Chapter 444: [Dystopian Elven War] [20] [Declaration]
Kryllios waved his hand and….
….Beheaded Vadanis in front of everyone.
Blood sprayed in a wide arc and a sudden silence fell across the place.
Vadanis' lifeless body slumped to the ground, and his head rolled a few feet away.
Renwick didn't move, he was too horrified to even flinch.
Mariam's mouth parted slightly, unable to believe what just happened.
Even I…
Even I stood frozen for a second.
'What…?'
Kryllios gently lowered the corpse to the floor, his movements calm and respectful.
He wiped the blood off his hand with a slow flick, as if it were any other day.
A smile slowly bloomed on his face. "Ah, that feels nice."
"Kryllios!!!!"
Renwick yelled as he rushed towards him in an instant.
His curled-up fist ready to punch out his guts but Kryllios didn't move.
BOOOM!!!!
A shockwave shook the entire place, the fist met its mark.
I had to squint my eyes as dirt and debris rose all over the place.
Yet… Kryllios stood there blocking the attack effortlessly.
"I told you, Sir Renwick." Kryllios said, pushing the demigod back. "You shouldn't have done that."
"Do you even know what you have done—!?"
"Of course, I do!!"
Kryllios yelled back, glaring at him.
"I ended someone who didn't deserve to be the Blood of Great House Atretic."
Renwick gritted his teeth, his eyes blazing with fury. "You can't handle the consequences—."
"Consequences of what?" Kryllios asked, cutting off his words. "I merely did something that would eventually help Atretic."
Before he could reply, Nariya arrived at the scene.
Her eyes falling on her brother's dead body.
"VADANIS!!"
She dropped to her knees beside her brother's body, trembling as she held him close.
Her hands were quickly stained red, but she didn't seem to care.
"Vadanis… no, no, no…" she whispered.
Her voice cracked as she clutched his robes, shaking him as if he could still wake up.
"Who killed him?" Nariya shrieked, her voice raw with pain. "Who did this?"
Kryllios walked a step closer before he bowed deeply.
"It was me, Lady Nariya," he said softly, as if his words would comfort her. "I did it."
Nariya's eyes widened as she found it hard to breathe.
"How could you…?" she asked, her voice cracking with pain. "We did all this just for—!"
"I wouldn't have done that if you stopped supporting Demiurges." Kryllios replied, making his voice heard to everyone.
"It wasn't my fault… it was yours."
Nariya's breath hitched as she stared at him, trembling.
Her bloodied fingers tightened around her brother's body.
"You think this will help anyone?" she whispered, her voice shaking.
"You've destroyed the trust between us—."
"But House Atretic will not stop supporting the Demiurges now."
Kryllios cut in her words, his voice far more stable.
It was almost as if he was the one giving the orders now.
"What—?" Renwick grabbed him by his collar. "What did you say, you fucker!!"
"Let's be real, Sir Renwick." Kryllios said, smiling as he removed his hand. "I know too much for you to disgrace me now."
"..."
Renwick looked at him with a hateful look as Kryllios pushed him back.
"What would happen if your eternal rivals know about this?" Kryllios asked, his smile grew bigger.
"Do you think House Maeve would not snatch everything away from you?"
Renwick's grip on Kryllios's collar tightened once again.
His eyes glowed faintly, rage crackling in them.
"I should kill you right here—"
"Then do it," Kryllios said, spreading his arms. "But that won't bring Vadanis back and it won't fix what's coming."
The place fell into a tense silence again. Only Nariya's broken sobs filled the air.
"I'll bury him myself," she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks.
She didn't even look at Kryllios anymore.
Her world had shrunk down to the lifeless body in her arms.
Renwick slowly let go, his fingers shaking. "You bastard…"
"And I would like to announce one more thing!"
Kryllios raised his voice so everyone could hear it.
"I, Kryllios Demiurge, will kill every single member of my own race, if we lose this war!!"
His gaze finally returned back to Renwick as he smiled.
"You either support us or you lose everything along with us."
For a long moment, no one spoke.
The echo of Kryllios's words hung in the air like a storm cloud ready to break.
His declaration was madness… It was raw, unfiltered, and terrifying.
And yet, it was also… clear and genuine.
"You're insane," Mariam said, standing beside me. "You're talking about wiping out your entire race."
Kryllios looked at her and tilted his head, as if genuinely curious. "Why does it matter?" he asked. "Losing the war also means losing everything anyway."
"...…"
There was a silence in the place as Nariya stopped crying.
She slowly put her brother's body in her space ring.
Wiping her tears, she glared at Kryllios with her now red eyes.
"I will make sure, you will die a gruesome death." she said, glaring at him. "…Even Demiurge will lose their support."
