Ron’s Journey Through Remnant

Chapter 32: 29-The Regrets and a Mission

As Team GRAM strolled down the hallway, Talking about their regrets and life.

[Adrian]: So, Gaster... have you ever regretted what you did to them?

Gaster, engrossed in his notebook, paused. Slowly, his gaze drifted to the ceiling.

[Gaster]: Regret... It's a foreign feeling for someone like me. But yes, there's one thing I regret. Just one. And it haunts me still.

[Gaster]: What about you, Ron? Any regrets?

Ron turned to his team and said

[Ron]: Regrets? I've had my share. But if I had to name one... I didn't take the time to learn all my brothers' and sisters' names.

[Gaster]: Don't you only have a brother and a sister?

[Ron]: No, I had many, but I only know of several. The rest were unknown. I also know that my mother gave birth to only ten. The rest were grown using a blood seed. It's a process that uses the blood of two people to produce a child. No womb, no mother's touch. Just... life.

Gaster's notebook was out instantly, the pen in his hand moving almost as fast as his thoughts.

[Gaster]: Fascinating. A blood seed, you say? Tell me more. What's the process? What are the implications for genetic stability? Emotional bonds? Do they function like—

[Adrian]: Gaster.

Gaster looked at his team members and then at Ron who had a 'Really' look

[Gaster]: Ah... my apologies, Ron. That was... insensitive.

Ron shook his head, his voice steady but distant.

[Ron]: It's fine. Curiosity isn't a crime, Gaster. Besides, it's not like I've got all the answers. Most of what I know about the blood seeds comes from scraps of information.

He stopped walking entirely, turning to face his team.

[Ron]: The blood-seed children… they weren't treated the same. They were tools, soldiers, and experiments. Even among us, there was a divide. Some were valued, others discarded, and some were even turned into food at the cafeteria.

[Adrian]: That's... horrible. Cruel doesn't even begin to cover it.

Adrian's usual lighthearted demeanor was replaced by a rare seriousness.

[Gaster]: Ron, let me repeat this for clarity—your mother is so mad and insane that I legitimately fear her.

The team exchanged uneasy glances until Maple, ever unpredictable, tilted her head and broke the tension in her peculiar way.

[Maple]: How did they taste?

The bluntness of her question caused Gaster and Adrian to instinctively step back, their faces contorting with disbelief.

Ron blinked at Maple, unfazed by her curiosity. After a moment, he answered as though discussing the weather.

[Ron]: They had a good taste. Not too salty, not too sweet. The seasoning was balanced, I'll give them that.

Adrian's jaw dropped, while Gaster adjusted his glasses, muttering something inaudible as he flipped open his notebook to jot down something.

[Adrian]: That's... I don't even know what to say anymore.

[Gaster]: I do: Maple, remind me never to leave you alone near my lab... or the cafeteria.

Maple gave a nonchalant shrug, her curiosity seemingly satisfied.

[Maple]: What? I was just asking. It's not like I'm planning a taste test or anything.

The tension broke into an awkward chuckle from Ron, a sign that he wasn't entirely devoid of humor despite the grim nature of the conversation.

[Ron]: You all react as if I'm the strange one. Trust me, that was just the beginning of what we considered 'normal.'

The team fell into an uneasy silence, the weight of Ron's words settling over them. They continued down the hallway, their footsteps echoing faintly. When they finally reached the amphitheater, the sight that greeted them was overwhelming: the room was packed with students from all the academies, their chatter blending into a chaotic hum.

The monitors display maps and mission details, and the members of Team GRAM settled into their habits.

Gaster, ever the scientist, examined the blood seed Ron had handed him earlier, his fingers turning it over as he muttered notes under his breath.

Adrian sipped his coffee, his green eyes scanning the crowd lazily, looking for any signs of trouble—or amusement.

Maple, meanwhile, had drifted off to chat with her friends from other teams, her gestures and laughter drawing a small circle of admirers.

The amphitheater fell quiet as Ozpin's voice echoed through the space. His speech about the tenuous peace they fought to maintain and the ever-present shadow of war.

When his words finally concluded, the students began moving again, and Team GRAM made their way to one of the monitors to select a mission.

Before they could decide, a familiar figure approached them. Ozpin, with his ever-present mug in hand, stepped gracefully through the crowd, his sharp eyes focused on Gaster and the team.

[Ozpin]: If I may, Mr. Gaster, I have a request.

Gaster turned, raising an eyebrow as he carefully pocketed the blood seed.

[Gaster]: A request, Headmaster? You have our attention.

Ozpin nodded, his tone measured but firm.

[Ozpin]: I need you and your team to assist Miss Rose and her team on their mission. It's a matter of... importance.

The members of Team GRAM exchanged glances, each silently weighing the request. Adrian took a final sip of his coffee before speaking.

