"Do you know what happened to Prince Theodore?" Erika asked the captain of the scout company over the telephone.

"No, Kommandant. We didn't find his body. He may have escaped," the captain said from the other side.

Erika sighed. The results were better than expected, but the prince missing was a little disappointing.

"So he managed to escape," she said.

"Don't worry. You did a great job. Well done," Erika praised him.

She knew that not praising them due to the prince slipping past would be a bad show of leadership.

After hanging up the phone, she looked at her staff present there.

She asked for an NCO to tell Jerry and his team to escort the Landsturm family to their territory and join their regiment.

The NCO went out immediately. Maruschka saw the man rushing past, not even looking at her.

She was feeling awkward sitting there doing nothing. However, she didn't dare move.

Inside, Erika started to plan for the next step.

"Gentlemen, this time our target will be the royal capital Frundestein."

She pointed to the kingdom's map placed over a table in the center of the room.

Her staff officers, along with her, included Emil, Bauer, Epps, Stiegler, and some other officers.

They stood surrounding the table.

Erika explained in detail the necessity of this action.

"Since the prince has escaped, he will definitely try to reform his collapsed armies and invade again."

Everyone looked at her as she explained the reasons.

"If we let him be, he will continue to do it again and again until the kingdom is out of people," she said.

"And we cannot let that happen," she pressed.

"So what's the plan, Kommandant?" The one to ask was Epps, standing beside Emil.

"Stiegler, get the Luftwaffe to watch over the city until ground forces arrive."

"Kommandant, the Luftwaffe won't be able to make a dent in a city like the capital," he said calmly.

Erika also knew it. Gliders armed with machine guns would be virtually useless against a city.

"Don't worry, I know. Just maintain watch over the city," she said, assuring him.

"You will only attack if the prince tries to bring a new army out to attack us again," she ordered him.

The Heer generals were a bit pleased. Their rival Luftwaffe would remain useless.

"So what will the Heer do, Kommandant?" Epps asked.

"The Großdeutschland and Brandenburg will advance from two different directions and surround Frundestein," she spoke.

She also showed the routes the regiments would take on the map.

The GD was to move through the path that the combined army used to invade the duchy.

The Brandenburg, on the other hand, would take the main road from Landsturm City to Frundestein.

Both regiments would meet inside the capital city.

"Let's end this farce Prince Theodore has started," she said.

"What do we do after capturing him, Kommandant?" Emil asked.

"Confine him until I issue further orders, and the current king will be deposed."

With this, the meeting broke.

Everyone saluted Erika and went about their work.

The commanders of the regiments were called to move out.

Both the regiments also started to mount up their gear and troops to move.

Erika came out of the room and met Maruschka again.

She saw Maruschka tense and shaking.

But Maruschka leapt up in joy to see Erika and rushed to hug her again.

This time she buried her face inside Erika's bosom.

"I see now why Lady Hanna always does this," she said from that position.

Sweat dropped down behind the heads of Bauer and Emil, while the sentry decided to just ignore the scene, controlling his laugh.

"Hey, Maruschka, stop." Erika pushed her away.

Her face was pink, and she felt embarrassed to be hugged in public in uniform like this.

"But you never stop Lady Hanna from doing this," Maruschka pouted.

"Ahem, let's not stay here anymore. We must return to the palace."

Erika changed the topic out of embarrassment.

"This girl! What will the soldiers think if they hear it?!" she thought, gritting her teeth and clenching her fists.

Maruschka followed Erika into another room along with Bauer, while Emil went to the other side.

"Um, what are you doing here? This is a changing room to change our uniforms," Erika said when Maruschka entered the room with her.

"I'll help you change," Maruschka pressed.

"Fine, just do whatever," Erika said as she started to change her uniform.

Maruschka kept looking at her the whole time.

"Wow, Lady Erika is so handsome in the uniform," she thought.

She was glad that only she knew about this side of Erika.

After changing clothes, they returned to the palace.

The sun was not fully up yet, and only the palace workers were awake at this point.

Maruschka followed Erika to her room while Emil and Bauer went to their respective quarters.

