Chapter 198: Treasure Cave (l)

The evening sun hung low on the horizon, coloring the sky with a dazzling reddish tinge.

Near a towering rock cliff, El leaned against an old tree, watching Xiao Yi Xian quietly.

Xiao Yi Xian stood at the edge of the cliff with a troubled expression, her eyes fixed on the bottom of the precipice that was shrouded in a light mist.

The cliff was so steep, it was enough to make a Dou Zhi practitioner who fell from there suffer severe injuries, perhaps even lose their life.

From the distance, the sound of hurried steps could be heard, followed by a familiar shout. "Xiao Yi Xian!" exclaimed Xiao Yan as he ran over to them.

Xiao Yi Xian was startled and immediately turned her head with a panicked expression. "Be quiet, don't shout, people can hear!" she whispered sternly, keeping her voice low.

As soon as Xiao Yan arrived nearby, Xiao Yi Xian's attention returned to the bottom of the ravine. In the thin mist that enveloped the cliff, a snake nest was clearly visible.

There, a large snake with a long dark gray body was coiled quietly. The snake had small eagle-like wings, giving the impression that it might be capable of flight.

Undoubtedly, it was the Rank 1 Magic Beast, Snake Clift, the terrifying nest guardian.

"Look," Xiao Yi Xian said as she pointed towards the nest. "There is a cave over there. I'm sure there must be precious treasures inside. But that place is guarded by a Magic Beast."

Xiao Yi Xian's face showed undeniable seriousness. "Let's go there. We will split the proceeds."

Xiao Yan was silent, looking in the direction pointed before sighing and turning around. "Let's just go back. Let's tell Wolfhead Mercenary about this. Let them take care of it," he said in a casual yet firm tone.

He continued as he glanced at Xiao Yi Xian. "Anyways, my purpose here is not to search for treasures. My goal is to find Jie Lie's caravan." His voice sounded casual, yet there was no hesitation in his intentions.

The evening sun began to fade, coloring the sky a soft orange. The atmosphere on the towering cliff was suddenly tense.

Xiao Yi Xian, with a tone full of emotion, snapped at Xiao Yan, "Notify the Wolfhead Mercenary? Jie Lie's caravan? Is that all you have in your head? Don't you think about my safety even a little?"

However, Xiao Yan seemed unperturbed. With a casual attitude, he turned around and began to walk away, as if he did not care about her protests.

Xiao Yi Xian, not accepting, immediately grabbed Xiao Yan's arm, stopping him. "You-"

A cold and flat voice suddenly sounded, cutting through the tense atmosphere between them. "So, Xiao Yi wants to go downstairs?"

Both of them were startled, their heads simultaneously turned in the direction of the sound. At the edge of the ravine, El stood casually, staring down with sharp eyes as if measuring the depth of the ravine.

"Eh? How come, you're here? Since when?" asked Xiao Yi Xian in a puzzled tone, almost in disbelief.

Meanwhile, Xiao Yan's expression turned serious. In his mind, he was speaking to Yao Chen through telepathy. 'Master, this person... what do you think of him?'

Yao Chen replied in a tone full of authority yet calm. "I don't feel the slightest trace of Dou Qi energy from him.

"His presence is like a shadow that merges with nature. But... I don't feel any malicious intent from him. He is not an enemy, although it was clear from the start he was not an ordinary person." said Yao Chen.

Hearing that, Xiao Yan nodded softly, his eyes still watching El cautiously.

El, standing without showing any emotion, shifted her gaze from the ravine to Xiao Yi Xian and Xiao Yan, taking turns.

After a moment that felt like an eternity, El turned his gaze back to the ravine, sighing slowly.

"Ji has been around since the beginning, observing Xiao Yi," he said calmly, yet there was a cold firmness in his voice, like a gust of wind on a deep cliff.

He paused for a moment, letting his words hang in the air before continuing, "Calm down. Ji doesn't mean anything bad. Ji just wants to ask... and confirm something." His polite yet authoritative tone made the atmosphere quiet, as if waiting for their reactions.

Xiao Yi Xian expressed annoyance lightly, then broke the tension with a sarcastic tone, "Perverts are definitely stalkers. You must want to bite me again, right? Good thing there is Xiao Yan."

Xiao Yi Xian's faint smile portrayed a soulful ingenuity, as if throwing out an unspoken challenge.

However, El only looked at him with a cold expression, the voice that came out of his lips showing no emotion at all. "Ji is not a stalker. Ji's body was worried and moved on its own to follow Xiao Yi away, afraid of something bad happening."

El's sharp eyes stared at Xiao Yi Xian for a moment, as if assessing his actions, then turned his gaze back to the deep abyss, which seemed to contain unrevealed secrets.

The atmosphere growing tense, El continued in a heavier voice, "Moreover, Ji is not a pervert. Ji is just a fire that can no longer burn."

{Note: The meaning of a fire that can no longer burn is, "A person who has lost their emotions and can't provide a sense of warmth around" It's a suitable metaphor}

El's words flowed calmly, but there was a hidden depth behind them, like a riddle that was not easy to solve.

The atmosphere around the ravine was quiet, yet tense, as if the air around them had become heavier.

Xiao Yi Xian stood transfixed, a look of confusion clearly printed on her graceful face.

El's words, though simple, implied something much deeper-an unspoken sadness or despair.

Slowly, she began to realize that the man in front of her was no ordinary person. There was a mysterious side to El, something that made her even more curious.

On the other hand, Xiao Yan was silent for a moment, trying to digest the metaphor of "a fire that can no longer burn." The words seemed simple, yet they held layers of meaning that were difficult to fully comprehend.

Was it regret, loss, or something deeper that was unspeakable? Xiao Yan could not help but feel curious, even though he knew El would not give any further explanation.

El let out a long sigh, his eyes remaining focused on the abyss that stretched in front of her. "Forget about it. It's not important. Don't think about it too deeply."

After a moment of silence, El continued. "So, does Xiao Yi want to go down there?" His tone of voice did not change, as if he was discussing trivial matters, although behind those words was a pressure that was hard to ignore.

Xiao Yan sighed and decided to leave. He turned around, stepping away with a half-joking tone that hid his discomfort.

"Since your lover has already offered his help. I will leave. Don't worry, I will not interfere... and I will not divulge this either." Xiao Yan said.
