Reincarnated In Attack On Titan World As Nobody

Chapter 37

Inexplicably, Lock became a free laborer.

The five of them worked through the entire afternoon, and only when the sky darkened did they finally finish cleaning the massive castle.

"Why just a few of us for such a big place?"

Lock removed the gear strapped to his body, breathing easier. Around him, the others did the same—three men and one woman.

From memory, and from their faces, Lock quickly identified them: Levi's squad.

Oluo Bozado, the loud main attacker.

Eld Jinn, the steady second.

Gunther Schultz, the calm assistant.

And Petra Ral, the squad's only female—gentle, but capable.

Their overall strength wasn't yet at its peak, but each had the potential and skill to have survived countless expeditions outside the Walls.

As Lock observed them, they also sized him up.

Oluo spoke first, breaking the silence.

"Kid, are you really Lock, the recruit joining?"

"Yes," Lock answered evenly.

"This is too young…" Eld muttered, then quickly corrected himself. "Sorry, I didn't mean to insult you. I'm just surprised."

"It's fine. Everyone reacts the same way. I'm used to it."

It was true. At fourteen, his age was a disadvantage. Out there, even a moment of doubt could mean death. Trusting your back to a child was hard for anyone, and Lock didn't blame them.

Eld let out a quiet breath of relief. As Levi's deputy, he couldn't afford tension in the squad before their next expedition.

But Oluo wasn't convinced. He curled his lip.

"I don't know what the Commander and Captain were thinking. Putting a kid in our squad… this isn't a nursery."

Lock stood, meeting his gaze directly.

"I only respect those stronger than me. You're not one of them."

"Arrogant brat!" Oluo shot to his feet, signaling Petra and the others not to interfere.

"Enough talk. Do you dare to compete?"

"No problem. But if there's no wager, it's meaningless," Lock replied calmly.

The boy's composure made Oluo hesitate, but pride pushed him on.

"Fine. The loser washes the winner's socks for a month. Agreed?"

Lock's mouth curved slightly.

"You sure you want that?"

The tone stoked Oluo's irritation. He slammed the table.

"It's decided!"

Petra, Eld, and Gunther exchanged helpless looks. Oluo was letting his temper run again. If Levi saw this, there would definitely be "discipline."

Soon, they moved to the open training ground behind the castle.

"I won't bully you just because you're young," Oluo said, gesturing toward the racks of equipment. "Pick the event."

Lock glanced at the gear and the fading light. Optaway ions were limited.

"Forget the rest. It's late. Let's settle this with martial arts."

"As you wish."

Oluo smirked confidently. Petra and the others weren't optimistic. As Levi's main attacker, Oluo was second only to him in close combat—top five in the entire Survey Corps.

To think a fourteen-year-old could stand against him seemed impossible.

Yet despite the doubt, Lock was the first to move.
