Chapter 200: Tricks
Mana pills, that was the name of the final product Ange and Davi managed to create after the long period they spent inside the dungeon.
In truth, Ange still planned to make much more, and even those pills weren't 100% functional yet. In fact, the one she had given Davi was the only one she had successfully produced.
Thanks to it, Davi managed to recover his mana quickly, catching his father off guard and dealing him a grievous wound.
Taking advantage of that moment, he furiously charged forward, intending to pierce his father's heart and end the fight with a single strike.
But before he could close the distance, an avalanche of lightning erupted around Norman, blasting him away.
Norman's eyes glowed with a deep violet light as the electricity condensed into a new form. He had activated his most powerful ability: <Thunder Beast>.
A bluish electric aura engulfed his body, giving him claws and the tail of a monster.
"So he finally used it…" Davi muttered, a shiver running down his spine.
Amelia had fought Norman once before. She knew those twisted abilities of his, and before the fight, she made sure to tell Davi everything. That was why he understood why his father always hesitated to use that skill.
As overwhelming as it was, the technique came with a price: a strict time limit. Five minutes, to be exact. And once the time ran out, Norman would be completely drained and left in utter exhaustion.
For the first time in the entire battle, the clock was ticking in Davi's favor.
He had already survived this long against that monster… If he could just hold on for five more minutes, he could…
Davi lost an arm.
His optimism lasted less than a heartbeat. Suddenly, something cold and sharp tore through him, so fast his mind needed a moment to catch up.
The world seemed to fall silent. He only understood what had happened when he saw his blood staining the ground.
Norman's axe had swung in a perfect arc, far too fast for his eyes to follow. If not for the instinctive reflex that made him twist his body to the right at the last second, it wouldn't have been just his arm; his whole body would have been cleaved in two.
Without giving him even a breath to recover, Norman lunged again with killing intent.
"Damn brat, I'll kill you!" he roared. "How dare you use such a cheap trick? You don't have a shred of honor in your soul!"
Davi teleported away, not even seeing his father's strike, but trusting that it was the best possible reaction.
"Damn it…" the boy muttered, then conjured flames to cauterize the wound, adding a basic healing spell to try and seal it.
Even so, his face twisted in pain, and his vision was already beginning to blur. The wound was far too severe.
"Just hold on a little longer…" he whispered to himself, renewing his determination.
Soon enough, his father was already closing in again, attacking with ferocious speed. Davi teleported away once more, then grabbed three small spheres from his belt and hurled them at his father.
Three massive explosions thundered across the arena, giving Davi a precious moment to breathe.
"Damn you! How many pathetic tricks do you still have left?!" Norman roared.
With a single swing of his massive axe, he tore through the wall of flames, scattering them like paper in a storm.
The impact shook the ground, unleashing a shockwave of lightning that surged outward in violent waves, crackling and tearing the arena apart as it spread in every direction.
Using Silvia's <Creation> skill, Davi made a thick rubber shield to try to protect himself from the spreading lightning, but the electricity easily burned through the rubber and hit him.
"Well, that was a bad idea…" he sighed, then turned to his father with a mocking smile. "Father, you were the one who set the rules. Remember, we can use any weapon we wish. It's not my fault that you didn't come prepared."
Davi appeared just behind his father and threw the remaining five bombs he had. Then, before his father could react, he teleported away, evading his attack.
However, the boy knew his weapons couldn't do much damage to his father, unless he managed to take him by surprise.
Taking this into account, he decided not to carry many useless weapons. The boy drank a regeneration potion, and with that, he had used practically all of his items.
But something very important remained. He stroked the bluish sphere attached to a bracelet on his wrist, which he had worn since the beginning of the battle.
Finally, the boy used <Excavate> beneath his feet and removed a block of earth.
Amelia watched it all, impressed, and held back her desire to intervene. She hadn't expected Davi to be capable of pressuring his father so much. Seeing the confident look in his eyes, she began to believe in the boy's plan.
Just don't die, she thought, letting out a soft sigh.
Back in the arena, Norman was approaching aggressively. Because of this, the boy was forced to teleport away. For a while, he continued moving around constantly, but teleporting so much was quickly draining his mana. Unfortunately, he wouldn't last five minutes that way.
He took a deep breath, and suddenly everything around him began to freeze. Davi activated <Ice Magic> at the maximum power he could muster. The ground beneath his feet began to freeze in a circular pattern that soon spread throughout the entire arena. Thick walls of ice rose around him, which he hoped would buy him at least a few seconds against his father.
But none of it stopped Norman. The man tore through almost all the ice with a single strike and continued advancing, furious, like an unstoppable beast.
Soon, he realized that Davi was concentrating all the ice into a single point, molding it into a protective layer, an improvised cocoon. Norman frowned, irritated, and decided to smash that defense with all his strength.
He gripped his axe with both hands and let out a deafening roar. Lightning fell from the sky and concentrated on the blade, enveloping it in a storm of raw energy. The metal vibrated intensely, charged with so much power it seemed on the verge of shattering.
Then, he charged. Each step made the ground shake until, finally, the blow fell.
The impact was devastating. The ice cocoon exploded into thousands of glittering shards, but…
A blue flash erupted from within the debris, followed by a colossal wave of electricity. The discharge hit Norman head-on.
The man normally took almost no damage from electrical abilities, but that lightning storm was so powerful that it broke through the defenses of his transformation, hitting him with enough force to elicit a roar of pain from his throat.
Electricity danced over his body, burning his skin in a cloud of smoke, while his muscles contracted uncontrollably and his eyes rolled back in his head.