[Adrian]: Miss Rose? That's Ruby, right? What kind of mission are we talking about here?

[Ozpin]: One that requires the unique skills your team possesses. I trust you'll find it... engaging.

Maple returned from her conversation, her curiosity piqued.

[Maple]: Guess we're working with Team RWBY, huh? This should be fun.

Ron remained silent, his gaze fixed on Ozpin. Finally, he gave a slight nod.

[Ron]: We'll do it. Just tell us what needs to be done.

[Ozpin]: Thank you. A Huntsman will brief you alongside Miss Rose and her team shortly. For now, prepare yourselves.

With a nod of acknowledgment, Ozpin turned and walked away, his new coffee mug in hand. As his figure disappeared into the crowd, Adrian's brows furrowed, and he glanced left and right suspiciously.

[Adrian]: Wait a second… Did he just steal my coffee cup?

The team's attention shifted to Adrian's empty hand, which was still raised as if holding his favorite mug.

[Gaster]: Hmm, it seems he's mastered the art of strategic mug acquisition. Impressive.

Gaster then glanced at the note Ozpin had discreetly left in his pocket. Reading it, his expression shifted from curiosity to mild offense.

[Gaster]: Oh, and he left me a note. It says, 'Please refrain from blowing up half the kingdom.' For the record, I'm capable of destroying only 20%, maybe 25% if I push it, but certainly no more.

Maple raised an eyebrow at Gaster's casual admission but didn't comment, too amused by Adrian's outraged muttering.

[Adrian]: That was my favorite mug. Do you know how hard it is to find one that keeps the coffee at the perfect temperature?

Ron, always practical, cut through the banter with a simple nod.

[Ron]: Let's just head to the briefing location. I don't want to miss the first mission.

He turned on his heel and began walking, his calm demeanor urging the others to follow. Adrian reluctantly let go of his grudge, muttering about coffee thieves under his breath, while Gaster carefully pocketed the note and Maple bounced along, already excited for what lay ahead.

[Student]: Hey, Team CFVY is back!

A small group of students excitedly ran past Team GRAM toward the newly returned team,

their eyes fell on Team RWBY, deep in conversation. Standing beside them was Velvet Scarlatina, the ever-cheerful Faunus from Team CFVY.

The moment Velvet spotted Gaster, her eyes lit up, and she hurried over to him, her ears twitching with excitement.

[Velvet]: Gaster! How have you been?

Gaster blinked in surprise at her sudden enthusiasm but quickly offered a polite smile.

[Gaster]: I've been fine, thank you. And you? Your mission took an extra week to complete. Are you alright?

The genuine concern in his voice made Velvet's cheeks flush slightly, and she gave a small, grateful nod.

[Velvet]: Oh, yes! I'm fine. Nothing happened—really! Just a bit of a delay. Thank you for asking, though.

Her words came out in a rush, and before anyone could respond, she quickly added, "Anyway, see you around, bye!" and darted off.

Maple tilted her head, watching Velvet's hasty retreat.

[Maple]: Well, that was... quick.

Adrian chuckled, leaning toward Maple as he whispered conspiratorially.

[Adrian]: Looks like someone's got a soft spot for our dear scientist.

Gaster ignored the comment as he was been held at sword point by a White hair girl, Meanwhile, a certain blonde from Team RWBY crossed her arms, her gaze narrowing as she watched Velvet vanish down the hall.

[Yang]: Was it just me, or did she seem way too happy to see him?

Ruby tugged at Yang's sleeve, trying to steer the conversation back on track.

[Ruby]: Focus, Yang! We've got a mission to prepare for!

[Ron]: "Well, Ruby, it's your lucky day. It seems we've been assigned to the same mission."

Ruby's eyes lit up, her excitement practically radiating off her as she clasped her hands together.

[Ruby]: "Does that mean we'll have the strongest team and a Huntsman on this mission? That's so cool!"

Her imagination was clearly running wild, already picturing epic battles and heroic teamwork. But before anyone could share in her enthusiasm, an energetic voice shattered her dreamlike moment.

[Oobleck]: Ah, splendid! A mission with not one, but two teams and myself as your illustrious guide! Who's ready for an adventure?

Dr. Oobleck zipped into view, his thermos in one hand and a manic grin on his face.

The room fell silent for a beat as everyone processed the sight of him. Adrian and Gaster exchanged a glance, their expressions an equal mix of disbelief and resignation.

[Adrian/Gaster]: I'm going to need more coffee.

Adrian immediately began rummaging through his bag, searching for his emergency stash, while Gaster, always prepared, pulled out a flask he kept for just such occasions. Maple stifled a giggle, while Ron sighed, his patience already being tested.

Ruby, ever the optimist, forced a smile as she looked up at the eccentric Huntsman.

[Ruby]: Well… at least it'll be memorable, right?

[Yang]: Yeah, memorable. That's one way to put it.
