Chapter 19: Battle of Giants
In a small house in NQSC the mood was… complicated to say the least. A team of Reporters have managed to get on top of one of the Skyscrapers at the edge of The City with a perfect view on the Battlefield Sunny and the Government Saints were currently fighting.
Which meant that the entire thing has been broadcasted into every media channel from the very beginning when the Saints and the Wolf Army arrived. People all over the world, well…the places that were still suited to be occupied by human souls, that is, were holding their Breaths as a calamity fit to rival the one in Antarctica arrived.
People were crying and falling into Sorrow Because they knew that another Human settlement would Fall today if not a miracle happened.
And a Miracle happened indeed. Just as everyone thought that today would be the day Humanity would lose an entire City along with an Army of Masters and 3 of The most powerful Saints in the world, 2 worlds even. The situation shifted drastically as a single man Clad in Onyx Armor appeared by the side of the 3 government Saints.
Nobody Could make out what they were talking about but that wasn't relevant because in the next moment the Scales of the battle shifted as another 2 Giants arrived. One in the form of a Dragon and the other a Giant that put even Saint Raised by Wolves to shame.
Rumors spread about the Mysterious man that appeared seemingly out of Nowhere. Of course many people realized that the long lost Champion of Humanity named Mongrel had once more taken on the Task of defending the helpless people of the City they all thought would crumble to death along with countless human souls.
That very Man while simultaneously fighting some of the most Harrowing creatures the 2 worlds have ever seen was also sitting on a couch in his house along with Nephis and Rain who couldn't help but wonder if Sunny had kept way more secrets from them as they had thought.
"Sunny…I won't be disappointed if you told me that you have already reached the rank of a Supreme, you know?"
Nephis indirect question sent a wave of Amusement through his body. It would almost mask the endless amount of annoyance and rage that was inside of him. He didn't know that there was a team of Cameramans and a Reporter on one of the Skyscrapers. He knew that the whole thing would be exaggerated beyond comprehension once this was over.
He could just hope that due to Mongrels secret Identity Noone would be able to draw a connection to him in the first place. Therefore destroying the very peaceful Life he has been living the last couple of Years.
But he had forgotten that one specific person knows very well who's behind the mask of a Demon and she would not rest until she had the Man named Sunless under the Banner of Valor.
Morgan, who was sitting in a Hotel room in NQSC, was smiling mischievously at the giant TV in front of her. She knew that today was her lucky day because now she had once more gained Leverage that she knew all too well how to use.
Sunny, of course was oblivious to the fact that she knew that little, or in reality, not so little secret of his. But he had other problems to solve at the moment anyway.
In an effort to not sound too hostile in front of the Woman he loved and his sister he deeply cared for he put on a mask of Amusement and smiled brightly at Nephis before stating his answer.
"No I'm not a Supreme, I'm just a Saint."
Before Nephis could answer Rain inserted herself in the conversation with a comment that could very well come from everyone else sitting in front of a TV or staring at their Communicator.
"I find that hard to believe, brother."
She said full with awe as her Gaze refused to miss even a second of what was happening on the TV in front of them.
"Well, you can. Because I can't lie."
He replied Chuckling. Which didn't help one bit since what they were seeing right now was more than any Saint in 2 worlds was capable of doing.
"How can you even hold up a conversation right now? Your mind must be running in overdrive."
Nephis was still shocked by what was happening and that was apparent from how her voice sounded as she failed to hold up the Facade of the Elusive Changing Star. She knew that Sunny was strong but this? This was beyond her comprehension of what a Saint could achieve or even dream about.
"I'm used to it though. Since the day I became a Awakened I had to deal with having more than one point of View and that number rose as I climbed in Class."
He took a deep breath and leaned backwards on his couch staring at the Grey ceiling while already wondering how to deal with the aftermath of his intervention of his persona as Mongrel.
"I'm gonna take a nap."
He said calm and collected as his eyes closed and his mind now had more resources to play with as his Original body fell into a sleep that was guided to absolute perfection by Nightmare.
Rain and Nephis looked at him with wide eyes.
'He's absolutely impossible. How could he take a nap in a situation like this? Doesn't he have to fight the Gate Guardians?'
They thought but to their surprise the fight went on without change. His Incantations were no less scary and Unyielding, quite the contrary actually. With one less body to control his mind could focus on the important task in front of him and so his display of Strength became even more Harrowing as the Dragon and the 2 Giants, one in the form of a person in armor and the other a 6 armed Creature with fangs that were ready to rip everything to shreds and horns that looked like a crown earning the thing the name [King of Death] from many people watching.
The mood was way different for someone else entirely of course. Effie who was trying to break down the Corrupted Titan along with Jet and Sunny had tried many things but every wound they delivered closed instantly but not before releasing a giant cloud of spores that tried to assault their minds as the fight went on.
Kai on the other hand was in delight as Sunny in the form of a dragon fought alongside him seemingly perfect in union. The Great Tyrant they were fighting had already lost several of his limbs and was slowly losing its strength but they still had trouble bringing it down since its minions acted as a shield that they found themselves unable to breach.
Sunny though had a plan and had already asked Cassie to help him transfer it to Kai.
