Chapter 194: Restart, Spider-Man! [194]
"Supreme Sorcerer."
At Wong's reminder, the Ancient One composed herself, her gaze sharpening.
"Bind it!"
With a sharp command, the gathered sorcerers formed intricate hand seals. Golden chains shot out, weaving tightly around the enormous eldritch Hydra projection.
Cackle, cackle~~
The Hydra struggled violently, its crimson tendrils writhing as if attempting to tear through space itself. Yet, under the suppression of the golden barrier, its power began to wane rapidly.
Seeing this, the Ancient One's fingers emitted a soft glow, flipping the entire dimensional battlefield.
Within the inverted realm, the sorcerers leapt gracefully onto floating circular platforms surrounding the Hydra. Their golden chains grew brighter, tightening around the massive entity and locking it in place.
"Buzz!"
The next moment, the Ancient One withdrew her energy, conjuring a glowing shield as she prepared to charge directly at the entity.
"Wait."
Xia Luo stepped in front of her. "Sorcerers are supposed to fight from a distance. Leave the brawling to me!"
The Ancient One: "..."
This damn Spider-Man! Always ruining my plans!
Under her exasperated gaze, Xia Luo transformed into a crackling arc of electricity and launched himself at the Hydra projection.
---
"Buzz~"
As Xia Luo's magic circle expanded, Carter and the other Avengers were transported into the dimensional space.
"Feed me!!"
Gwen, now enhanced by her symbiote, pounced onto one of the Hydra's massive crimson tendrils. Her demon-faced symbiote voraciously devoured the fleshy appendage.
"Don't you usually go for brains?" Xia Luo asked, swinging past.
Abby remained silent, leaving Gwen to shrug helplessly. "Don't ask me—I have no idea."
"Well, good luck, then."
Xia Luo shot his web and swung onward. Nearby, Johnny Blaze, engulfed in flames, had coiled himself around another tendril. While his hellfire was ineffective against the Hydra, he continued blasting flames to show he was putting in effort.
Reed and the Fantastic Four weren't faring much better. Their attacks hardly made a dent against the otherworldly projection.
The Hydra projection, even with just a fraction of dimensional power, was leagues above the Avengers' combined abilities.
Suddenly, a molecular vortex formed, disrupting the dimensional space. Several figures emerged from within the swirling energy.
"Who's this now?"
Xia Luo's pale-blue eyes gleamed as he noticed the distortion.
From the dissipating vortex, Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen stepped into the fray.
"Spider-Man," Apocalypse addressed him directly, "care to join me?"
Xia Luo raised an eyebrow. "Join you in what?"
Apocalypse smirked. "Become one with me!"
As his words echoed, the surrounding floating structures disintegrated into sand, forming a massive sandstorm that blocked Xia Luo's path.
"Ugh, can we not? The fight isn't even over yet!"
Xia Luo gritted his teeth and dove through the whirling sands. Apocalypse raised his hand, summoning lightning to strike Spider-Man mid-air.
"Buzz!"
"Boom!!"
As the lightning struck, Xia Luo darted into a portal, reappearing beside the Ancient One.
"Supreme Sorcerer, I'd like to report someone popping champagne during the match."
The Ancient One glanced at him, sweat beading on her brow.
"I'm sorry, but I don't have the strength to help you. The Hydra's power is too immense," she said weakly.
Xia Luo: "!!!!"
So that's why she let Apocalypse in—to sabotage me and protect her retirement plans!
The storm of sand closed in again, and Apocalypse's figure loomed ominously within it. Without hesitation, Xia Luo fled into another portal.
The sandstorm swept past the sorcerers, leaving the golden barrier undisturbed.
Apocalypse had no interest in provoking the mysterious and powerful sorcerers. His target was Spider-Man.
"Spider-Man, I'm here to help!"
Harry Osborn and his father zoomed in on their hoverboards, heading straight for Apocalypse. Before they could get close, Magneto intercepted them.
