Chapter 86: Rescuing Princess Spiana Part Two
In a magnificent palace,
A graceful and tall young woman was kneeling before a massive stone-carved wall, praying.
The stone wall was engraved with images of dog-headed human figures.
In front of the enormous stone wall, the girl appeared extremely small.
The girl devoutly prayed before the mysterious stone carvings: "Wise and capable Bauwanko the First, please listen to my prayer. Our kingdom is now controlled by evil people, and the citizens are lost in darkness, wandering helplessly."
"Please grant this nation the light of guidance!"
Just as the girl was praying, a sudden burst of hurried shouts disturbed her.
"Princess! Princess!" A maidservant rushed in in a panic.
Seeing the maidservant, who usually adhered strictly to etiquette, now in such disarray,
Princess Spiana couldn't help but feel puzzled. "What happened?"
The maidservant ran over, somewhat out of breath, and after catching her breath, she said, "Princess, His Highness the Prince has returned!"
"His Highness the Prince? Is this true?" Princess Spiana asked incredulously, grabbing the maidservant's hand.
"His Highness the Prince is indeed alive and well. When I first heard the news of his death, no matter what, I couldn't believe it."
"That's wonderful, truly wonderful!" Princess Spiana said happily, her eyes filled with anticipation.
"But..." The maidservant hesitated, unsure whether to continue.
"What's wrong?" Princess Spiana noticed the maidservant's troubled expression, her happiness turning to confusion.
"But... the Prince is about to die."
A deep, heavy voice came from behind.
"That's impossible! You're lying!" Princess Spiana turned around without thinking and rebuked the voice.
Only upon turning did she realize it was the person she most loathed and feared—the one who had destroyed the kingdom's peace.
At that moment, the imposing Daburanda strode in with great steps.
"Your Prince is about to die. He was lively when he returned yesterday, but what a pity! He was beaten half to death by Saber again, and this time, he probably won't be so lucky," Daburanda continued smugly.
"How could that be?"
Princess Spiana didn't believe it.
"Tell me, what exactly happened!"
She turned to the maidservant beside her and demanded.
Seeing Princess Spiana's anxious expression and the sudden stern questioning,
The maidservant had no choice but to speak: "Last night, when His Highness the Prince and his group went to the prison to rescue Lord Brus, they were ambushed by Captain Saber and his men. Then, His Highness was severely injured by Captain Saber. The guards at the scene said blood was everywhere!"
The maidservant briefly recounted the Prince's situation.
"How could this be?" Princess Spiana couldn't believe the words coming from the maidservant's mouth, but she knew who Saber was. Encountering him meant the Prince was likely doomed.
"But, Princess, don't worry. I heard that His Highness was rescued afterward!" The maidservant quickly comforted her.
"Is that so!" Although Princess Spiana was still worried, she felt much more relieved.
However, the deep voice from beside her plunged her back into the abyss.
"Princess, do you know how the late Emperor died? Ah, I once gave our dear Prince the same kind of poison!"
"With the Prince half-dead from his injuries, plus this poison, do you think he can survive?" Daburanda smiled sinisterly.
"You... you're despicable!" Spiana pointed at Daburanda, unable to hold back her curse!
She knew that the former Emperor had died from poisoning, and then Daburanda and his allies had pinned the blame on the Prince, leading to a nationwide manhunt for him.
Princess Spiana had already thought this was utterly despicable and shameless, but she hadn't expected them to spare even the Prince, having poisoned him long ago.
"Despicableness is the passport of the despicable; nobility is the epitaph of the noble!" Daburanda was unashamed and even felt proud.
"The Prince and his accomplices will soon be captured by us. Then, I'll sentence them all to death and place the Prince's head before you." Daburanda seemed to enjoy watching her hopes shatter.
Before, when the Prince saw his father die and was framed by him, the collapse had thrilled him.
Princess Spiana collapsed to the ground, her gaze blank and disbelieving.
"Princess, you'd better forget him soon and become my queen!" Daburanda looked at the broken princess and finally revealed his true intentions.
He loved this feeling of breaking someone and then having them submit to him. Otherwise, with his methods of poisoning and force, couldn't he have done it already?
But the princess was fine material after all; she couldn't be devoured like common rouge and powder. She needed to be savored slowly for the full flavor.
Watching Daburanda gradually approach, Princess Spiana felt despair.
She was about to call for help from the maidservant nearby when she suddenly realized that, at some point, the maidservant had already been dragged out by the guards.
"Help! Help! Don't come any closer!" Princess Spiana desperately backed away.
Daburanda admired the scene, but to him, it was just like the Prince's—futile struggles before death.
"Princess, go ahead and scream. Don't worry, there'll be plenty of time for screaming later!" Daburanda advanced while laughing evilly.
"No, don't come closer! His Highness the Prince won't let you get away with this." Princess Spiana was desperate. Who could save her? Your Highness, where are you? Can you come save me?
"Still thinking of the Prince? He can barely save himself. Besides, when he returned, he didn't come for you first—he went for Brus instead! Tell me, what place do you hold in his heart? You'd be better off submitting to me and becoming my queen." Daburanda continued trying to shatter her faith; he loved doing this.
"No, it's not like that! He was just doing it for the kingdom!" Princess Spiana defended him.
Though she understood, her heart still wavered.
Daburanda grew even more excited upon seeing this.
"Is that so? Then why didn't he take you with him when he escaped? And why hasn't he come for you now?"
Of course, Daburanda knew these points were illogical, since he was the one who had driven the Prince away—how could he return? But that didn't stop him from continuing his psychological attack.
"No, it's not like that! It's all your fault." Although Princess Spiana felt some disappointment that the Prince hadn't come for her, she knew it was just Daburanda's trick.
Daburanda didn't care that his ploy had been seen through; it would be even more thrilling when he had her pinned beneath him later.
So, Daburanda stopped persuading and instead rushed forward quickly to achieve his goal—grabbing her dress to tear it off.
Princess Spiana backed away in fear, but the space to retreat was growing smaller.
Watching Daburanda approach relentlessly, Princess Spiana despaired inside. What could she do? Who could save her? It didn't matter if it was the Prince or not—anyone would do.
Bauwanko the First, please show your miracle and save me. If anyone can come save me, I'll give them anything.
Just as Daburanda was about to reach Princess Spiana, and as she prepared to end her own life,
Suddenly, a flash of yellow sword light streaked by.
