Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 261: Complaining That Zombies are Weak

In the morning, the temperature had dropped even further and it seemed that if the trend of dropping temperature like that at night continued, snow would begin to fall in less than two days.

Thinking of this, Leng Pan decided to go out and hunt for zombies one more time. It had been a long time since she and Lu Zhen went out to train and kill zombies for the fun of it.

She decided that after breakfast, she won't bother about anything else and instead would take Lu Zhen out to go and look for zombies to fight.

They may get lucky out there and find some supplies or something rare.

Therefore, when she went to the other apartment to have breakfast with the whole family, she informed them about her decision.

Lu Zhen didn't need prior warning because he would follow his wife wherever she wanted to go.

Leng Pan strapped on her boots and adjusted her coat. The chill in the air seeped into her bones even through layers of clothing, reminding her that the apocalypse was not only about zombies but also about enduring the harshness of nature.

Under all those layers of clothes, she was wearing the constant temperature suits her mother-in-law had made from the material she bought before the apocalypse.

However, the cold could still be felt. She wondered how those who didn't have something like that feel.

Lu Zhen quietly checked his weapons, slipping a hunting knife into his belt and slinging a gun over his shoulder.

He also took his usual Miao sword and strapped it to his back.

"You know Baby, it feels like forever since we went out together like this, just to train and get some action." He said with a dotting smile as he tightened the strap.

Leng Pan's lips curled slightly. "We've been busy investigating our past and those experiments that our toes barely touched the ground.

We deserve some fun too to unwind from all that tension."

When she said fun, anyone else would have thought of board games or telling jokes, but to them, fun meant smashing zombies, testing their skills, and seeing who could kill more.

This had become their new reality and they had accepted it. Especially after regaining their memories, they knew that the world would probably be in such a broken state for a long time.

Thus, they couldn't live their lives on edge everyday.

They left the apartment building together. The streets were unnaturally quiet that morning, blanketed in mist that made the air damp and heavy.

Leng Pan thought that her thoughts had been right. The weather was changing every day without warning. The mist wasn't there the previous day, but today, one could barely see twenty meters ahead.

It showed how drastic things were.

Because of the situation with the weather and visibility, they decided to walk and hunt on foot.

They couldn't drive a car or ride their motorcycles.

The further the temperature dropped, the fewer ordinary people dared to come outside. Most survivors were holed up, burning through their dwindling supplies.

But they could see some people making their way ahead of them. Even though they were bundled up completely, she could still tell that one of them was their neighbor, Juan Ke.

Leng Pan wondered where he was going and what he was going to do. However, because she had decided that the whole day belonged to her husband and herself, she didn't alert Juan Ke and just let him leave.

But while humans huddled at home and hid themselves, zombies didn't hide from the cold.

As soon as they turned down the main road, they spotted a cluster of ten zombies staggering near an abandoned bus.

The sight made Leng Pan's eyes shine with anticipation. She thought that after the military passed by their area announcing the construction of the safe base and killing a lot of zombies in passing, there wouldn't be zombies nearby.

But it looked like she had been wrong. These undead would never be absent no matter how much they kill.

"Warm-up?" She turned to Lu Zhen and asked casually.

Only she would take killing zombies as a type of warm-up exercise.

Lu Zhen nodded with a smile, letting her take the lead.

Leng Pan darted forward like a predator, her twin swords gleaming with a cold gray light. With swift movements, she decapitated two zombies before they could even react.

Lu Zhen covered her flank, knocking another back with a clean shot to the head.

There weren't many of them, so Lu Zhen just let his wife have fun and stayed behind to take care of any strays.

The couple moved in sync, without saying a word to each other but were perfectly attuned.

Each strike flowed into the next, the sound of flesh being torn and bones cracking filling the silence inside the mist.

In less than two minutes, all ten zombies lay sprawled on the ground.

Leng Pan walked to each of them and cut open their heads, retrieving crystal cores and throwing them into the space bangle.

Leng Pan crouched, spreading her palm and allowing water to flow from it to clean her blades.

"Too easy," she complained, muttering under her breath while looking unsatisfied.

If anyone else heard her say that, they would probably curse her to death. People were hoping for the zombies to be easy to kill while she was complaining about it.

Comparison could really kill. It was better not to compare with people who had potential to be monsters.

"You're the only person I know who complains when zombies aren't strong enough," Lu Zhen said dryly, but his eyes carried amusement.

The two continued deeper into the city, passing abandoned shops and crumbling buildings. Every so often, they checked alleys or overturned vehicles for useful items.

They had realized that even the most useless scrap could become gold in the future. This was the experience they had with the apocalypse in their past lives.

So, they had decided that since they were on foot anyway, they might as well not leave any stone unturned.