Kryllios smiled as he bowed towards her. "We will see about that."
Nariya looked at him with hatred before she turned around and walked away.
But before she walked out, she turned to look at me.
"I would kill you as well."
I didn't say anything.
Kryllios also looked at me and smiled as he bowed deeply.
"Thanks for your help, Heir Himmel."
He also walked away like he hasn't fucked up everything.
I would have tried to kill him, right here and now had Edwin and Edel not walked with him.
'…there is no point in sneaking on him.'
Handling one demigod is already too much for me now.
Three is beyond my control.
Mariam, who was by my side, gave a gentle pat on my back.
"You did everything you could." she said, her voice soft. "Don't blame yourself."
"..."
Even though she tried not to show it, I could feel her disappointment.
She didn't say anything else as she walked away from me.
I let out a sigh as I walked towards a boulder and sat down on it.
My body still ached from my fight with Soren and the others.
'…I should have tried to kill them.'
Everything once again began to replay in my mind.
How I could have done things differently.
How I could have made things right for everyone.
…Yet.
It meant nothing now.
I looked in front of me as I felt someone walking towards me.
"Are you here to laugh at me now?"
I asked, as I stared into her lifeless grey eyes.
"I told you, didn't I?" Esmeray said, as she stood in front of me. "You would fail once again."
"..."
I let myself smile as I looked at her.
Esmeray didn't smile back.
She stood there, arms crossed, eyes fixed on me like a mirror showing me every mistake I'd made.
"Your mistake was to underestimate Kryllios." she said plainly. "You couldn't understand how low he would go."
"At least, I fulfilled one of my goals." I replied, even though I don't believe it myself. "House Atretic will not support Demiurge."
That's a lie.
…Am I that desperate to show her that I won?
"They will support the Demiurges in the war." Esmeray said, her tone wasn't angry. Just… matter-of-fact.
"Demiurges are too deeply connected with them to let them lose."
"They will eventually break their ties—."
"And the war will end before that." she cut in my words. "What's the point?"
"..."
"You are doing all in your power to make sure elves go extinct, don't you?" she asked, when I didn't say anything.
Slowly she walked towards me and bent down so she could look directly into my eyes.
"You are potential of a thousand suns, Azariah." she whispered softly.
"But you are yet to be smart enough to beat those who have years of experience."
She straightened her back as she walked away.
"That's why you would always need a guide." she said, her voice drifting away. "Only I can bring out your complete potential."
"..."
I watched Esmeray walk away, her dark silhouette disappearing into the fading light.
Her words echoed louder than any scream could.
"Only I can bring out your complete potential."
It was arrogant. Condescending. And somehow… true.
I hated that it might be true.
I let my head drop into my hands and stayed there for a while, breathing slowly,
I tried to push back the weight pressing down on my chest.
Everything had fallen apart again.
Vadanis was dead.
I lost my chance to free Zenith as well.
'…What am I even doing—hmm?'
Just then I felt something on my hand.
'…Ahhh.'
There was a message on my forearm from my fated lover.
It's been so long since she had messaged me that I almost forgot about her.
Her message was a peculiar one.
"You look handsome even when you are in trouble."
I looked around me, trying to find if she was anywhere close to me.
I couldn't find her, so I asked her back.
"Are you stalking me right now?"
Her reply came in an instant. "Take a guess."
"Why are you here?" I asked, too tired to argue. "Or are you someone I know?"
"Of course you know me." Her words were on my forearm once again. "You know me for a long time."
I stared at the message glowing faintly on my skin.
I sent another message.
"Then tell me who you are."
Her reply came slower this time, like she was thinking it through.
"No. That would ruin the fun."
I frowned.
"Is this a game to you?"
Another pause.
"…Maybe. But not the kind you're used to playing."
I leaned back against the boulder, feeling the weight of the day crawl across my shoulders again.
"Fine," I wrote. "Then at least give me a clue."
Her response came quick.
"I've touched your hand once…"
"Not a helpful clue." I replied.
"Don't worry, we will meet soon." she replied. "But I don't think you are ready to meet me."
"Yeah… do me a favor and never meet me."
"Can't do that."
"Why are you here?" I asked, looking around. "Do you like watching your fated lover getting engaged with another woman?"
'Does she have weird fetishes?'
Is she like Inna?
[<Aye! I am not into that.>]
'…Sure.'
"I came to meet a friend." she replied slowly. "She is in trouble."
"…I see." I waited for a while before I asked. "When are we meeting?"
There was nothing on my hand for a while.
"Soon." she finally replied. "So, don't lose yourself."
"..."
She didn't say anything after that.
I lowered my hand as I let out another sigh.
Now….
It was time to face the consequences of my actions.
