Chapter 4 - The Peculiar Method Of Salvation
### Chapter 4: The Peculiar Method of Salvation
“Though it was difficult, the elders wielded the Sword of the Heavenly Dao, fighting for thousands of years to eradicate the demonic path. Only then could they restore heavenly authority and establish the current Six Realms. Although I was not fortunate enough to be born in that era, I understand the hardships they endured and the rarity of the current peace. Now, as the overseer of the Six Realms, I must do everything in my power to protect this peace.”
The Heavenly Emperor spoke casually, but his tone was solemn, his gaze firm, as if he were making a vow. Even the aura of heaven and earth around him seemed to grow heavier.
“What does this have to do with summoning me?” Jiang Ran asked.
“It is indeed related.” Mingxi nodded, continuing, “During that great war, though the three thousand demon gods were vanquished, their divine thoughts lingered, forming a demonic abyss that constantly seeks to re-enter the Six Realms.”
“A demonic abyss?!” Jiang Ran was taken aback. She didn’t remember such a thing before her death.
“That’s right!” Mingxi’s expression became more serious. “When the demonic abyss first formed, it was fortunate that Wuchen Tianzun discovered and sealed it in time. However, over the past thousand years, the demonic abyss has grown increasingly restless, and the sealing power has weakened. Everyone in the Six Realms knows that one day, the demonic abyss will erupt completely. If the three thousand demon gods resurrect and re-enter the world, it will be a repeat of the past tragedy.”
Jiang Ran furrowed her brows. This wasn’t mentioned by the Heavenly Dao before! And she had shattered the demon gods’ divine cores. How could they possibly resurrect?
“For a thousand years, the Immortal Realm and various celestial beings have tried many methods, reinforcing the seal multiple times, but to little effect. They haven’t found a permanent solution.” Mingxi sighed, looking worried. “Until a hundred years ago, the previous Heavenly Star Sacrificed his entire cultivation to ask the Heavenly Dao for guidance. It was then that we received a holy decree, revealing the method of salvation.” She turned to Jiang Ran.
No way…
Jiang Ran’s heart sank. She tentatively asked, “Me?” Was her disguise blown?
“Yes, exactly!” Mingxi nodded vigorously. “According to the holy decree, the person who appeared within the array we activated was you.”
Appearing within the array makes you the savior? How random is that?
“Wait a minute!” Jiang Ran rubbed her aching head, taking a deep breath. “You must see that I’m just a mortal now, with no magic or skills. I can’t help you with a problem even the gods can’t solve. Are you sure I’m the person you’re looking for?”
“The Heavenly Dao’s decree doesn’t make mistakes!” Mingxi said firmly. “Moreover, when you arrived at the Shangqing Palace today, the Sword of the Heavenly Dao awakened and hummed. This has never happened before, proving that you are indeed the person we seek.”
“That’s different!” That little sword didn’t know anything.
“How so?”
“…” Jiang Ran was at a loss for words. Could she say it was her sword from her past life, just recognizing her aura?
“I understand it’s difficult for you to accept, as you were unintentionally involved. But this concerns the safety of the Six Realms, so I ask for your understanding. Rest assured, as long as the demonic abyss is sealed, you will be the benefactor of the Six Realms, and we will do everything we can to assist you. Whatever you ask for, we will fulfill.”
Mingxi, thinking she had concerns, added, “If you don’t believe me, I can swear by the name of the Heavenly Emperor to the Heavenly Dao.” She made an oath, stating that for the sake of resolving the demonic abyss, any of her requests that didn’t violate the righteous path would be fulfilled without hesitation.
Her solemn and serious demeanor made it impossible to ignore or refuse. Jiang Ran felt her headache worsening, a weariness accumulated over thousands of years washing over her again. She felt so tired.
Is this why the Heavenly Dao brought her back? Because there were unresolved issues from her last mission, requiring her to patch things up? What happened to being retired and enjoying a peaceful life? This is forced re-employment!
“Think about it,” she sighed deeply, pressing her aching forehead, feeling increasingly exhausted. “I really have no cultivation or abilities now. Even if I wanted to help, I couldn’t.”
“No matter,” the Heavenly Emperor said, delighted by her softened attitude. “Just having the heart to help the Six Realms is enough. As for the demonic abyss… it’s not something that can be solved overnight. We are not in a rush.”
“…” Seeing her unchanged determination, Jiang Ran resignedly sighed. “I understand… So, do you want me to seal the demonic abyss or kill the resurrected demon gods?” She just wanted to finish the task and go home. Slaying demons wasn’t new to her.
“Oh, that’s not necessary!” Surprisingly, the Heavenly Emperor rejected her offer, looking at her with astonishment, as if she had misunderstood something. “We can’t let you do something so dangerous.”
“Then what am I supposed to do?” Was there another procedure?
“Jiang Ran, you just need to stay happy, take care of your health, and become our Immortal Realm’s healthy, happy little princess!” The Heavenly Emperor replied seriously.
“What?!” What nonsense is this, officially encouraging idleness? “Are you sure that by doing this, I can resolve the demonic abyss and save the Six Realms?”
“Ah! I didn’t tell you?” The Heavenly Emperor suddenly realized, “The person to resolve the demonic abyss and save the Six Realms is not you.”
“What! Then who is it?”
“It’s your offspring.”
“…” This must be a joke.
“Wait!” Jiang Ran was utterly confused. “I don’t remember having any children.” She hadn’t even had a boyfriend.
“I know!” The Heavenly Emperor, unsurprised, patted her shoulder. “On the day we summoned you, the medical immortal confirmed your body hasn’t borne any children. So…”
She coughed, clearing her throat, and with utmost seriousness said,
“Brave girl, for the sake of the Six Realms, hurry up and find a Dao partner to practice dual cultivation!”
“…”
“If you have no idea where to start, don’t worry. I can recommend many suitable candidates. Here, take this list of unmarried male immortals in the Immortal Realm.” She handed over a thick album.
“…”
“Of course, it’s not limited to the Immortal Realm. Any unmarried talent across the Six Realms, regardless of status, race, or background—if you fancy them, I’ll arrange for them immediately.”
“…”
Damn it!
