Chapter 71: Mysterious Organization
Meng Yun knew that he and Duan Gujin were able to defeat that man earlier due to a large portion of luck.
They had such good luck the last time, but it doesn't mean they will have the same next time.
As Duan Gujin said, what if the next enemy isn't lecherous? Then they would have no chance of defeating him.
"What kind of divine entity was that man?"
Duan Gujin pondered seriously for a moment; after a while, he recalled a legend he had heard in his previous life.
He hadn't thought about this legend before because he didn't think too much about it and assumed he had only encountered a Cannibal Wolf.
"Could the man we just annihilated be the Corpse-eating Poison Father who caused disasters in Qiankun Country in the past?"
In his last life, when he returned to Qiankun Country and was passing by a tavern, he accidentally heard about the Corpse-eating Poison Father.
People at the tavern were talking about how a man controlled a large pack of wolves to attack some cities in Qiankun Country, and once a city was taken, that man would let the pack devour corpses or living people.
Thus, that man was called the Corpse-eating Poison Father.
It was said that the Corpse-eating Poison Father was once an Alchemist, who later betrayed his Master. To seek revenge, he committed massacres in cities.
Thus, the Corpse-eating Poison Father became an abomination to gods and men alike.
"Unfortunately, in my last life, I only returned to Country Gulai, where the Corpse-eating Poison Father did no harm, so I did not investigate more about him!"
Duan Gujin took a deep breath, uncertain whether the man they had just killed was the Corpse-eating Poison Father who would massacre the city five years later. If so, he would have prevented a catastrophe for the people of Qiankun Country.
"I hope the one I just eliminated is the Corpse-eating Poison Father!"
Duan Gujin took a deep breath, and he and Meng Yun continued to move forward.
Along the way, although they saw many Cannibal Wolves, those wolves did not notice them, and they easily avoided them.
They continued for more than ten kilometers when suddenly, they noticed a dock appearing on the coast ahead.
They sneaked over cautiously to get a closer look.
After a while, they saw several large ships docked at the pier.
Among them, at least a hundred people disembarked from one of the large ships.
After observing for a while, Duan Gujin ascertained that among those hundred people, more than ninety were likely those captured and brought here.
Judging by the attire of those ninety-plus people, Duan Gujin deduced they were peasants, as their clothes were mostly tattered and worn.
Among the large group, there were very few people whose clothing was somewhat neat.
The other ten-plus people, Duan Gujin deduced, were likely the ones who had captured the other ninety or so people and brought them here.
Duan Gujin's eyes flickered; he assessed that the people who appeared here were definitely no ordinary people.
"Let's sneak up closer!"
Duan Gujin whispered to Meng Yun.
Meng Yun nodded slightly, and then snuck over with him.
When they got close to the pier, Duan Gujin and Meng Yun followed behind the hundred or so people.
They traveled for about a kilometer, and soon, they saw a bridge appearing ahead.
"Why is there a bridge here?"
Duan Gujin thought about the local terrain and took a sharp breath.
He deduced that ahead must be the lair of that group, and the only way to enter or exit the lair was via the bridge in front of them.
"If there are many Cannibal Wolves under that bridge, it's very possible!"
Duan Gujin's eyes glittered; although there was no Illusion Array here, if the only exit was through a single bridge, then they had to pass over that bridge.
But by doing so, they could easily reveal their position.
"This place is easy to defend but hard to attack!"
Duan Gujin's mind raced, as he pondered ways to cross that bridge.
But after a long thought, he was still completely confused and couldn't think of any good method.
If he and Meng Yun crossed that bridge together, it would easily attract the enemy's attention.
"I can't think of any way!"
After a while, Duan Gujin gave up.
"Let's just walk around nearby and see what the situation is here," Meng Yun said.
"Okay!"
So, Duan Gujin took Meng Yun and ran to the front of that bridge.
Soon, Duan Gujin saw that on one end of the bridge there was a steep cliff, and below the cliff, there was a pool of stagnant water.
He quickly took out a piece of meat from the storage ring and threw it directly into the pool of stagnant water.
After a while, they saw a large number of fish coming out of the water and frantically tearing at the meat.
"It's piranhas!"
Duan Gujin observed for a while and recognized that the fish were piranhas.
Hearing Duan Gujin's words, Meng Yun gasped.
At first, she thought there might be Cannibal Wolves lurking underwater, but it turned out to be piranhas instead.
However, whether it was piranhas or Cannibal Wolves, they couldn't possibly dive into the water and then enter from the bottom.
To figure out more about the environment, Duan Gujin and Meng Yun proceeded in another direction.
An hour later, they saw that ahead there was the same cliff, and on the other side was another pool of stagnant water.
"It seems we really have no play here!"
Duan Gujin sighed.
"Right!"
At this point, they could only choose to go back.
Just as they were on their way back, they saw six people in black clothes walking out from that bridge.
Duan Gujin's mind stirred, and he thought of getting information about this place from those six people.
So, he and Meng Yun followed behind those six people.
After following for a while, Duan Gujin judged that the strength of the six people in front was not strong, their cultivation was at most at the Innate First Level.
He and Meng Yun decisively made a move, and in an instant, they captured them.
A moment later, Duan Gujin managed to extract some useful information from them, only then did he know that inside that bridge there was a large underground cave.
"My god! I didn't expect that there are actually people who have captured at least five hundred people to work here as forced labor! Once those laborers die, they will be thrown into the water to feed the fish!"
Hearing about such cruel deeds, Meng Yun wished she could tear the mastermind into thousands of pieces.
Duan Gujin, however, learned from those six people that the person he had killed before was not the leader here, but one of the four stewards under the leader.
"What kind of organization is this?"
Duan Gujin's eyes flickered, and he asked those six people more details about the leader and the other four stewards.
After a while, he learned that the leader here used to be an Alchemist, and these six people were merely servants they had captured to work for them.
These servants obviously wouldn't receive the true transmission; at most, they would learn some superficial skills suitable for heavy labor.
The reason why these six people had come out from the cave was that they needed to enter a large boat and transport the clean water they had obtained from outside into the cave.
"I have a plan!"
With a thought, Duan Gujin came up with a plan and quickly whispered it into Meng Yun's ear.
After hearing Duan Gujin's plan, Meng Yun pondered for a while and then agreed.
