Chapter 1204: At the borders

Chapter 1204: At the borders

The soldier took a moment to catch his breath before saying, "It's urgent news from the Brightness Kingdom."

The three of us deeply knitted our brows when we heard this.

The prime minister just calmly said, "Stop beating around the bush and tell us already."

Though his voice was calm, it was clear by the look in his eyes what he was really thinking.

And that was made even worse by the soldier's next words.

"Are you sure about this?" The prime minister asked in a cold voice.

The soldier trembled before slowly giving a nod and putting the report down on the table for the prime minister to look at.

The prime minister and chancellor didn't waste any time in taking this report.

I went over and looked over their shoulders, but my brows also furrowed the moment that I read the content of this report.

It was a report on the battle in the Brightness Kingdom.

Once the detached demon army arrived at the border of the Brightness Kingdom, they didn't waste any time in cutting through the Brightness Kingdom.

The Brightness Kingdom army naturally went to stop the detached demon army, but the same thing happened where they weren't able to do a single thing against the demons. All that happened was that they were overwhelmed by the strange abilities of the demons and had no choice but to retreat.

The places that the demons went through received varying degrees of corruption.

It wasn't exactly like the corruption that I had encountered under the sea, but it seemed like there was something that was corrupting the land that the demons passed through.

That gave me even more confirmation that the demons were related to the corruption that had happened in the Merman Empire.

At the same time, it gave me confirmation that we would be getting closer to the one that was masterminding everything.

But that wasn't the most pressing matter.

The most pressing matter was the fact that...

"They're already approaching our borders?" The prime minister said while slamming his fist onto the table in front of him before saying, "Why didn't you say this sooner!?"

The soldier had an awkward look on his face since the prime minister was the one that had told him to give a full report. But it wasn't as if he could say anything to the prime minister now that he was like this.

I raised my hand to stop him before turning to the soldier to say, "How long before they arrive?"

The soldier pulled out a report for me and said, "The last estimate was within a day."

The prime minister and chancellor looked like they wanted to say something, but I raised my hand again to stop them before saying to the soldier, "Call all of our wyvern riders and have them prepare for a fight. Half of the other soldiers will remain in their positions while the other half will remain in their positions just in case anything happens."

Before the soldier went off, he turned to look at the prime minister and chancellor.

The way that he looked at them was almost as if he was waiting to hear their opinions first before doing anything.

One might think that this was an affront to my authority as the king, but I also knew that in terms of governing the country, these two did more than I did.

So it was only natural that he would look for their opinion.

The prime minister didn't say anything at first, but then he asked, "Do you think that will be enough?"

It was clear that he wasn't looking down on the demons, it was clear that he was giving them all the credit that they were worth, which was why he was asking this.

It seemed like he was taking the demons very seriously with how he was planning on bringing everything that they had to fight the demons.

He wanted to bring the entire army, not leaving anyone behind in this fight.

But I knew that would actually harm us rather than help us.

So I just said, "We have our allies and the undead now that I'm back."

The prime minister and the chancellor slowly nodded in agreement.

During this time, the undead had been assigned to simple tasks since I hadn't been around to train them for anything else.

But the prime minister felt like he had to add, "What about the Holy Empire group?"

"It doesn't matter right now. The most important thing is taking care of these demons." I said in a serious voice.

Above all else, it was important to defend ourselves.

I was sure that even if the Holy Empire found out about the undead, they wouldn't do anything now that there was a prophecy in place. At the very least, they would wait until this war was over to do something.

By then, I should have enough sway with the Holy Empire to deal with it when the time

comes.

War was dangerous, but it was also an opportunity to grow.

That was how our kingdom reached the size that it was now.

After all of this, the prime minister gave a nod, but it wasn't for me.

It was for the soldier.

The soldier didn't hesitate at all once he received this nod and ran off to pass down the orders.

The prime minister and chancellor both had grim looks on their faces after this.

Taking a deep breath, the prime minister said, "I hope that things will turn out alright. If it doesn't..."

Before he could finish that thought, I added, "We'll make it turn out alright. That's all you have to remember."

The prime minister still had traces of doubt in his eyes, but he eventually gave a slow nod in

response.

I didn't say anything else as I started looking at the reports that were here.

The more information that we had, the more that we could do against the demons.

The prime minister and chancellor looked at each other before they started reading the reports as well.
