Siblings with No Life Get Summoned to Another World as Detectives

Chapter 62: Miyuki

Miyuki sat gracefully on the sofa in the grand living room of the White House. The soft clink of porcelain echoed faintly each time she lifted her cup, steam curling from the surface of the pale amber tea.

Beside her, Lily sat a little too rigidly, her fingers tightening around her own cup as if it might steady her trembling nerves.

Lily's eyes darted toward Miyuki, lingering for a moment before quickly flicking away, her cheeks tinged with pink.

"So… D-do you like the tea?" Her tone was polite , but beneath it lay the faint tremor of shyness

Miyuki only gave a slight nod in response, her face perfectly composed. Her eyes, sharp and distant, drifted back to her teacup.

Lily lowered her gaze, unsure whether to speak again or simply sit there,

Then — Miyuki's ears twitched ever so slightly. A tiny, instinctive movement.

Miyuki froze, her expression still icy, but her body language changed in an instant. Her shoulders straightened, her eyes narrowed, and her delicate fingers stilled on the porcelain cup. She was listening carefully.

"Something wrong?" Lily asked.

Miyuki raised a finger to let her know not to disturb her at that moment. Then, with a sudden fluid grace, Miyuki set her teacup down on the table.

Straightening her back, she rose to her feet, her long hair brushing against her shoulders as she moved. Without looking back at Lily, Miyuki began walking toward the staircase.

Finally, she stopped in front of the door to Kai and Mei's shared room and knocked. "Kai!" she called.

A muffled rustle came from inside, followed by Kai's familiar voice, slightly raised but casual.

"Come in!" he shouted back.

Miyuki turned the handle and pushed the door open. The hinges gave a soft creak, and the warm lamplight from inside spilled into the hallway, brushing against her pale features.

Her eyes immediately found them — Kai, standing in the center of the room, his back straight yet tense, while Mei clung to him with all the strength she could muster.

Miyuki's brows rose ever so slightly. For a heartbeat, her usual composure cracked, replaced with genuine surprise at the sight before her.

"You're still hugging?" she asked, her voice cool but edged with disbelief.

"She doesn't want to let me go…" Kai muttered, his voice strained as he tried to peel Mei's arms away from his waist.

He tugged once, then again, but the girl only buried her face deeper into his chest. Realizing it was hopeless, Kai let out a long, defeated sigh, his shoulders slumping.

Miyuki stood in the doorway, her eyes flicking between them. "They called from Purravale."

Both siblings stilled.

Miyuki's usual calm demeanor wavered, and though she tried to keep her tone level, a faint tremor betrayed her.

"They said the Meat Tower appeared!" she exclaimed, with a trace of panic she tried to hide.

"Meat what…?" Kai asked, confused.

"Calamity… Meat Tower…" Miyuki started after looking at them she continued, her expression grim.

"It looks like a building from the outside, but it's not. It's alive. A grotesque, pulsating thing made of flesh. Anyone who dares step inside… never comes out. They're swallowed whole, absorbed, their bodies dissolved into its walls."

Miyuki's gaze darkened. She lowered her voice, as though the walls themselves might be listening. "And from deep inside… from its very walls… you can hear it. A heartbeat."

"Alright… kill it…" Kai muttered flatly, his tone almost dismissive. His eyes, half-lidded, didn't even flicker with concern.

Miyuki blinked at him, caught off guard by his complete lack of reaction. Her composure cracked, and her voice trembled as she spoke. "Y-you won't help?" she asked, her words laced with disbelief.

Before Kai could answer, Mei pressed her cheek tighter against his chest, her arms refusing to budge from around his waist.

"No…" Mei's voice was muffled. She tilted her head just enough to look at Miyuki, her eyes glinting with quiet defiance. "That's your part of the country…"

Miyuki stared at them in silence, her heart pounding with frustration.

"B-but… you're the presidents…" Miyuki barely managed to say, her usually steady voice cracking as the words slipped out.

These were supposed to be the leaders — the ones who stood above everyone else. Surely they couldn't just dismiss something like this… right?

"And?" Mei replied. She didn't raise her head from Kai's chest, her arms still locked around him with desperate stubbornness.

Kai spoke. His tone was flat, mercilessly casual. "Do it yourself…"

Miyuki's eyes darkened, the usual sharpness in them dulled into a cold, stormy glare. The spark of reason and composure she usually carried vanished completely, replaced by a fiery anger.

