Chapter 463: [Dystopian Elven War] [39]
[Demiurge Kingdom]
[Palace of dignity.]
In the heart of the Odisian palace, Kryllios sat quietly on his throne.
His gaze on his hand where he rubbed his ring gently… the ring that had its orb broken.
It was the ring that was connected with Soren's lifeforce.
Once Soren died the orb shattered as well.
The sudden sound of a soldier's footsteps made him look up.
A soldier quickly knelt down. "We have news from the messenger."
Kryllios quietly asked. "What they say?"
"They refused to return the body." The soldier replied, trembling in fear. "The messenger couldn't do anything."
Kryllios grunted softly as he stared back at the ring.
"Behead him."
The soldier looked up in confusion. "Pardon?"
"I said, behead the messenger." Kryllios repeated his words. "Do it now."
The soldier tremblingly nodded. "Yes, your majesty."
He quickly ran away fearing that he might become a target as well.
Kryllios leaned back on his chair as he tried to remember Soren's childhood.
The king was merely thirteen when he impregnated his maid.
Soren was the result of his lust and Kryllios always saw him as nothing but a mistake.
A mistake he shouldn't have made that ruined others' lives.
But Kryllios was immature back then, even though he never killed the child… he made sure his life was hell.
And yet… the boy had always looked at him as a son desperate for a father's love.
Kryllios lowered his gaze as he looked at the ring once again.
Now that he was gone, Kryllios couldn't help but think…
"Was he the mistake?" He whispered to himself. "Or was I the one?"
His vision blurred, and he clenched his jaw harder.
"Not now," he muttered. "I can't look back after coming this far."
He raised his hand, staring at his open palm.
"The elves are already in my grasp." His fist closed tight. "I can crush them whenever I choose."
Yet…
Kryllios couldn't ignore one problem.
Something that was akin to death… one who can take everything away from him.
"Himmel…."
He exhaled his name, hiding his fury behind his calm facade.
"….I will kill you with my own hands."
Things between them were never personal but after Soren's death everything changed.
"Huff…"
He exhaled softly as he felt a call incoming.
Kryllios took out his device and He tossed it to the floor.
A holographic figure soon appeared in front of him.
"Kryllios…"
Edwin said, his hand clasped behind his back.
"I am in no mood to talk." Kryllios replied plainly. "If you have—."
"I want the extinction of elves in one month." Edwin cut him off, his voice cold. "And I believe you want the same."
Kryllios quieted down as he leaned more on his throne.
"So have you decided to join the war?" He asked. "Now of all times?"
"In exactly one month from now…." Edwin said, nodding his head. "The army of vampires and Demiurges will eradicate them—."
"Are you forgetting someone?" Kryllios cut him off. "As long as—."
"Mariam won't be a problem." Edwin said confidently. "I will take care—."
"Mariam was never a damn problem!" Kryllios snapped, abruptly standing up. "I am talking about Himmel!!"
Edwin's anger visibly crawled on his face but he held it in.
Kryllios was well aware of how powerful Soren and his team was.
They were a small army in themselves.
"We can have all the fucking numbers in the world…" He continued, his voice filled with fear. "…As long as he is alive we would never win this war."
Edwin slowly nodded his head.
"That's why we need to eliminate him first." He said. "Before the Great War."
"And how would we do that?" Kryllios asked, annoyed more than ever.
"Frankly speaking, even I don't think I can kill him without losing half my body."
"You are a demigod!" Edwin snapped. "And if you aren't confident then set a fucking trap."
"Himmel isn't stupid enough to fall in a trap." Kryllios rebuked, glaring at him.
Edwin smiled at that. "Oh, he will fall for the trap even if he knew it was one."
Kryllios frowned as he felt uneasiness. "How?"
Edwin's smug face flickered and faded as his voice remained.
"He has many loved ones, don't you think?"

[Yennefer's House, Akasha.]
Yennefer silently patted her daughter's head as she lay on her lap.
Her back remained leaned on the bedframe as her daughter clenched her hand.
"I won't be gone for long, Zenny." Yennefer said, with a tired smile. "Why are you—."
"No!" Zenith cut her off, grabbing her even more tightly. "You aren't going anywhere."
"But I have work to do—."
"You have done enough." She replied. "Now, just stay with me… please."
Yennefer let out a tired sigh as she rubbed her temples. "That's not how the world works, Zenny."
"I don't care about the World." Zenith replied. "You are my world anyway."
Yennefer's eyes softened as she heard her words.
Truth be told, Yennefer was happy with the life she had before.
A daughter was all she wanted and she got one who loved her dearly.
But…
There had never been a time where she could live freely without fearing for her daughter's life.
Since the day Zenith's soul was marked… Yennefer had been living in constant fear.
A fear that she might lose her daughter without even saying a proper goodbye.
Yennefer leaned in as she gently kissed her daughter's forehead.
