Chapter 29: Confessing.... Soon
Ava came back, and then she was arrested. They tried to remove me, but failed. Aiden was sent to investigate Ava about everything. Daniel and I were sitting in the office. The room was quiet, and it was awkward. We both know who we are, and I trust him. I have been working with him for more than three months. Believe it or not, I have started thinking of him as family. Tristan was also a nice guy, I think. I never met him, though.
Daniel, who was sitting in front of me, looking down at the floor and thinking something, was a good friend of Tristan's. He wants this case to be solved, and so do I. With Ava being investigated, there is a huge chance she is going to try to take me down. But no one here will believe her, except Daniel. I have to make this right.
I was sitting on the chair, opposite Daniel. There was a table between us. Several files about Tristan, Edgar, the previous case, and Ava lay out on the table. 'Ava', that made me remember the time he was studying some file and suggested investigating Edgar, but he wasn't in the country at that time. That's where we are going to start.
"I know you know," I say. "I know you know that I know you know," he replied.
"Look, I have a reason." I say.
"Better be a good one."
"I had no other option. Long story short, I am in a mess, but I want to help sincerely," I try to make my sentence look convincing.
"Who are you exactly?" he asks me. "And how do you intend on helping?" he continues. "Well, I... have Tristan's phone," I change the topic a bit. "But..." he began to say, "how?"
"I know you want this case to be solved and justice to be served. I want that too. I, in no way, killed Tristan. I didn't even meet him in his entire lifetime," "I believe you," he says, but before he could say something, Aiden shouted that Ava was poisoned.
That's new news. I didn't think that she would be poisoned. Who will poison her? I wanted to, sure. But I sure didn't. When I got the chance, I called Edgar. If I didn't, I would be dead, and that merciless killer would be free to roam in this wicked world.
We took her to the hospital. Later that day, standing in the ED, I got a message from Edgar. "She was poisoned with Ipecac, she consumed a small dose." So the Queen isn't dead? I can see my death, not so far away.
Standing there, we noticed two people, a man and a woman. The woman was fully covered. She claimed to be Muslim. The man on her right said he was an intern. An intern? Like I believe that. He looked familiar. After he was gone, I remembered who he was. A bishop. Edgar's best friend. He? An intern? Well, maybe, but... Before I could think of something else, there was a bomb blast.
The building was evacuated, and I gave support to Daniel and brought him outside. His whole body weight was on me, and I thought he was really injured. Standing outside, in front of the hospital building, Edgar started talking to me. And I, I don't know why, brought up several countries facing problems. Then, to my surprise, Daniel stood up right. I was shocked, but not as much as Ava dying because of a bomb blast. The queen is dead? Plus, I think Ava is dead too.
There was a rumor George told me about, before we locked him up. It was that the wannabe queen is on "his" radar. Me, George and all the people who know about him fears him.
"He" is not to be taken lightly. If "he" wanted, "he" could kill Edgar, and no one would ask 'why?'. So, both the queens are dead?
We then went to Tristan's apartment, where I found Tristan's phone that I obviously placed there. One mistake that I made? It was cleaning the floor. It wasn't my fault, though. When I came to put the phone back, I was wearing gloves, and everything was right, except the fact that the dirt made it easy to see my footprints. So I cleaned the floor. I realized my mistake the day when I came back with Officer Aiden and Daniel. 'The floor was a little too clean.' I'm stupid, I'm a fool, why did I? I was so angry at myself that I just wanted to go to the top of the mountain and jump.
Daniel noticed it, and on our way back to the station, he teased me about it. "No matter who you are, you are still our stupid Ryan", he whispered in my ears.
The next day, outside the police station, I was talking with Officer Aiden when Daniel came from behind and scared the hell out of me. I was scared to death. I saw the devil in hell and came back.
We then went to a restaurant for breakfast, when Daniel's riddle opened my eyes. So I decided to confess.