She took a step forward, her hands curling into fists at her sides. "You can't do that!" she shouted, her voice fueled by frustration and disbelief. "Those are your people out there! You can't just… just leave them to die!"

"Who says?" Mei asked, her voice calm, almost taunting in contrast to Miyuki's outrage. She looked up at her with unflinching eyes.

Kai didn't even glance at Miyuki. His voice followed Mei's. "You work for us, not the other way around…"

Miyuki's composure snapped completely. Her hands trembled, but only with barely contained fury, as she strode toward the door.

Without a word, she flung the door open and stormed out, letting it slam behind her with a deafening crash.

"If they won't help me, I'll have to do it myself!" she muttered through clenched teeth.

Inside the room, Kai turned slowly to his sister. He reached out to gently brush a strand of hair from her face.

"Is the talisman working?" he asked.

Mei lifted her eyes to meet his. "No…" she whispered, shaking her head slowly.

Outside the room, Miyuki stormed down the grand staircase. Her heels clicked sharply against the polished wood, echoing through the hall. Her tail flicked behind her, a small yet telling sign of her anger.

From across the living room, Lily's eyes widened as she spotted Miyuki striding past her. She called out, her voice gentle and tentative, "Would you like some more tea?"

But Miyuki didn't even glance at her. With long, decisive strides, she brushed past Lily.

"They really are demons…" Miyuki muttered under her breath, the words harsh and bitter as they slipped through clenched teeth. "They'd let their own people die…"

Lily blinked a few times, her mind swirling with unease. Even though it wasn't really her business, a gnawing curiosity — and perhaps concern — pushed her forward.

With tentative steps, she ascended the staircase. When she reached Kai and Mei's room, she paused, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves. Her hand hovered over the door, then rapped lightly and pushed the door open.

"Is everything alright?" she asked, her voice soft, careful, carrying that gentle concern.

"Yes," Kai answered shortly.

Lily tilted her head slightly, observing them with a quiet curiosity. Her eyes lingered on Mei, still clinging to her brother with desperate determination. "Still hugging?" she asked softly.

Kai's gaze flicked toward her. "Do you need something?" he asked.

Lily paused, a thoughtful frown creasing her brow. Suddenly, a memory surfaced — there was a problem brewing in the Empire, one she had originally planned to handle on her own.

But with Kai and Mei holding the titles of presidents, it seemed only proper to inform them first. After all, this was their responsibility now; their country.

She took a careful step closer, her hands lightly clasped in front of her as if to steady herself. "Actually, we do have a problem…" she began.

Kai sank onto the edge of the bed, careful not to disturb Mei, who was still clinging to him.

He picked up a book from the nightstand, flipping it open as if to give himself something to focus on while listening.

"What is it?" he asked at last.

Lily hesitated, her hands fidgeting nervously. "The Empire… is running out of food supplies…"

She swallowed hard, her eyes flicking between Kai and Mei, unsure how they would react. Then, almost sheepishly, she added, "…and I don't know how to fix it…"

Mei finally released her brother, intrigued. "And how did that happen?" she asked.

Lily took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully as she looked between the two siblings. "Well… the Elves used to supply us with food," she began, her tone calm but tinged with unease.

Her gaze dropped for a moment, before she continued. "But now… they're gone…"

Kai leaned back slightly against the bedframe, still holding the book in one hand, flipping through its pages.

"Yeah, yeah… we'll fix it," he said confidently, his tone effortless as if the Empire running out of food was just another minor inconvenience. "Give us three days…"

Then, with a sly tilt of his head, he added. "But… I want something in return!"

Lily blinked, taken aback by the sudden twist in his words. Her curiosity piqued, she leaned slightly forward. "What?" she asked, curiously.

"Can you find Lilith? She disappeared... Again..." Kai asked.

Lily nodded quickly. "I will do everything I can, Master!" she exclaimed.

Without waiting for further instructions, she turned on her heel and moved toward the door. With a gentle push, she closed the door behind her.

Kai and Mei exchanged a glance, a silent understanding passing between them. No words were needed; the spark in their eyes said it all.

Then, almost simultaneously, they smiled. They didn't need a complex plan or endless resources. They already knew exactly how to fix the food shortage…

WITH FOOD.
