Ron’s Journey Through Remnant

Chapter 33: 30- Small hunt and Talk

Team GRAM was flying with Team RWBY in a plane with Dr.Oobleck, who was talking about some important and useless and Gaster always questioning him about everything didn't help things until they arrived.

As the two teams stepped off the plane into the abandoned streets of Mountain Glenn. The once-bustling city now lay in ruins, its skeletal buildings cloaked in shadow. Despite the foreboding atmosphere, Dr. Oobleck's rapid-fire monologue continued unabated.

[Dr. Oobleck]: Ah, Mountain Glenn! A tragic example of human hubris, is it not? It was established as an ambitious expansion of Vale, only to fall prey to its arrogance and unpreparedness. Fascinating, isn't it? The Grimm overwhelmed it, and now it stands as a haunting reminder—oh, but do you know the population statistics prior to its fall? Quite enlightening!

Adrian, sipping from his travel mug, muttered under his breath.

[Adrian]: Enlightening isn't the word I'd use…

Gaster, with his notebook in hand, diligently scribbled notes.

[Gaster]: Fascinating indeed. Please, continue, Doctor.

Maple leaned over to Ruby, whispering with wide eyes.

[Maple]: Does he ever stop talking?

Ruby stifled a laugh, glancing at the hyperactive professor.

[Ruby]: Not really. But you kinda get used to it… eventually.

Ron, ever the stoic, surveyed their surroundings with a sharp eye.

[Ron]: Focus. This place may be abandoned, but that doesn't mean it's safe.

Dr. Oobleck paused just long enough to take a sip from his thermos before pointing towards the shattered skyline.

[Dr. Oobleck]: Excellent observation, Mr. Ron! Indeed, Mountain Glenn is a prime example of—oh, I'm getting sidetracked! Teams, your mission is twofold: to secure this area for further exploration and to investigate any unusual Grimm activity. Remain vigilant! Now, let us proceed, RUBY, RON I thought I told you to leave all your bags back at school.

[Ron]: This is an emergency pack—food and weapons. We're in a dangerous and unknown place. Preparation is key.

[Ruby]: Besides, you hadn't told us to listen to you yet… so, I didn't!

The teams exchanged glances, unsure whether to laugh or groan at Ruby's logic.

[Dr. Oobleck]: They're not wrong, Very well Ruby and Ron leave your bag here we can pick it up upon our return.

[Ron]: Ok

[Ruby]: But I—wh…

[Dr. Oobleck]: Young lady what in the world could you possibly have in that bag that could be so important to bring with you...,

Before he could finish, Ruby's bag rustled. A small head popped out, revealing a corgi, her cheerful corgi. The sight stunned both teams into silence. Adrian took an instinctive step back, nearly spilling his coffee.

[Adrian]: Is… is that a dog?!

[Ruby]: (whispering) Get back in the bag! Back in the bag!

[Dr. Oobleck]: We're here to investigate an abandoned urban jungle teaming with death and hostility and you brought a dog

[Ruby]: I… uh…

With sudden exuberance, Dr. Oobleck snatched the corgi from Ruby's bag and began spinning in joyous circles, holding the bewildered corgi aloft like a prized artifact.

[Dr. Oobleck]: GENIUS! K9s are historically known for their perceptive poise and heightened sense of sound, making them excellent companions for hunts such as ours!

Ruby puffed out her chest, grinning from ear to ear.

[Ruby]: I am a genius!

Her triumphant declaration was met with a collective facepalm from everyone—except Gaster, who was too busy scribbling down notes in his ever-present notebook.

[Blake]: So, what are your orders, Doctor?

[Dr. Oobleck]: Ah, yes! Straight to the chase! I like it.

He abruptly dropped the dog, who landed gracefully on his feet, tail wagging.

[Dr. Oobleck]: You've been informed that the southeast area has been marked as a recent hotspot for Grimm activity. Now, there are several possible explanations for this behavior, one of which being… Grimm.

Everyone exchanged confused glances, except for Gaster, who remained engrossed in his notes.

[Gaster]: (without looking up) He means the Grimm that's approximately 100 yards behind us at this moment.

Team RWBY instantly prepared for combat, weapons drawn and stances ready. In contrast, Team GRAM calmly readied their weapons but didn't assume immediate battle stances.