She was shocked to see Hanna still sleeping in Erika's bed.

She wanted to throw Hanna out of there immediately but stopped after remembering yesterday's scoldings.

However, she still slept beside Erika as well.

Erika felt awkward sleeping between two girls, with one just clinging to her.

It was a cold night for the prince who never knew how pain felt or what it was like sleeping in the open.

When he regained his senses, he heard some people calling out to anyone alive among the heap of bodies.

"Damn, if they catch me, I'll be done for," he thought.

Gritting his teeth, he tried to get up.

His legs were not hurting like before, and the blood had also stopped.

However, his feelings of pain and fear remained.

He also couldn't comprehend what happened and felt scared for his life.

It was the first time in his life that he felt so helpless.

"Damn it, I am a prince and the future ruler of this country," he said slowly.

"I cannot die here. I must get out. The Raubenbraum family will pay for this," he thought, clenching his fists.

He started to look for an opportunity to escape his current predicament.

He remained still as Erika's soldiers passed by him, holding a torch and looking for wounded men.

As soon as he noticed that the soldiers were busy with some wounded men lying a little further from him, he got up and ran as fast as he could.

After using the last bit of his strength, he was now fully exhausted but luckily out of danger as well.

He fell down on the ground as strength left his body.

When he escaped, it was still midnight, but now it was dawn. He had been running nonstop all this time, afraid that he might be caught if he stopped.

A strong will to survive and make his enemies pay had taken over him.

But now he was in no condition to run anymore. Lying down flat on the ground, he could only think about what was to come next.

However, fate smiled upon him.

A knight who had escaped the onslaught somehow found him lying on the ground.

He took Theodore with him.

After walking for a few hours, they came across the same town they passed last before the Raubenbraum duchy.

Here the knight stopped for some rest.

Theodore regained his lost energy after having a full breakfast and resting at an inn.

Afterward, they bought a horse and returned to Frundestein as fast as possible.

However, when he returned alone with just a single knight as an escort, his father, the king, was not pleased.

This was a major setback for the kingdom.

Not only the armies of the feudal lords but also the Royal Army, which was supposed to be the kingdom's main defense, was now gone as well.

When presented in front of the king, he bowed on his knee.

"Father, I know some inexplicable things happened, but trust me, I can turn this situation around," he tried to persuade the king.

Standing up from his throne, the king slapped his son on the left cheek.

"You insolent fool!" he screamed.

"What more damage do you want to do?!" he scolded.

"In less than a week, the name of the kingdom has been tarnished," he continued.

"Not only was the duke able to get out of the palace dungeon, but even the Royal Army is now gone. What do you think will happen when the other countries hear about it?!"

The prince remained silent, rubbing his sore cheek, which had turned red from the slap.

Inside, he was burning with rage. But something caught him by surprise.

"What do you mean, the duke escaped?!" He was shocked to learn this news.

He looked up toward his father for answers.

"I don't know. Just two days after you put him in the dungeon, he escaped after killing many guards and destroying my garden," the king calmly explained.

"That's impossible. No one ca—" Theodore tried to say something.

"Shut up. I don't want to hear any words from you. Get out of my sight," the king again scolded.

Theodore looked down and silently went outside of the throne room.

"It's my fault to allow him to take on this project," the king sighed.

He summoned his ministers for an emergency meeting.

Soon the ministers entered one by one. They sat on their respective chairs in the huge throne room.

They talked about how to contain the situation and maintain order in the kingdom.

Fortunately for them, the feudal lords had also lost their armies, and non-aggression treaties were signed with the neighboring countries.

So there was no immediate threat to the kingdom and capital.

"Your Majesty, I think we have to control the flow of information so that the news of our losses doesn't become public," said the minister of intelligence.

He was in charge of the kingdom's secret service, independent from the army.

"I suggest we increase the number of city guards and patrol teams along with the remaining knights and forbid anyone from going in or out of the city."

The person to speak was the prime minister. He was Paul's father.

As prime minister, his seat was beside the king's throne.

Everyone supported this idea. So the decision was made.

With this, the king ended the meeting. Everyone went to their respective duties.

They had to save the kingdom somehow.
