl… you should be proud of yourself."
"I did it…" Lily thought contentedly. "I finally did something right… Mama, I hope you're proud of me…"
"There," the woman said.
Now clean, Lily wore a brand-new uniform. She spun around once, admiring herself in the mirror, then straightened her back and slipped back into her maid persona. She stepped out of the washroom.

After Vorenhart had chosen all the servants he needed, he stepped outside, and they all entered the carriage. The horses began to gallop toward the White House.
Vorenhart cleared his throat. "Ahem, ahem… I'd like to congratulate you all for joining me, and say — welcome!" he said.
The children replied softly with a "thank you," and he continued. "At the end of the month, I'll choose one butler and one maid as the heads — and each will be granted one wish. So, good luck!"
"A wish?" the children repeated, as a spark of competition ignited among them once again.
While the others looked at the president, Lily drifted into her thoughts. "I thought working for the president would be enough for me… but now I want more. I want that wish."
