Chapter 632: Spores
With Xu Feng being forced to imitate a monkey swinging around the tree branch with his Phantom Grappling Hook, the tendrils seemed enraged.
They didn't show any intent of letting him go and swiftly chased after him on the ground level.
And seeing their determination, Xu Feng really wanted them to kindly get the hell out of his way.
How dare these tendrils treat him like a weakling— even if that was the cold hard truth at the moment with the amount of nerf he had received!
'Alright, they've forced my hands.' Xu Feng narrowed his eyes and began multi-tasking. On the one hand, he used it to continuously grapple around the tree branch, and on the other hand, he was using the Holo-Mapper to search for a predator.
Since these tendrils wanted to court death, then he might as well deliver them both to deadly predators. Of course, once he laid the trap, he would instantly dip using the Smoke and Frost Grenades as deterrence. As for these annoying tendrils, they were going to be delicious vegetarian dishes for the predator.
Time quickly went by, and Xu Feng found a monster that resembled a buffalo merged with a lion. The appearance was very weird, to say the least, but its perception was next level.
While swinging toward another tree branch, the predator suddenly turned its attention to him. As soon as their eyes locked, Xu Feng felt an uncontrollable chill running down his spine. It wasn't that he was afraid, but the passive effect of the predator was very intimidating.
Alas, it seemed as if his gamble paid off, as the monster seemed to be chewing on some plants and detected the nearby tendrils that were completely tunnel vision on Xu Feng's location.
The monster's attention was quickly drawn away by a group of tendrils as it roared and stomped its heavy hoof on the ground. It roared menacingly and started chasing after the tendrils.
Alarmed, the tendrils soon realized the danger they happened to find themselves in. Some of them attempted to scatter away and run, but they were far too slow.
Despite the sheer size of the monster, its speed was no joke. Within the blink of an eye, the monster managed to gulp up a mouthful of tendrils. The tendrils that were caught began continuously shrieking and shivering around in an attempt to escape from their fate of being chomped down alive. However, it was merely a pipe dream as the monster easily used its razor-sharp teeth and chowed down on the tendrils, feeling revitalized by the abundant nutrients.
The crunching sound of the tendrils could be heard and Xu Feng used the opportunity to slip away. He was not going to sit around and wait to find out whether the monster was really vegan or not.
Sure enough, the monster didn't even perceive a weakling like Xu Feng as a threat and completely paid his attention to the fleeing tendrils.
Just like that, Xu Feng managed to avoid a crisis and realized he needed to add the tendrils into the Holo-Mapper database. That way, when he was to use the Holo-Mapper again, it would automatically detect these dangerous tendrils.
After doing so, he proceeded to explore further and to his dismay, he didn't find anything helpful.
'Weird… there's no bacteria or virus carrying plants or monsters.' He furrowed his brows. Although the predators that roamed around the rainforest were deadly, none of them were viruses or bacteria carriers.
"Cole mentioned needing to install some equipment, but there's nothing listed in the database." Xu Feng had been trying to identify the location that Cole informed.
As the information was not recorded on the database, it was pretty clear that the mastermind behind the scene was trying to conceal the matter from everyone else. Thus, he had no choice but to recall every little detail that Cole tried his best to convey to him.
It was just a pity that everything Cole described was the common thing available in the rainforest. Throughout the exploration, Xu Feng tried to use the Spectral Binoculars to glance at some metallic pieces of equipment that were installed.
The equipment mentioned by Cole seemed to be large in size, so as long as he spotted them, he would then be able to calculate the precise location in the Holo-Mapper.
Time continued to pass by, and Xu Feng had reached the 50-kilometer mark. By now, he was already exhausted and starved from the amount of action he had exerted.
Without a choice, he installed another Pulse Beacon and remained situated at the top of a tree branch. Afterward, he retrieved some of the food ration that was given to him on the deboarding checkout.
The food was equivalent to canned food and Meal, Ready-To-Eat (MRE) type, so they were honestly not the best.
After finishing preparing the MRE, Xu Feng glanced at the sky with a bittersweet smile. Just how did he end up in such a pitiful state?
He went from someone who could eat a lot of luxurious food and had his own private suite in the hotel, to someone who was now struggling to survive in the massive rainforest filled with monsters.
The immersion in the Origin Trial was starting to affect him both physically and mentally. Despite his effort in trying to constantly remind himself that this was a trial, his mind was starting to adapt and believe he was someone of the interstellar era.
"This isn't real at all…" He murmured and took another few bites.
"I'm just a Trainee for Battleship Lux…" His eyes soon turned hazy. "I'm just someone who is taking over Mike's identification. Yeah, I'm Michael afterward, a wanted person on the battleship."
Amidst his muttering and dazedness, there were a few spores that started to grow from within the tree bark. These spores emitted a fragrance that soothed and relaxed a person upon contact.
Xu Feng, who breathed in quite a few, found himself to be relaxed, unaware that his hand had already dropped the food to the ground.
