Chapter 79: Returning from the Sanctuary
Emilia woke up a little after that.
As Zephyrona had said, her injuries were not very serious. Well, if the demon had stared into her for a few more seconds, it would have been a completely different story.
Needless to say, Emilia was relieved and overjoyed to see Mimi again. The cat jumped onto her lap and meowed in greeting. Emilia immediately gathered her close, hugging her tightly to her chest. She pressed her face into Mimi's soft, fluffy fur, trembling as tears pricked the corners of her eyes.
"Waaahhh… that was so scary! I thought we were done for!!!"
Mimi's short legs couldn't reach far enough to hug Emilia back, so she simply tap-tapped her master's hand instead.
Meow!
She meowed.
Because just the same, she was glad and very relieved that the danger was finally over.
And so, the two of them stayed like that for a quiet moment, clinging to one another, letting their racing hearts settle. The warmth they shared in that embrace soothed their fear more than words ever could.
Eventually, Emilia managed to sit up properly and take a few bites of food to regain her strength.
"Thank you so much, Zephie big sis!" she said between spoonfuls of the nourishing stew Zephyrona had prepared. The broth was rich and comforting, filled with tender pieces of meat and fragrant herbs that eased her mind and gently restored her mana. "If it wasn't for you, Mimi and I would probably already be dead…"
"Well, it was actually my fault for leaving such a dangerous entity inside the Sanctuary in the first place," Zephyrona replied with a soft, regretful sigh. "If anything, I'm just glad you're both safe."
Emilia looked up at her with a bright, grateful smile, and Zephyrona returned it with a gentle one of her own, then reached out and patted the girl's head fondly, like an older sister watching over her little sibling.
"Anyways," Emilia said, now looking at Mimi. "I'm just wondering… what's that flame on your tail, Mimi?"
Ohh!
Meow!
Mimi meowed in response, and at her command, the black fire slipped off her tail and floated gently toward Emilia like a mysterious burning spirit.
At first, Emilia was confused. She didn't quite know what it was. But then Zephyrona chimed in, explaining everything.
"Woaaahhh! So this is a divine fire! And…" She raised a finger and carefully touched the black flame. Her eyes widened. "It's true! It's not burning me at all!"
"Meow!" Mimi replied proudly.
Of course, she had already instructed the fire to see Emilia as a friend and never harm her. Not only that, the flame playfully nudged against Emilia's finger as if asking for pets!
Emilia giggled at the cute gesture and started petting it by brushing her finger across the tip of its form.
"And your name is… Flamme?"
The flame spun in a joyful loop around her finger twice, confirming.
"Hihi, that's a really nice name!"
Then, to Mimi's surprise, Emilia stood up and performed a graceful little bow, with one hand resting at her chest.
"Nice to meet you, Flamme! I'm Emilia! Please take care of me from now on!"
The flame bobbed once, then dipped as though mimicking her greeting. That made Emilia's smile bloom even brighter.
She spent a while playing with Flamme, testing its warmth and movements, while Mimi showed off more tricks it could do. Emilia couldn't stop clapping and laughing, fascinated by the divine fire's lively nature.
But eventually, the fun had to end. It was time to return.
Now, they stood at the door of Zephyrona's room, a little bit reluctant to leave.
"Goodbye, Zephie big sis…" Emilia said, giving Zephyrona a tight hug. "Thanks for saving me…"
Zephyrona hugged her back warmly, the dragon girl's golden eyes softening as she grew a little emotional.
"Hey, once you finish your Trial, come back and visit often, okay? I'll take you to so many fun places!"
"Nn!" Emilia nodded with a bright smile.
"Meow!" Mimi chimed in, tail flicking happily.
"Alright, goodbye to you too, Mimi!" Zephyrona crouched down, gently patting the cat's head before scratching under her chin and giving her tiny paw a playful shake. "Take care of Emilia for me, alright?"
"Meow!"
"And goodbye to you too, Flamme!"
The little fire twirled through the air, then sent a sparkly kiss that landed on Zephyrona's cheek, making her giggle softly.
And with that, as Mimi had obtained her desired treasure within the Sanctuary of Ten Thousand Stars, Zephyrona cast another spell, teleporting them all back to the Giant Gate's entrance, where Draco and Ariana were waiting.
"Emilia!" both rushed towards her.
The two greeted them cheerfully, though their smiles carried traces of worry. After all, their daughter had been inside the Sanctuary for quite some time. When they finally saw Emilia and Mimi return safe and sound, they both let out a long sigh of relief.
"Phew! I thought something had happened for a second! I was so worried when Zephyrona was suddenly summoned!" Draco exclaimed.
"Emilia, did something happen?" Ariana asked, her voice tinged with concern.
"Ermm…" Emilia hesitated for a moment, glancing at Zephyrona. "Nothing, actually! We were just torn between two powerful choices, so we decided to summon Zephyrona and ask for her opinion!"
"Oh! So that's what happened!" Ariana said with a relieved smile.
Of course, regarding the Archdemon incident, Emilia kept her silence. Zephyrona had asked her not to tell her parents, since the demon's existence was meant to remain a secret. With the matter already settled, there was no need to create unnecessary worries or problems.
Zephyrona placed a reassuring hand on Emilia's shoulder, giving her a small nod as if to say thank you.
And then…
"So, Mimi, what item did you select? Is it a powerful one?" Draco asked, turning to the cat with a grin as he reached down to give her a gentle pat.
Mimi accepted the pet with dignity, then straightened her back, a smug little smile on her face. She let out a proud meow, as if to make her grand announcement!
In that instant, the black fire emerged and swirled into view, greeting Draco and Ariana. Both of them froze in shock, their eyes widening before amazement quickly followed. Never in their lives could they have imagined that this noctifelis had managed to tame a Divine Fire!
"Great job, Mimi!" Ariana said warmly, petting her fondly.
"Haha! That's my Emilia's magical cat!" Draco added proudly, his chest puffing with pride.
And so, as the matter was concluded, they bid farewell to Zephyrona one more time.
Emilia knew she had to hurry home and prepare, for soon, she would be setting out on her first great journey—the Trial of the Dragon Vein.
