CHAPTER 25

He was confused at everything that happened and his sister's weird actions only made it worse for him. There was something he hadn't come to know yet, and no one was willing to tell him either.

" I guess I'll have to find out myself." he thought, slowly walking forward.

The fallen trees began becoming more apparent and it wasn't long before he caught sight of a figure standing in the center of all that destruction, their eyes fixed on the starry sky.

" Hey," he said, slowly walking towards the strange figure.

It remained there, unmoving with innate energy calmer than anything he had ever sensed. Whoever it was clearly wasn't here for a fight, at least that was what he believed from the few observations he made.

" You finally made it, Megumi." she said, slowly turning around, " I've been waiting for you."

" Been waiting for me? You tried to throw me down a cliff. Don't you know I almost died because of you? And I would also appreciate it if you could keep it short." he said with a frown as he looked around the place once more.

She chuckled slightly, prompting his attention; he turned around to see her covering her mouth with her right hand and her gaze turned towards the ground.

She slowly looked up at him after that and said,

" Having my whip in your possession must make you confident. Well, I should warn you that I could take it from you anytime... if I wanted."

His frown slowly turned into a stern gaze after he heard her say all that and it only made him keen to know more about her. There wasn't anything he could deem special about her, even her combat abilities relied on her using specific terrains to her advantage.

He would have definitely won had it not been during the night…

" But anyway, since you're not ready to listen, then I guess I shall be taking my leave then." she said, slowly walking towards him, " come here; tomorrow night. When you're ready to pay attention."

He didn't say a word as he watched her walk away despite every single he wanted to ask at that moment. If anything, he felt like his time had been wasted and the cause of it all didn't seem to give a care in the world.

" I guess this is what happens when you're dealing with children," he mumbled, slowly turning around.

She was prompted to stop in her tracks as well, but he couldn't be bothered anymore. He had decided to give up on searching further from that point on and thought that it would perhaps be best for him as well.

It wasn't long before he returned to the house and went straight back to his room. For the time being, he tried to get everything he had heard and witnessed out of his mind and then, confront Ren later.

The next morning was bright and sunny as expected and all he wanted to do was stay in his room for the rest of the day. But, he was obligated to eat breakfast with his distant relatives.

He went to eat breakfast after brushing his teeth and arrived to see everyone including his sister already seated around the dining table.

He slowly walked forward and sat right next to her just before they were served their meals and they all began to eat after their thanks and prayers.

Eating with a bunch of total strangers would be a daunting task for anyone their age and it was one for him as well. There were eyes on him as usual but this time he actually wanted to do a great job of getting rid of them.

He quickly looked up after another bite, his gaze directed towards the left side of the table. It was a glance at the girl sitting just a bit to his side.

She quickly averted her gaze as soon as he looked towards her and that was when he decided to take the next step…

" Sis, is there any ability you know that allows you to know what is thinking just by looking at their… eyes?"

Everyone around the table immediately paused after his question but the girl he glimpsed at earlier seemed especially shocked by it.

" Megumi," she quietly called out, " Can we talk later?"

He slowly nodded his head as a smile ran across his face. The room was incredibly silent after that and it wasn't long before everyone was done with their meals.

He went straight back to his room and lay on his bed with a bright smile on his face. With the whole demon bullshit out of his mind, he now wanted to have fun while he still could, at least before he would go back to training like he used to.

A knock came on his door a few minutes later and in came the same girl who asked for a word with him. Her hair had a tiny blue hue to it compared to other members of his clan he had come across and the blue of her eyes wasn't as dark either.

She had a worried look and refused to maintain any form of eye contact with him knowing what he was obviously going to say.

He hopped up from his bed and walked towards the window before asking, " 'he's obviously lying' you said because you looked at my eyes… I'm surprised you were actually embarrassed by what you said that day, but you really have nothing to worry about around me."

She didn't say anything and simply kept her head down while still standing next to the door. She did feel embarrassed about what she said as he said, but what he did only made it worse.

" I'm dearly sorry." she apologized before slowly walking out of the room.

He slowly turned around a moment after that, but his vision immediately turned blurry, he fell to the ground without struggling even for a moment, just before he vanished.
