Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players

Chapter 20: Death

"Don't tell me this god has a crush on me!" said Jung as a matter of fact.

Not waiting for a response, he stood next to Nero. "Don't worry, I will take this fight seriously, just for you."

Silence dominated the room, yet Jung continued without withdrawing his eyes from the beast. "I know you are worried about me, but you don't have to be. I promise I will survive."

Jung's tone never forfeited confidence. However, instead of the system, Nero replied. "I am not worried about your heavy ass."

Laughing, Jung tried to pet her until he got smacked. "I am not talking to you, my lovely pussy cat."

Unfortunately, there was no time. Summoned light kept increasing, and Jung had no clue what would happen.

"Nero, tell me you can stop that thing," he asked his sole party member.

The answer came, though not in the way he wanted to hear it. "I can block, but you can't."

"Damn it," he exclaimed, trying to find a solution. Unexpectedly, he noticed something: a glowing sphere that could be the key to extinguishing the monster.

But he had to stay alive before that. "Block every attack as long as you can. I have an idea." Jung instructed the cat.

Nero nodded, her paws still covered in a grey haze. "What about you?" she asked and stood in front of the boy.

"Me?" he asked as he looked at the light that would descend on them at any second. "I am going to rebel."

His ability to act like a rebel archetype was off the charts. This would cause his Revolt Blade skill to advance to the limits. The more oppression placed upon him, the stronger his axe would become.

And the awaited moment came. The beauty flapped her wings, causing the surrounding light to ripple and split up.

Her subsequent actions were unexpected but confirmed Jung's suspicions.

Swallowing all the light particles, the creature doubled in size as her mutation pulsed even more. She held her hand against intruders and shot the magical dart.

Nero jumped and shielded the first attack. Jung ran as he shouted at her. "Cover for me."

He dashed towards the beast, trying to get closer. Her attacks had only a one-second cooldown, and Nero's paws seemed to be the only reason they were alive. Jung sprinted, Nero not leaving his side. He felt something inside him, a manifestation of his ongoing temperament and energy. It was an archetype that answered his actions.

He was on the right track. At least in terms of ideology, darts were flying in his direction, and it was hard to advance. Thankfully, he had Nero with him. Also, she could have easily ended this fight if it weren't for her half-frozen status.

Meanwhile, their approaching strategy worked. He achieved some of his primary objectives and got closer to the monster.

Yet the core issue still lingered. The beast was floating in the sky, and he couldn't reach it. His cute companion, however, could easily cross that distance.

"You see that pulsing thing on her torso?" Jung asked as he stayed in one place.

Nero remained there, swinging her paws in quick succession. "What about it?" she asked, darting one of her eyes to the target.

"I want you to smack that place with your full force. Imagine it's my face; it will be easier," he smirked.

"And who is going to defend you?" Nero asked, with no hint of concern in her eyes.

Jung acted like he was touched by her words. "Just do what I told you; I am going to be fine."

Nero didn't even look at him. She hopped at the creature and was about to strike the corrupted body part.

In the meantime, Jung remained on the spot with no help whatsoever. Before Nero could even mobilize her skills, Jung saw light heading in his direction. As it danced in the air, it appeared bright and somehow beautiful. Jung grinned in satisfaction. His axe had never been this tremendous and full of intensity.

An immense amount of persona was in his hand, and he swung it in a parrying motion. And two massive energies collided. Rebel opposing Innocent. Two different archetypes trying to devour each other. They caused ripples on the ground, and Jung could barely stand on his feet. He clenched his teeth and gripped his axe. His hands ached as the light drew closer to him.

It felt like an end. The force that no mortal should stand against. His body may have trembled, his legs and hands may have shivered, but his determination never wavered. Jung rebelled despite all odds, and he survived for some time.

Enough for the cat to smack, scratch, hit, and strike at the monster. Her aim was on point, precisely at the glowing mutation.

Jung's plan never included him in the front line. He was the master of plotting and scheming for the duo that had to deal with this absurd dungeon. Fortunately for him, he possessed a tamed animal that he could use, however he liked. But staying behind the cat wasn't his style. She would be the first hurdle he had to surpass.

As for the monster, even her death was beautiful. She shrieked in pain, reluctant to die and lose her glorious life. It was too late for her. Even death became a gift, a chance to find peace and depart from a world that couldn't even contain her presence.

Nero landed gracefully, with her paws bleeding from the clash. As for Jung, not only his hands but also his knees were injured. 'This was easy,' he thought shamelessly.

His attitude was noticeable even to the cat, who ignored him entirely. Jung didn't care and went toward the dead monster, not to enjoy her demise, but to get the last pill. Gently moving towards her turned out to be enough, and the system spoke to him.

[Pill of Mutation: 17/17]

[You can get Mutated skill.]

[There is one more special item that can help my evolution.]

It was the first time the system had sounded so restless.
