Shadowhunter in the Apocalypse

Chapter 38: Mia’s Mission Part two

Mia wanted to curse her luck, in her dreams her first mission would go so smoothly that she would be praised by everyone, this was a simply recon mission, and she had messed it up.

Well, only one way to salvage it now. Kill the criminal.

"I knew that cat looked suspicious," Kane growled, then blurred forward.

But Mia's lips curved into a smile as her body flickered and reappeared five steps away. Kane's claws shredded empty air where her throat had been. If she hadn't used her vampire speed, she'd already be a corpse.

The itch crawling under her skin told her hybrid blood was already working overtime patching the burns, but it didn't dull the memory of that searing white light. She never wanted to feel that again, but thankfully it only happened when one was attached to a shadow that wasn't their own and was hit by a powerful bright light that completely scattered the shadow

"Kane," Mia said evenly, straightening her posture. "You are wanted by the House of Black for numerous crimes against humanity and the Supernatural realm, you do not have the right to a trial, and neither will you be granted anything but a swift death."

"Big talk for a Shadowhunter without her shadows" Kane smirked, eyes shamelessly dragging across her figure before he continued "You made me look stupid today girl; I'll make sure you pay me back extra"

She was in her costume with only her eyes visible, but her shape gave her away as a girl.

Disgust twisted her gut, but she didn't rise to it. Instead, she flicked her gaze to the seven-foot brute looming behind him. "As his accomplice you are to surrender for a fair trial"

The man barked a laugh. "Not a chance, bitch. This whole room's built to fry your sneaky race." He snapped a punch forward, and a cluster of shadow-orbs blasted toward her like cannon fire. He punched out and rapid shadow balls flew towards her in alarming speed.

Mia's eyes narrowed at the magic, "You're part of the Equalist."

He didn't answer, Kane darted in again, claws bared. "Don't ruin the face, Jeff," he sneered. "I want it pretty."

Mia almost laughed. Even now when he knew she was here to kill him, the vampire still wanted to fuck her? There had to be at least a limit to how horny one can be.

How had he survived this long?

She snapped her wrist and hurled a fireball. Kane twisted at the last second, but flames touched across his side. His coat instantly ignited.

Kane dropped, rolling desperately across the ground as he tried to put out the flames. His screams were music to her ears.

Mia's eyes glinted as the vampire got closer, she flung a fire ball at the shocked vampire who managed to twist his body and avoid most of the damages, but his clothes still caught on fire.

Zane screamed, dropping and rolling on the floor to put the fire out.

Mia smirked and lobbed a second fireball into the ceiling before cutting it off with a sharp pull of will, she had achieved her aim and ruined the bulbs.

She could torch this whole building if she wanted, but that would bring half the city down on them. Better to keep it quiet. Now that shadows crawled back into her reach, she felt whole again.

Mia's sword blurred as she decided to go on the offensive too, shadow balls hissed into mist as her blade sliced through them. She angled for the brute's shoulder, she didn't want to go for the kill yet, maybe he could be interrogated for the whereabouts of other members of the terrorist group.

"You said you were a shadowhunter…" The man's eyes widened. He pointed at her, baffled. "But you are also part of the Equalist? Why are you attacking us?!"

He managed to dodge at the last second and swung clumsily, a meaty fist slammed into her gut. Pain ripped through her as she staggered back, but she ducked just in time to avoid Kane's claws.

It seemed the Vampire was back in the fight, she didn't plan to make that last long.

Her counter slash nicked the vampire's legs, hitting a nerve. Kane stumbled, crashing down. His regeneration would fix it fast…..unless she ended him first.

The giant man didn't give her much of a choice though, the brute roared and hurled another storm of shadow balls. Mia conjured daggers of pure night, each one splitting the blasts apart. She twisted, formed a shadow-arrow, and loosed it at Kane just as he started to rise.

The arrow speared his stomach. Kane's scream pierced the room, but mia's frown deepened. He'd shifted his heart just in time. He was such a troublesome cockroach.

Fine. She summoned three more.

The brute charged, fist swinging and ready to cave her head in.

She looked at him, not shifting her target as she spat pure red flames. The man looked so horrified and tried to get out of the way, but it was too late, the fire had already latched unto him and it was burning without care.

He hit the floor, thrashing and rolling in a desperate attempt to stay alive, but Mia Mia's focus stayed on Kane.

Her grin sharpened as the three arrows flew towards their targets: his head, chest, groin.

Mia grinned as all three arrows smashed their targets with incredible accuracy; she watched as the criminal known as Kane turned into dust.

"Good riddance."

She turned at the stench of burnt flesh. The brute still writhed, trying to snuff the fire. Mia clenched her fist, smothering the flames with more effort than she used with this entire fight. Fire was way trickier to control than shadows, if she had let the building burn it would have been out of her control to stop it.

Now it was on to the actual lab, she steeled herself for whatever twisted thing was going on in there and smashed the door open.

What she saw was..
