Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 252: Janna, Juan Ke, and Xu Man's Choice

"Whatever, go and prepare for the mission. I'll see you guys when you come back." The mature woman known as Momo said as she stood up and went to her room to rest as well.

The others watched her as she walked away and sighed. Being older really had its advantages, even at the end of the world.

Leng Pan and Lu Zhen had dinner with their family and as they sat down in the living room for tea as usual, there was a knock at the door.

Lu Tao turned to look and used his X-ray vision to see who was at the door and found Juan Ke, Xu Man, and Janna standing outside the door.

"It's Juan Ke, Janna and that guy who lives with his extended family." Lu Tao said and everyone understood who he was talking about.

Even though the other guy they went to collect supplies with lived with his family, but it was only his wife and kids, and from what they had gathered, he seemed to have decided to join the safe base owned by the military.

So, it was obvious who he was talking about.

"Go and let them in." Leng Pan said to her brother-in-law.

Hearing such instructions, Lu Tao got up and went to open the door before letting the three inside the house.

"Good evening everyone." Juan Ke greeted the family as soon as he walked in. The others followed suit and the Lu family replied in unison.

"Good evening. Come and sit down. Have some tea." Auntie Li welcomed the visitors and went to the kitchen to get more cups.

Xu Man wanted to refuse but seeing that Juan Ke didn't say anything, he also kept silent and sat down.

Juan Ke was very adept in reading people. He could tell that the Lu family wasn't just being polite when they invited them for tea. They meant it and if they refused, it would be equivalent to turning down their good will.

So, he didn't refuse. Moreover, with the current situation and resources slowly becoming scarce, it wasn't easy to get a cup of good tea.

From the fragrance, he could tell that what was on the table was high quality tea that was hard to come by even before the apocalypse.

So, he had no intention of turning down the offer.

After the few of them sat down and got a cup of tea each, only then did Li Yunjia ask them why they had come.

The three looked at each other and it looked like Juan Ke was appointed the spokesperson.

"We were wondering whether your family is forming a team to fight against zombies and collect supplies.

We would like to join if such a team exists." Juan Ke knew that the few people in this family didn't like tricks, so he was very straightforward.

"Why didn't you go to the safe base with the others? Isn't that safer and more stable?" Leng Pan was the one who asked this question.

For the three of them to stay behind and not follow the rest of the crowd to go to the safe base, it shouldn't have been an easy decision.

"It might sound reliable now, but a single base is going to be the home of all kinds of people from different walks of life.

There will be thieves, leaders, students, disabled, and other types of people mixed together.

In this kind of environment, life will be no different from living in the slums. I think its better to take the risk of working in a team if fewer people but at least live like humans.

Life is already hard with the lack of all kinds of amenities that we were used to before. If we end up living like livestock, then I think it's better to be among those who turned into mindless zombies that can't think." Juan Ke was extremely honest.

It was obvious that he wasn't looking for an easy way out. He was aware that staying out of the safe base meant more danger, but he was ready to face it as long as he had some semblance of a normal life.

The Lu family members looked at each other and felt in their hearts that Juan Ke was someone worth befriending.

"What about you two?" Lu Zhen asked Janna and Xu Man who had been quietly sipping their tea.

"My decision is the same as Uncle Juan. I don't want to live an ignorant life even if the world is ending. I want to contribute something to humanity.

But I have a feeling that if I go to the safe base, I will just become one of the many people just existing in this world without any worth or use.

My grandparents wouldn't want me to live like that. So, I chose to stay behind and join you when you go to kill zombies." Janna explained her reasons for staying behind.

"But, I am sure that the safe base will form teams to go out and kill zombies and collect supplies. Isn't it the same if you joined a team there?" Leng Pan asked as she wanted to understand why this young girl really stayed behind.

"It's true that the government will definitely form teams there. But who will really want a kid in their team? Most people will only see me as a poor, useless orphan and wouldn't want to be associated with me.

And those who take notice of me will probably only want to take advantage of me. So, I would rather join you because I know that you will treat me as an equal teammate as long as I work hard." Janna was really a brave and thoughtful girl even at such a young age. Leng Pan had to admire her for her courage as well.

Very few young girls would make the choice she made. Many would be like Bai Yinyin waiting for others to protect them and take care of their needs.
