Shadowhunter in the Apocalypse

Mia POV

While Reed was having the time of his life with a pretty brunette and a dark skinned bombshell, Mia exhaled for the hundredth time as she sat on the roof of a church staring at the moon.

She knew she was supposed to be looking for any suspicious supernatural activity in the area, the House of Black intelligence systems had picked up a picture through a CCTV camera of a known supernatural felon that was recently moving in this area.

Kane.

Kane was a very careful vampire with a very extensive crime list, whatever horrible thing a criminal could do, he had already done it, r*pe through hypnosis, plain r*pe, murder of humans, murder of supernaturals, live feeding, distribution of vampire venom as drugs to humans.

It was like was trying to keep up with the trend with each crime, and he was one slippery vampire, which was why Mia had been standing here for a whole day since Reed had left with that girl.

Vampires feared the sun but the House of Black wouldn't put it past the guy to find ways around it but that wasn't even much of her concern.

Mia gritted her teeth as recalled the subtle smirk Jasmine had given her it was like the woman had been taunting her which was confusing as she had never met this girl before. Mia had at first been worried it was his girlfriend from the heat of her stare, girls were usually like that, they would smile when talking with each other but their eyes clearly told another story, she would have been mortified if she had actually made out with Reed in front of his actual girlfriend, just for Jason to tell her it was Reed's personal assistant with this annoying smirk on his face.

Apparently Special class got fucking personal assistant they could use sexually any time!

It was even part of the job description!

And Jason! That bastard had been all to eager to share that information, heck he even made sure to say that part before he told her the girl's actual name.

She almost lost it when she imagined what those two would probably do on the jet on a ten-hour trip!

She tried to tell herself that Reed wouldn't be like other men, no matter how tempting a woman was her Reed could probably resist right? He resisted her after all.

But then the woman looked to be in Reed's age range…..could he really resist that frankly scandalous office siren clothes she had on? Even she had felt a bit jealous when Jasmine had turned to leave, that weapon behind her was just too heavy to not work on a hot-blooded straight man.

Could it be he was able to resist Mia not just because of her dad but because she was too young for him?

She suddenly shook her head as her vampire eyes zoomed in on a suited man holding a briefcase. She discarded her thoughts and instantly went on mission mode.

The man looked seemingly normal, just a man coming back from a long day from work, except he smelled like a vampire and her sharper eyes had captured his face immediately as her target.

She followed Kane quietly from behind, coming down from the roof in her shadow form and turning into a cat as she followed him.

Two minutes later after a turn the man quickly twisted backwards, Mia as a cat pretended to be very interested in scratching off the paint of a nearby wall. It seemed to have passed the man's radar, he shrugged and continued onwards.

She decided to pull back a little, her target was a very instinct driven man, but even with the increased difficulty she managed to follow him to his destination.

The Orphanage for supernatural kids was where the man finally stopped before calling a number, Mia's heart dropped but she tried not to jump to conclusions yet.

It was just a Felon going into a place meant for kids.

Yeah, It just couldn't be good no matter how she saw it.

An Old woman walked out a moment later, by the small horns on her head, Mia instantly placed her as a witch. Mia tried not to be like the judgy type of Shadow hunters, she had stayed with her mum and made witch friends, so she knew there were lots of good witches, but witches and warlocks had a bad rep in crime ratios.

The Old witch half walked half limped to the gate and opened up.

The man walked in after once again accessing his environment.

Mia waited for a while as they walked towards the main door to the building before she dried to cram herself into the bars of the gate but when she tried to enter, a force slammed her back, she almost loss concentration and turned back into her human form but she managed to hold on if not barely.

The orphanages had wards on. She had messed up

Now she couldn't enter inside even in her shadow form, the only thing she was able to get was the man's last words before he got inside the building.

"Let's do this quickly, I have a bad feeling about tonight."

With that the door was shut, she belatedly realized that she could have entered the man's shadow and cross the ward when the woman granted Kane access.

She mentally slapped herself for acting like such a newbie, she was being considered for special Class Goddamit, this was a terrible performance!

She could just tell that annoying old man who called himself Jason was watching her right now shaking his head somewhere.

'Well fuck him' She thought, she would have been much more comfortable with Reed on her first mission but now she was stuck with him.

Besides Reed was probably enjoying himself with that girl, she couldn't wait to finish this mission and wait for Reed to come back and praise her.

'I will make sure he forgets all about that Jasmine girl' Mia vowed in her heart, 'So what if Jasmine had a fantastic ass, I am way hotter, and my body isn't all that bad too.'.

Who was she kidding? She groaned

Kane took almost an hour before he came out, with the same briefcase, Mia noticed he had clinical gloves on, he didn't even look like he realized he had left it on.

Mia now had to make a choice and quickly, once again she had made a mistake of not doing prior thinking, was she supposed to enter the orphanage or follow the man to where he was taking the bag too?

The orphanage wasn't going anywhere….she made her choice.

As Kane came out of the orphanage, Mia sunk into his shadow from a hidden angle in the shadows, Mia was thankful that he decided to make his move in the night and make her mission easier.

At least this form of shadow movement was less draining on her psyche

She followed the man as he got into a cab, then got out and walked towards what seemed to be a shutdown clinic in a poor state.

Zane was either very good at telling when someone was on to him or he just had an unhealthy dose of anxiety, he kept on monitoring the cars behind his own uber, carefully making sure no one was tracking him until he got to the front door.

He knocked four times and carefully whispered "package secured"

From inside a deep rough voice replied "You sure you weren't followed"

Zane scoffed "Do I look like a fucking amateur to you? take this shit and give me my money you psycho"

The door opened at the statement and a man who had to be 7 feet tall revealed himself.

Inside the lab was first a decontaminating chamber that looked redesigned for purposes she wasn't sure of yet.

They both stepped into it and a bad feeling suddenly came over Mia.

Over a dozen blinding lights erupted from every angle, one moment she was in Zanes shadow the next moment she was casted out like some demon.

Mia bit back a scream as she felt the burns on her skin reminding her that no magic had no weakness.

Light, a shadow's worst nightmare.

The huge man looked stunned at the newest addition to the room before a scowl appeared on his face. "Not a fucking amateur, huh?" His gaze swung to Kane.

Kane's face twisted into fury.

"You—" he hissed at Mia.
