Chapter 157: Dollhouse: Part Five
"Elder brother, how are we going to get out of this?" Fang Zheng asked even as the other clansmen created a ruckus behind the barrier. It was clear that Lord Sky Crane had the current advantage when it came to fighting and was likely going to kill first gen Gu Yue.
The barrier would naturally not last forever, and they needed a plan for what to do when it faded.
While Fang Yuan had killed many of Lord Sky Crane's flock, that had only been mostly possible when Lord Sky Crane hadn't actually been actively commanding them, and then there would be Lord Sky Crane himself to deal with.
"Bai Ning Bing," Fang Yuan said, turning to the man whose laughter had echoed throughout the village moments earlier. "I know that you have the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique."
Bai Ning Bing scoffed.
"And I also know that you're close to detonating," Fang Yuan said. "If I'm not wrong, that Rank 3 Stone Aperture Gu might have extended your time until now, but you've been fighting quite a lot, haven't you?"
"So what?" Bai Ning Bing asked. It was true; the stone walls of his aperture were already beginning to crack under the pressure of the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique. The pressure within was more than enough to eclipse the Rank 6 aura of the Spring Autumn Cicada.
"I have a way that you can deal with your problem," Fang Yuan said.
This piqued Bai Ning Bing's interest.
"But first, you will have to detonate. I have a way to bring you back," Fang Yuan said.
Bai Ning Bing frowned. "Is that how you came back?"
Fang Yuan shook his head, realizing that Bai Ning Bing had also fallen for his little ruse. "Also, the method to bring you back isn't entirely guaranteed. However, if it works, you should be able to come back."
"Should be?" Bai Ning Bing asked, frowning.
"It's a better chance than nothing," Fang Yuan said. "Can you control the direction in which you explode?"
"How can I possibly know that?" Bai Ning Bing snarled at him.
"Well, if you can, try to explode away from me and Fang Zheng," Fang Yuan said.
The battle outside raged, but Fang Yuan could do nothing about it other than preparing by replenishing his primeval essence - the use of the Blood Chariot Wheel even for a small amount of time had depleted nearly all of it.
Speaking of, the Blood Chariot Wheel was still lying there within the boundaries of the Blood Curtain Skyflower Gu and he picked it up.
Eventually, one side managed to win. Lord Sky Crane pierced first gen Gu Yue's brain, killing the zombie even as he cursed Fang Yuan, cursed Lord Sky Crane, and above all cursed fate for not favoring him and letting him fall into this situation in the first place.
Lord Sky Crane, of course, was not going to let them off, even if first gen Gu Yue was dead.
The barrier began to thin, and at that moment, Fang Yuan nodded toward Bai Ning Bing, who detonated just as the barrier vanished and Lord Sky Crane came down for the kill. A massive block of ice erupted from Bai Ning Bing, which avoided the area that Fang Yuan and Fang Zheng were in and covered the entire mountain in a thick layer of ice within a single breath of time.
Lord Sky Crane barely managed to avoid getting caught in the blast, backing away as most of his flock was killed off. He had not come out of his fight with first gen Gu Yue unscathed; he had numerous wounds and likely lacked primeval essence, though he would recover it all soon enough and then come after Fang Yuan and the rest of the Gu Yue clansmen.
Main mission successfully completed!
Defender of the Clan
First gen Gu Yue has been dealt with.
Reward: A will has been added along with a single bead of Rank 6 Immortal Essence (foreign) to your inventory.
Fang Yuan then unleashed the Yin part of Yin-Yang Rotation Gu at Bai Ning Bing, who was encased in a deep layer of ice.
Fang Yuan could no longer rely upon the Human Path methods he had earlier, as the wills of his clansmen were dissipating given their current condition.
'Perhaps there's a way to preserve their wills so that I can continue to use them even if they die or I leave them,' Fang Yuan thought to himself. There were several ways he could think of doing this, but he would need a few high-ranking Wisdom Path gu worms to do so.
Bai Ning Bing burst out of the ice, her aptitude reduced but still quite alive.
Secret mission completed!
It takes a real man to be best girl.
Reward: Purple Crystal Relic Gu (x1) has been added to your inventory.
As he prepared to withdraw his will and his drop of immortal essence to activate the Blood Chariot Wheel, something happened in his aperture.
'What's going on?' Fang Yuan thought.
His storage-type gu worm spat something out of his aperture and onto the ground. It was one of the paintings that Genesis Lotus Immortal Venerable had given him, which depicted a room filled with elaborate furniture that seemed to be too small for an adult.
This was the painting that Genesis Lotus Immortal Venerable had said was for someone other than Fang Yuan. It was apparently reacting to something now, as the room began to shimmer and shrink, revealing that it was just one room in a larger structure.
The image of a blue dollhouse appeared in the painting before it emerged, enlarging as it left the frame until it was nearly as big as the clan head's house. While most of it was painted blue, several of its walls were a bright pink color. It was three stories tall with multiple windows.
"What is this?" Lord Sky Crane wondered, bewildered. This was a Gu House, and not just any Gu House. A Rank 5 Gu House! He could sense the aura of multiple Rank 5 gu worms emanating from it. It looked like the structure contained thousands of gu worms! Even if they were all just mortal gu worms, this was still incredible in and of itself. "Where did a backwater clan like this manage to find something on this level?"
The house flew through the air for a moment before landing on the snowy terrain, sending small puffs of ice into the air. Its doors opened, and a hand reached out which grabbed Bai Ning Bing and pulled her inside before the doors closed shut.
The painting crumbled into tiny pieces before being carried away with the wind- its purpose now complete.
This painting had indeed not been intended for Fang Yuan, but had been intended for Bai Ning Bing all along!