"Your metal boards are quite impressive," he remarked with a sinister grin.
"What?!"
Before the Osborns could react, their hoverboards wrenched violently out of their control.
"No!!"
The pair plummeted, but Reed, now in his elastic form, stretched out to catch them just in time.
"Mr. Osborn, who should we be fighting right now?" Reed asked, glancing between the Hydra and Apocalypse's team.
Harry gritted his teeth. "Obviously, them."
He pointed at Apocalypse and his Horsemen. "If we can't take down the dimensional god, we'll focus on these mutants."
"Got it. Let's target the mutants!"
Johnny Storm rocketed toward Magneto, blazing like a comet.
Magneto, unshaken, waved his hands. Metal fragments from the surrounding structures flew toward Johnny in a lethal barrage.
"I'll handle it!"
Susan raised her hands, conjuring an energy shield to block the incoming projectiles.
"My turn!"
Ben Grimm grabbed Reed's elastic body, using him as a slingshot.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
"Let's go!!"
Ben launched himself like a meteor, hurtling straight at Magneto.
"Don't try this at home, kids! Inspired by Spider-Man!" Ben roared mid-flight.
"Boom!!"
Ben smashed through Magneto's metal defenses with a thunderous impact, sending him crashing into an inverted structure.
"Now it's my turn!"
Johnny followed up, turning into a fiery projectile that struck the wreckage. Reed and Susan quickly moved in to provide support.
Meanwhile, Charles Xavier was being pestered by a flurry of arrows from Natasha, though the psychic's calm demeanor made it unclear if he was genuinely frustrated.
---
Elsewhere, Pietro was being chased by Electro.
"This electric guy is too fast! He's caught up to me!" Pietro yelled.
---
Scarlet Witch, meanwhile, was locked in a fierce battle with Carter.
"Buzz~"
Carter's shield clashed against Wanda's scarlet energy, ricocheting back at an alarming speed. For a moment, a dark image of Carter being sliced in half flashed in Wanda's mind.
"Oops… I overdid it!"
Before she could retract her power, Carter dodged mid-air, reclaiming her shield with a triumphant spin.
"Don't underestimate me," Carter said, a smirk on her face.
Natasha, running past, quipped, "That landing looked like mine."
She then fired a few shots at Charles with her handgun.
Carter: "…"
"Boom, boom, boom!!"
---
In Apocalypse's hands, a colossal pyramid of sand formed above the battlefield.
"Oh no. This looks familiar," Xia Luo muttered, staring at the towering structure.
As the pyramid descended, he tried to open a portal but found it distorted by Apocalypse's power.
"Buzz~"
The circular portal twisted unnaturally, cutting off his escape route.
"My dear Spider, surrender your body to the great mutant god!" Apocalypse commanded greedily.
"Sorry, but my body belongs to my fangirls," Xia Luo shot back.
With a flick of his hand, he reached through the twisted portal and yanked Apocalypse into it.
"What?!"
Before Apocalypse could recover, the portal closed, bisecting him.
As his body began to regenerate, Xia Luo darted away in a streak of lightning. The pyramid crashed down behind him.
"Boom!!"
The massive pyramid buried Apocalypse under a mountain of sand, shaking the entire dimensional space.
"Wow, this is how you use a portal!"
Standing atop a skyscraper, Xia Luo clapped and laughed. "I've got it now!"
Without warning, he toppled off the building, firing webs to swing toward the coastal villa.
Through the villa's shattered ceiling, Xia Luo spotted Ruth tending to the unconscious Otto Octavius.
"How is he?"
Ruth looked up, relieved to see Spider-Man.
"His spine… it's burning hot."
She gently turned Otto over, revealing his back, red and translucent with blood vessels exposed but not bleeding.
Beneath his semi-transparent skin, Xia Luo's glowing blue eyes discerned crimson threads attempting to merge with Otto's nervous system.
The more the Hydra's energy connected, the stronger the Hydra projection grew, straining the sorcerers' golden chains.
