Reincarnated as the Weakest Magical Beast

Chapter 80: Packing up

It was now decided: Emilia and Mimi would be leaving the Silvervein Clan the very next morning after Mimi received her treasure.

So, Emilia quickly returned to her mansion and began packing. On her bed, her maid Lina had already prepared a magical backpack for her. At first glance, it looked like an ordinary leather pack, the kind carried by many fantasy adventurers. Nothing about it seemed special. Yet it was enchanted with an Inventory Expansion spell, allowing it to store far more than its plain appearance suggested.

In this world, magical backpacks were actually quite common. They were considered essential for anyone wishing to explore dungeons. Depending on the rarity and quality, the level of Inventory Expansion varied greatly, and with it, the amount one could store.

For instance, a common-tier backpack with Inventory Expansion Level 1 could only hold about 30–50% more than usual. On the other hand, Draco's storage ring—a true treasure—was on a whole different level. With Space Storage and Inventory Expansion Level 13, it could literally swallow up the entire mansion's contents and still have slots to spare.

Currently, Emilia's backpack was only a rare-grade one, enchanted with Inventory Expansion Level 3 and Weight Reduction Level 3. It could hold a maximum of 50 kilograms while also reducing weight by 24%. Not much by noble standards, perhaps. And of course, as the Young Lady of the prestigious Silvervein Clan, Emilia could have easily afforded a far superior item.

But according to the Trial's rules that put limits on what item she could bring, and because she would also need to conceal her true identity while participating, this modest backpack was the most suitable choice.

Emilia carefully packed it with her essentials: a few weapons, spare clothes, and other necessities. Speaking of clothes, she couldn't possibly bring her everyday noble dresses for obvious reasons. Instead, she had asked Lina to prepare some practical garments, the kind worn by ordinary adventurers.

She packed most of the clothes away, keeping only one set to wear for the journey.

Now, wearing her new outfit, Emilia gave a little twirl in front of the mirror.

"Woahhh! These clothes look so good on you, milady!" Lina, standing to the side, clapped her hands in delight.

Meanwhile, Mimi meowed and gasped in awe and excitement as well. Because truly, her master looked so beautiful and elegant no matter what clothes she wore!

Her chosen outfit was practical yet stylish: a white blouse with loose sleeves tied neatly at the wrists, over which she wore a dark corset-like bodice laced tightly in front to give her both support and a sharper silhouette. A pair of fitted black trousers allowed for easy movement, tucked into sturdy knee-high leather boots laced all the way up.

Around her waist, a wide leather belt carried small pouches and straps for essentials, with an extra layer of belts crossing diagonally for added support. Over it all, she donned a deep-gray hooded cloak trimmed with silver-blue lining, its folds flowing just enough to lend her a mysterious, adventurer-like presence. The cloak could also be drawn close to conceal her figure when needed.

A matching hat with a wide brim had been prepared as well, though Emilia decided to keep it tucked away for later—better suited for travel under the sun.

Compared to her everyday noble dresses, the difference was like heaven and earth. These clothes were much rougher to the touch, lacking the softness and subtle enchantments of her usual wardrobe. No Auto-Cleansing or Durability Enhancement spells were woven into the fabric; this was attire meant for real adventurers, nothing more.

Yet Emilia didn't mind at all. On the contrary, she felt a quiet thrill stir inside her. Dressed like this, she finally looked less like a sheltered noble lady and more like the adventurer she had always dreamed of becoming.

Suddenly, Mimi heard the sound of someone sobbing.

She whipped her head around, and to her surprise, it was Lina!

The blonde-haired maid was tearing up, her cheeks flushed red as she choked on her emotions.

Emilia was startled too, but she immediately rushed over, wrapping Lina in a gentle hug to calm her down.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Emilia asked softly.

"I… I'm so sorry, milady…" Lina sniffled, her voice trembling. "I just… I just can't believe you'll be leaving so soon!"

"Ah, I see…" Emilia murmured. She shook her head gently, then reached up to pat Lina's head with a tender smile.

Yes—Lina cried simply because she couldn't come with her lady.

She was only a year younger than Emilia, now seventeen. Ever since she was little, she had served as Emilia's personal maid. They had grown up together, been through countless days and nights together.

Whenever Emilia was sad or upset, Lina had always been there—caring for her, cheering her up, preparing her meals, tending to her illnesses. And in turn, Lina had watched Emilia grow step by step into a fine young lady.

Their bond had long since surpassed that of master and servant. Now, Emilia considered Lina a true friend—one of the few people she could place her trust in.

"Hey, I'll be home before you know it, so don't be sad! It will only take a year or two at most!" Emilia said reassuringly.

"Nn! I believe in you, milady!" Lina replied, nodding through her tears.

Then she looked down at the small black cat by her feet. Mimi was sitting there with teary eyes too, as if the scene had moved her deeply. To her, it felt just like watching one of those touching friendship stories from an anime.

Lina crouched down, scooped Mimi up, and hugged her warmly.

"Meow…" Mimi purred softly, nuzzling her head against Lina's cheek, trying to tell her through the way of a cat that she was grateful too, and that she was already looking forward to seeing Lina again.

Even though their time together had been short, it was filled with many fond memories. From the disastrous cat food incident to the hilarious cat toilet mishap, they had shared so much already.

If not for the grand mission awaiting her, if not for the call of adventure tugging at her heart… then for sure, Mimi would have loved to stay with Lina forever, being pampered, being cared for for the rest of her cat life.

Moments later, they finished packing. Night had already fallen, and outside, the moon hanging high in the sky while stars twinkled faintly above.

"Good night, milady," Lina said, bowing politely as she stood by the door.

"Good night, Lina," Emilia replied with a gentle smile.

And so, Lina quietly left.

Emilia and Mimi settled down to sleep as well, for they would be leaving at the break of dawn.