"Are you doing it because of your dream?" She asked. "The one that's haunting you?"
Zenith didn't reply as she buried her face in her lap.
Yennefer gently rubbed her hair as she noticed something.
Yennefer let out a sigh. "Your hair is turning white."
Zenith slowly looked up as her tearful ember eyes met with her mother's.
She forced herself to smile. "I had a daughter in my dream." She said. "I want you to see her."
Yennefer remained silent for a while before she smiled.
"Of course, I will see her." She replied, wiping her tear. "I would even love her like my own daughter."
Zenith's tears began to flow even more as she trembled.
"I… I don't w-want to lose you." She whispered softly. "Please—."
"Hey, idiot daughter." Yennefer said, smiling brightly. "I am never leaving you. Your mother will always stay by your side."
Zenith didn't reply as she had nothing to say.
Yennefer gently separated herself from her daughter as she smiled. "I will see you in a few days, okay?"
Zenith buried her face in the pillow. "Just go."
Yennefer kissed her daughter's head once more before she left the place.
Left alone, Zenith took out her phone as she dialed a number.
"..."
She quietly looked at Himmel's number without any words.

[Northern Border, Alfheim]
"Don't listen to Lady Elfie." She finally spoke after a while. "Don't… look into your past."
I tilted my head in response. "Why shouldn't I?"
She stared dead into my eyes. "You wouldn't be able to handle it."
"...."
I blinked twice as I processed her words.
Did this girl just say, I can't handle it?
Me?
I chuckled at the absurdity. "Listen here, Nymeria." I replied.
"You have no fucking idea what I been through and what I can handle… so, shut up."
She let out a sigh as she seemed to have expected this much.
"You are being stubborn, Himmel." She said, like she knew me. "I am saying it for your own—."
Bam!!
I slammed the table immediately silencing her.
"Don't!" I said as my skin crawled. "Don't fucking act like you care for me."
Even before when I was trapped within Soren's kingdom.
I saw concern in her eyes.
As if this fucking psychopathical woman cared about me.
Nymeria let out a sigh as she looked into my eyes. "Do you hate me?"
"Do I hate you?" I asked back, tilting my head. "Is that even a question?"
"Why?" She asked. "Is it because of my mother—."
"No," I cut her off. "I hate you because of your father."
"…Because I look like him?" She asked, calmly. "Are you that petty, Himmel?"
At that moment, I felt something within me snap.
Bam!
The table between us slammed on the tent as I pushed it aside.
"Yes." I replied, walking towards her as she stood up. "I hate you precisely because of that."
She remained silent as I looked down at her.
"Every time I look at your ugly face…." I continued as I glared her down. "…I feel like I want to strangle your delicate neck with my own hands."
Nymeria's lips trembled violently as her breath became uneven.
"No, no. Don't! Fucking don't!" I snapped at her once again. "Don't act like you are hurt by my words, you fucking ugly elf."
"..."
She didn't reply as she just took the insults without any words.
Only when Siersha's phone rang did I come back to my senses.
….Ah, I shouldn't have said that.
I looked away as her tearful eyes stared at me.
Siersha showed me her phone. "It's Zenith."
She quickly moved out of the tent leaving us alone.
Nymeria let out a sigh as she shook her head.
"Still, I would advise you to not see those memories." She said once again. "It's for your own good."
"Don't care for me." I replied as I walked past her. "It's for your own good."
I left the tent as I was greeted by Siersha outside.
"Zenith…" She said with a hesitant look. "She is coming to Alfheim."
I rubbed my temples to calm my headache. "Get in contact with Diana." I said to her. "Don't roam around alone."
Saying so, I let my wings unfold behind me.
"Where are you gonna?" Siersha asked as I floated above the ground.
"To somewhere quiet." I replied before I flapped my wings.
---
The cold wind of the north hit my face as I now sat at the top of a mountain.
My legs dangled down as I sat on the edge of a cliff.
The entirety of the place was in my view as I looked around the place.
It was a beautiful place to say the least… if not for the ongoing war.
[<Are you thinking about it?>]
I leaned back as I lay down on the ground, getting comfortable.
'What do you think Inna?' I asked my own question. 'Do you really think she cares for me?'
[<...>]
Of course you won't reply.
'Can't believe you are trying to eliminate your—.'
[<It's not that stupid.>]
'Then what is it?'
[<…She seems broken.>]
'....'
She wasn't before she met with Elife and got to know about the past.
What horror did she get to know for her to break down?
[<Are you thinking about it?>]
'…Can you look after me?'
[<Always.>]
I let out a sigh as I closed my eyes gently.
With a single thought a red door appeared in front of my eyes.
I drew in a deep breath as I grabbed the handle.
'I hope my childhood is not something awful.'
"..."
Who am I kidding?
I am sure it will be…bad.
Still, I didn't back down as I twisted the knob and opened the door.
