Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players

Chapter 19: Divine

"Really?" Jung asked in surprise as he went near the surface Nero was talking about. "But I see nothing here."

"That's because you are dumb," the cat answered and touched her paw to the wall.

Nothing happened for about five seconds, and as Jung was about to mock her, both of them felt a tremor.

An intense vibration that made standing nearly impossible. Nero leapt onto his shoulders, and Jung braced himself against the trembling floor.

"What's going on?" he asked in confusion. There was no door or room he could see.

"Wait for it," Nero advised smugly and clawed his neck.

Frustrated, Jung considered punching the cat, only for the shaking to cease. A silence descended with a cold temperature, and a door appeared.

It wasn't out of nowhere. The dark, misty handle manifested on the wall. Seizing the moment, Jung coughed, forgot his previous wishes, and walked toward the door.

[You should see what's in your inventory.] A voice came that sounded like a warning.

"Sure, my queen," Jung said with no hint of irony and checked the loot. Looking through his items gave him a headache. "I want a sorting feature. This is pure chaos," he mumbled.

There was a mess in his collection, and it took him one whole minute to identify the things he got. Soon, he noticed new items and stood there, wondering where to search for Lady Luck.

[Pill of Mutation: 16/17]

-An almost completed pill that grants a mutation skill.

This was wonderful news. Fetching one extra skill out of nowhere was something he didn't expect, yet it promised great usefulness.

[You need to kill that boss to acquire the Mutation skill.]

The system commented and went quiet.

[Good luck!]

"I am pumped up," said Jung with determination, but there were signs of worry on his face. "If Lightless was only a mob, how ugly could the boss be?"

Nero shivered in fear after her imagination went wild. However, she quickly collected herself and stood with Jung, waiting for his action.

He touched the handle with no hesitation and opened the door. There was even more light inside. Unimaginable whiteness filled the room.

It was almost blinding, hot-looking, but cold in reality.

No, it was more than that.

As Jung and Nero went into the room, the temperature sank to sub-zero levels. There was no presence inside, at least one Jung could feel, and the visibility was so low that even walking was a challenge.

However, he took his steps with precision and didn't rush himself. Nero was noteworthy as her company helped him keep his footing.

The cat was his only living friend in this world. Just her being with him was enough to find confidence in his survivability.

Of course, in no universe would Jung admit this. Not only to Nero but to himself as well.

The journey finally led to a result. A new existence, closer than they preferred. The only sign Jung saw was the floating mark above the monster, which shone and revealed to the boy that this monster was tier IV Innocent.

After holding his breath to conceal their existence, they discovered just how late they were. The monster, still unseen, knew about them.

And it was moving.

"You know what to do!" Jung said to Nero, as the cat departed from his shoulder.

It would be their first actual fight against something truly horrifying. All this time, both of them only fought separately.

This would be a moment that would shape their fighting style. A chance to test how compatible they were.

And it was thrilling for both of them.

Not wasting time, Jung dashed from the left and Nero from the right.

Shadow Star would have been useless once again, but they had no distress about that.

Nero was the first one to arrive before the beast. She jumped up to the sky and smacked the hidden creature.

Her void power with her mighty paws, combined with her tier VI status, was enough to make the beast reveal itself. Nero didn't stop her assault, even after seeing the creature.

Jung, gripping the axe, was momentarily stunned. The sight he saw was nothing like what he was waiting for.

This four-winged creature should have been the ugliest and nastiest thing that had ever lived. But contrary to his expectations, the beast was beautiful.

Not just beautiful, it seemed perfect in any shape and form. It was divine, holy, and angelic, worthy of poems and myths. Body proportions were close to a human woman, but it was made by a god, as no mortal could birth such transcendence.

Yet even her eternal beauty was flawed.

It wasn't her magnificence that impaired her perfect visage. There was more than that.

Her torso, which should have been just as ideal as her entire body, was corrupted. A mutation had started in her soul, causing immense pain.

A pain so grand that this embodiment of purity was losing herself. Jung watched her carefully, scrutinising her.

One couldn't help but feel the urge to save this creature, to shield her from this misery.

Jung was different. Yes, he was stunned after seeing her visage, but it was more out of surprise than captivation.

Quickly sorting his reflections, Jung appeared in front of her and sliced with his axe. Nero mirrored him in every way.

She didn't even care about this beauty and only wanted to escape this place. So Nero smacked at the opponent's face again and again.

Jung was with her, and he tried to sever her wings, but they were too tough for his strength to cut. All he could do was attack her in various places and inflict wound after wound, hoping to kill it.

However, this creature wouldn't just wait for her demise. Her divine identity was on the line, and she was on the edge of losing herself.

She rose into the sky, her wings still in perfect shape. Summoning even more light behind herself, creating a sight to behold.

As Jung and Nero were thinking about how to handle the situation, a system notification echoed.

[A certain god noticed you and your actions.]

[This god is eager to meet you.]