[Sunny said he needs you to order the thing to stop with as much force as you can when I give you a signal. Even if it's just for a second.]
Kai didn't know what Sunny's plan was but he didn't need to. He trusted him and knew that whatever his plan was it would only help them win this battle faster so he made himself ready for Cassie's command as he watched Sunny rise into the Sky disappearing in an ocean of Dark clouds.
'What could he possibly be doing?'
The Gate guardian continued to attack him with its terrible maw and Claws as Kai who was now all by himself had trouble keeping himself alive.
But he didn't have to wait for long as a smaller Shadow than the Dragon casted broke through the Veil of Clouds with incredible speed revealing a creature that looked like a Pterodactyl with 2 long Tails that ended in a Stinger came into view.
Its wings pressed tightly against its body it looked like a Falcon, or to better describe it, a missile directly aimed at the Great Tyrant shooting with a speed Kai himself had never seen or could ever dream to achieve before.
[NOW]
Cassie's scream exploded In his head and like clockwork without hesitation Kai pulled every ounce of Essence together and let out a deafening command that the Gate Guardian couldn't help but to follow obediently.
"STOP"
The Abomination froze for just a split second. But that split second was enough for Sunny to aim for the Neck of the Giant Airborne Creature as his Long Beak sunk into its flesh like an Arrow and slit though it like a hot knife through butter.
The thunderclap sound of his collision with the Great Tyrant spread through the Wasteland leaving windows on the distant Skyscrapers shattered and a Shockwave carrying dust as wide as the eye can see.
Just as his entire body traveled through the Body of the Abomination he spread his wings wide, drowning the world beneath it in a Veil of Shadows making everyone beneath think the Night has descended upon NQSC for a Second.
Sunny managed to break his fall before he hit the ground just in time to watch the Gate guardian fall to the Ground along with its Minions who had been reduced to a Red mist from the force of impact they couldn't endure. Luckily Kai had suffered no more than a nosebleed as his entire body was shaken to its core.
His head dizzy from not just the absurd amount of Essence he had just channeled in just a short moment but also from the the immense feeling of disbelief that overcame him he descended towards to ground to meet Sunny who had dismissed his shell and had begun to harvest the Cores of the Great Tyrant.
"What was that?"
Kai asked, rattled and shocked to his core while the man that was currently slicing the flesh of a Great Tyrant effortlessly with a longsword made out of Shadows just shrugged and answered with an amused tone.
"I would call it an Orbital Cannon. But it doesn't really matter. Now come help me gather those Shards, pretty boy."
Kai, who was too exhausted to argue, just summoned a Sword of his own and began helping Sunny harvest the Shards. Just as he was about to slice into the Abomination reality hit him as he quickly looked over to the rest of their Cohort.
"Shouldn't we help them?"
He asked, still breathing Heavily and sweating from every pore on his body.
"Nah it's fine. The thing will be dead sooner than you think. I have already located its heart and now I just need the right moment to bring it to his inevitable death."
Sunny's tone and general demeanor helped Kai to calm down quite a bit but as he looked at the other Gate Guardians who seemed unarmed he felt nervous again. Sunny noticed his rattled expression and gave him a quick smirk that once again reminded Kai of their first encounter in Sunnys Café where he let him feel his Bloodlust to its full extent.
"Don't worry, those Bastards days are counted as well."
Kai's knees gave in a little as he nervously started to tear the flesh of the Great Tyrant apart.
'I know he's Crazy but this? Just how much does a man have to go through to get to such a point?'
Several kilometers away Effie and Jet were thinking the same as they watched Sunny conjuring a Giant Battleaxe from Shadows as he brought it down on the Titans Center burying it deep inside.
'Not deep enough.'
Jet thought and she was correct. The core of the Titan that Sunny has long located was way deeper inside the body but little did she know he had no intention in reaching it with just that one swing.
The shadow Colossus stepped to the side of the Corrupted Titan and Grabbed one of its Arms.
"EFFIE!"
He screamed while the giant Shadow Spawn pointed at the Arm on their side. Together they grab it and hold it firm, leaving the Gate Guardian immobilized. The shadow Colossus raised one of his feet into the Air while gesturing for Effie to do the same. She understood his plan immediately and put her Feet against his. Seconds later they pressed their Feet together with all their force while pulling at the Arms of the Great Titan.
The wound Sunny had previously delivered with the Axe ripped further open letting the Axe fall out of it as the Immense body made out of Plants and Wood threatened to tear apart completely.
That alone would not kill the Creature though and Sunny knew that. But his plan worked nonetheless as the Shimmering core in the form of a Green Crystal came into view perfectly for Jet to Strike at it.
The Soulreaper smiled mischievously with a Grin that showed similar Bloodlust as Sunnys as she shot from the ground towards the revealed heart of the Corrupted Titan with incredible Speed that made her Vanish into a Blur.
As her Scythe made contact with the Green Crystal the world was drowned in a Green light that could be seen from the Moon. Sadly there was only a single Man who could witness the spectacular event from there and he was more than a little intrigued.
'OH how wonderful. You have gotten stronger than I expected, young one.'
He wanted to say but with no Air to carry his words all that came out was a bit of frozen Blood from the crumbling body.
