Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Third magic
For my idea to work, I start by visualizing my mana dispersing in the form of waves. These waves bounce off nearby objects, and I immediately get a mental image of the surroundings, as if I were using echolocation. But that's not exactly what I want.
- It's useful, but not enough… - I mutter while frowning.
I decide to change my focus. Instead of spreading the waves, I concentrate them only on what I have in front of the palm of my hand. I try to make them more powerful, focusing them to get a more accurate reading. Slowly, the images begin to clear up.
- It worked! - I exclaim with excitement.
I can now see even the molecules of the object in front of me, although I must have my hands less than five centimeters from the object for it to work properly. If they are further away, I will only pick up air.
- This is great, but it still doesn't have much immediate use - I tell myself while looking at the object before me.
Since it works, the next thing is to give it a name. In order for it to register in my mind and its process, it must have a clear name. I think for a moment.
- I'll call it 'Mikroskop' - I whisper, satisfied. It does exactly the same thing as a microscope, so it's the right name.
With 'Mikroskop' added to my repertoire, I already have three magics that I consider fundamental for my future. Being a demi-human with a scientific curiosity, I'm sure I can make great strides with these skills.
- I wonder if being a scientist is a profession in this world… or if being a magician will be the most common - I muse as I look at the forest around me.
Still, my thoughts return to the practical: I must focus on how to survive and thrive in this place. Only when I'm ready will I be able to leave this forest and venture towards civilization. Although, if demi-humans are solitary, perhaps other races like humans will group together. There definitely have to be humans, like in every isekai. And probably elves… and dwarves. I wonder what they'll be like in real life.
- They'll be just like in 'Space Rook Galactic'… how obsessed I was with that game - I laugh to myself, remembering old times.