If this continued, the Ancient One would retire for good.
Xia Luo wasn't about to let that happen.
"This is bad. We'll need to replace his spine," Xia Luo said grimly.
"Where's the original one from his surgery?"
"At the hospital."
"There's no time."
"Boom!"
Tony's Mark armor landed with a metallic clang. He gestured toward a set of mechanical arms in the lab's corner.
"Those could work."
Xia Luo inspected the damaged arms, frowning.
"They're too broken."
Tony shook his head. "We're out of options."
"No, we're not."
Xia Luo tapped a wrist device, summoning four dark-gold mechanical limbs that extended from his back.
"So you did steal his tech," Tony said with mock disdain.
Xia Luo rolled his eyes. "They're spoils of war."
As he detached the limbs from his suit, Tony assisted.
"Buzz~~"
The sharp blades of the mechanical arms pierced Otto's back, opening a path for the replacement spine.
"Sss~"
In an instant, the blade attempting to sever the corrupted spine melted under the intense heat.
Tony froze. "Doesn't look like that's going to work."
"It's not a 'looks like,' it definitely won't work," Xia Luo replied, inhaling deeply before plunging his hands into the searing flesh. Gritting his teeth, he yanked the overheated spine out by brute force.
"Splurt!!"
Blood, blisteringly hot, sprayed everywhere. Acting quickly, Xia Luo installed the mechanical spine connected to the robotic arms onto Otto's back.
"Beep, beep~"
The nano-metal within the spine spread rapidly, stabilizing the bones it connected to.
"Did it work?" Ruth asked anxiously, her hands trembling.
Xia Luo shook his head. "Of course not. While Dr. Octavius is alive, the crude replacement of his spine has likely irreparably damaged his nervous system. He might never walk again."
Ruth's face fell. "So being alive will only bring him more pain?"
Tony, watching thoughtfully, added, "The fact that he's still alive is a miracle in itself. Anyone else would've been dead by now."
"It's thanks to the lingering regenerative properties from the Hydra power inside him," Xia Luo said, his gaze shifting to the extracted spine.
The discarded spine dissolved into a stream of light, surging toward the Hydra projection.
With the ninth spine finally in place, the Hydra projection solidified at an alarming rate.
Yet as it became more corporeal, Earth's natural repulsion toward the foreign entity increased, and the Hydra began to be dragged back into the void.
The Ancient One, who had prepared herself for close combat, sighed in disappointment. Her chance at a peaceful retirement was slipping away.
With a reluctant glance at the trembling pyramid behind her, she turned and motioned her disciples to follow her through a portal.
"Supreme Sorcerer, Spider-Man's in trouble—" Wong began, only to be interrupted.
"You have to trust your idol," the Ancient One said coldly. "He'll handle it."
Wong hesitated before nodding. "Yes, the Invincible Spider-Man never falls!"
As the sorcerers departed and the dimensional space collapsed, the pyramid crumbled into ashes.
---
"Boom!"
From the crater left behind, a blue figure shot skyward.
"That damn Spider, always full of surprises," Apocalypse laughed, raising a hand to unleash a devastating energy wave. Buildings around him exploded in rapid succession.
"Tap!"
A golden portal appeared behind him, and a hand emerged to smack the back of his head.
The mysterious force left him momentarily dazed—a clear warning.
Apocalypse steadied himself, his expression darkening. Reluctantly, he used his powers to repair the destroyed structures.
During his original era, there had been no Supreme Sorcerer.
But since awakening, Apocalypse had sensed Earth was brimming with formidable new powers, the Supreme Sorcerer being one of the most notable.
In Kamar-Taj, he had detected traces of terrifying forces from other universes, ones even he, the so-called god of mutants, could not rival.
Today, he had only dared to exploit the dimensional chaos because of the Sorcerer Supreme's implicit consent.
The portal's warning made it clear—his actions had limits.
The battlefield grew silent as Apocalypse weighed his options.