[Dr. Oobleck]: Stop! There are a number of reasons why Grimm would congregate in this particular area. The most likely explanation is their attraction to negativity—sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred—all qualities that are likely emanating from a hidden group harboring ill intent.

[Ruby]: So… what now?

[Dr. Oobleck]: We wait. We track. If this specimen leads us to its pack, that pack may subsequently lead us to our prey.

[Yang]: How long do we wait

[Dr. Oobleck]: Uncertain hours, days, weeks why lone Grimm have been known to stay.., and there is the whole pack

[Weiss]: What?

[Dr. Oobleck]: And now they've seen us.

[Weiss]: What?

[Gaster]: Slowpoke, They have seen us get ready for a battle.., and it's done

Gaster said as he looked at his flying hands and the Rest of team GRAM that were destroying the Grimm pack, team RWBY also joined in.

[sometime later]

[Ron]: That is the last of them

[Adrian]: Finally I have run out of coffee.

[Dr. Oobleck]: Excellent work everyone, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any signs of criminal operations in the sector, oh well moving on

As they continued scouting the ruined city, Dr. Oobleck began probing both teams with his trademark rapid-fire questions.

[With Adrian]

Dr. Oobleck approached Adrian, walking briskly beside him.

[Dr. Oobleck]: Tell me, Adrian, why does a young and talented man like you want to become a Huntsman?

Adrian paused for a moment, staring into his empty coffee mug.

[Adrian]: Well, Doctor, you see, I was a slave.

Dr. Oobleck froze mid-step, his usual energetic demeanor momentarily subdued. Adrian continued.

[Adrian]: Every day, I was handed from one person to another, forced to fight for their amusement, or beaten for fun. They even made me wear a hot iron collar to mark me forever.

He clenched his fist, his voice steady but heavy with resolve.

[Adrian]: So, I want to make sure no one ever gets put in chains or collars again.

[Dr. Oobleck]: (muttering) My word...

Adrian walked ahead, leaving the professor uncharacteristically quiet.

[With Maple]

Maple crushed the last Grimm under her shield with a decisive blow.

[Dr. Oobleck]: So, Miss Kijin, why does a girl like you aspire to be a Huntress?

She turned to him, adjusting her shield as she caught her breath.

[Maple]: Well, I don't want to get hurt… or for the people I care about to get hurt.

Her voice wavered slightly as she continued.

[Maple]: A long time ago, I lost people who were important to me. I couldn't do anything to stop it. So now, I'll fight to make sure I can protect those I care about.

[Dr. Oobleck]: (scribbling furiously in his notebook)

[With Ron]

Ron was sharpening his weapon, his gaze fixed on the horizon.

[Dr. Oobleck]: And you, Mr. Ron? What drives you to become a Huntsman?

[Ron]: (without looking up) To make sure no one ends up like Adrian—or like me. That's all.

[Dr. Oobleck]: (pausing for a moment)

[With Gaster]

Gaster was seated on a ruined pillar looking at RWBY and her dog playing, and flipping through his notebook as he spoke.

[Dr. Oobleck]: Mr. Gaster, your intellect is exceptional, but what is your reason for pursuing this dangerous path?

[Gaster]: Knowledge and legacy.

[Dr. Oobleck]: Legacy?

[Gaster]: (looking up briefly) To leave behind something meaningful. To understand this world, its mysteries, and its people. And… (he hesitated for a moment) …to ensure the sacrifices of those before me weren't in vain.

Dr. Oobleck looked at him and RWBY and then he threw his bag at Adrian

[Dr. Oobleck]: You six set up a camp in that building and make sure there are no more of these creatures your leaders and I are going to secure the perimeter, Ruby and Gaster come on

The remaining members of Teams GRAM and RWBY watched Gaster and Ruby follow Dr. Oobleck into the shadows of the ruined city.

[Yang]: So… any bets on how many notebooks Gaster fills during this mission?

[Adrian]: More than I've had coffee, that's for sure.

[Maple]: Adrian. We need to focus on making this camp safe first.

[Blake]: She's right. Let's get to work.

The two teams divided tasks: Adrian and Ron took the lead in clearing any lingering Grimm, while Yang and Blake secured the perimeter of the chosen building. Maple and Weiss began fortifying the interior, making sure there were no weak points.
