Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Salt
After a long walk around the mountain, I notice a section where no grass grows. I stop immediately.
"This is a sign," I mutter as I approach cautiously.
I crouch down and run my fingers over the dry soil. Then I bring it to my nose and smell it. I don't notice anything strange, which is a good sign. So, I decide to take the next step and lick some of the dirt. I immediately taste the salt on my tongue.
"I found it!" I exclaim in surprise. "That was easier than I thought…
I pick up some loose rocks from the ground, all with traces of salt, and prepare to return to my shelter. As I walk back, I think about how pristine this place is. Maybe it's easier to find these resources because it's a virgin forest.
Once in the cave, I start working on processing the salt. I find a clay container that I have free, fill it with water and place it on the fire so that it starts to boil. Meanwhile, I use a stick to crush the salt rocks until they are as fine as possible. When I have enough powder, I pour it into the boiling water.
- I just have to wait for the water to burn off and the salt to crystallize - I think out loud while I watch the fire.
I repeat the process several times until I have a good amount of white salt.
- Perfect, it's time to salt the meat - I say, satisfied with the result.
I collect the meat that I left stored in the cave and cover it generously with a thick layer of salt on all sides. Then, I wrap it in some large leaves that I found near the cave and place it in a place inside the shelter that, thanks to my enhanced senses, I know is neither too humid nor hot.
- Ready... now I just have to wait a few days for the meat to come out - I say to myself, letting out a sigh of satisfaction.
Everything I wanted to do today is done, but there is still a lot of time before the day is over. I sit down and reflect for a moment.
- Maybe I should experiment with my magic… - I mutter. - I could try using the principle of 'Interne Anzeige' and create a third magic, but this time to analyze the exterior of objects.
I don't need a large range for these waves, just something that allows me to closely study the materials. If I succeed, I will be able to identify the properties of different objects, such as edible or poisonous plants, and better understand their characteristics.
- Well, let's see if this works - I tell myself as I begin to concentrate on my mana flow, ready to take the next step in my magical journey.