Magneto and Charles exchanged glances, feigning ignorance.
Wanda and Pietro, seasoned fighters, busied themselves battling their opponents without missing a beat.
That was until nine spines descended from the sky.
"Seize them!"
Apocalypse roared, spurring Magneto and the others into action.
They had already witnessed the terrifying power of Hydra's energy and would not let such a treasure slip away.
"Stop them!" Carter shouted.
Chaos erupted once more.
As Tony joined the fray, explosions lit up the battlefield.
"Boom~"
Suddenly, Ghost Rider's flaming motorcycle roared through the chaos, its hellfire forcing everyone back.
Johnny Blaze, engulfed in flames, snatched the spines and rode off.
"Vile spirit!" Apocalypse bellowed.
"Buzz~"
In a flash, Apocalypse vanished into the void, reappearing in front of Ghost Rider. Energy swirled menacingly in his palms, a clear threat.
Johnny's instincts screamed danger.
Behind him, a portal burst open, and Xia Luo zipped through in an electric arc, seizing the spines mid-air.
In one fluid motion, Xia Luo tossed the bundled spines—encased in webbing—straight into Apocalypse's energy wave.
"NO!!"
Apocalypse's eyes widened in horror as the spines disintegrated under his attack.
But something far worse occurred.
"Buzz~"
The destruction of the spines unleashed a burst of true dimensional energy. The surrounding space shattered violently, fracturing reality itself.
Apocalypse, standing closest, was obliterated in an instant, reduced to ash.
Ghost Rider, too, was torn apart, his body succumbing to the destructive force.
Xia Luo, sensing the impending doom through his Spider-Sense, attempted to escape through a portal—only for it to collapse mid-formation.
Xia Luo: "..."
I knew I shouldn't have meddled.
With grim acceptance, Xia Luo turned to Carter and the others, offering them a small, reassuring smile.
As the dimensional collapse consumed him, his grin shattered into countless fragments.
---
"Crack, crack~"
The destructive force came swiftly, yet within seconds, the fractured space mended itself, as if nothing had happened.
"Rustle, rustle~"
A gentle breeze stirred the ashes, reassembling Apocalypse's form.
"Spider-Man… is gone?" Apocalypse murmured, stunned.
Magneto approached, his tone calm. "He'll come back—stronger than before."
Apocalypse's expression soured. "That cursed insect! Next time, I'll catch him for sure!"
"Understood."
The mutants departed in haste, leaving the battlefield behind.
From the charred remains, Ghost Rider's bones reignited with hellfire, piecing themselves back together.
"I'm… alive?!" Johnny exclaimed in disbelief, his voice tinged with joy.
Looking around, he asked, "Where's Spider-Man?"
Carter's face remained stoic. "He's dead."
"Dead?"
Johnny shook his head firmly. "Impossible. Spider-Man is immortal—everyone knows that."
Carter didn't bother explaining.
As they walked away, the group chatted amongst themselves.
"How long do you think it'll take for him to come back this time?"
"A week."
"No, a month."
"If he doesn't return for six months, that'd be great."
"Huh?"
Everyone turned to Tony, their gazes skeptical.
Tony, unfazed, replied earnestly, "If he doesn't return for six months, I can file for a death certificate, claim his nano-tech patents, and use them for free."
Carter glared. "You're despicable."
The others nodded in agreement.
"Absolutely shameless."
"The richer they are, the stingier they get."
"He's just protecting Spider-Man from being corrupted by money."
"Looks like Spider-Man is destined to stay broke."
Max muttered darkly, "If he tries to profit off my idol, I'll scatter ash in his eyes!"
Harry chimed in softly, "Count me in. My friend can't stay broke forever."
"Good. We strike tonight."
"Agreed."
---
Back in the main universe, Tony Stark felt an inexplicable sense of foreboding.
Meanwhile, within the Web Of Life, Xia Luo noticed something strange about his body.

"So… am I seriously becoming a Nine-Headed Spider now?"
