Chapter 20: Turning Into One?
CHAPTER 20
" So, with that out of the way, I guess it's time we begin."
" Begin what?" He asked, tossing aside the now empty bottle.
A glare was thrown at him immediately after that question as the boy slowly walked closer to him. Closing the gap between the both of them, he immediately yanked Megumi by the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer.
" The deal remember? You get to do whatever I ask you to for the rest of the week." He reminded before slowly letting go of him.
" Yeah, I'm not sure how exactly you think this goes but we agreed on that if only the potion works. Trust me, I'll kill you if it doesn't." He threatened, turning away his gaze as he stared into the far distance.
The boy giggled slightly, slowly walking towards him from behind. He quickly turned around, noticing his awkward reaction, but he was a bit too slow.
A kick came to the back of his knees and he was pushed forward, falling face down to the ground.
" Ugh." He groaned, slowly getting up from the ground as he looked up at the boy.
The boy immediately returned the intent stare with a rather mischievous smirk on his face,
" Well now, you ready to train?"
He turned away his face just as he got back on his feet, biting hard on his lower lip in an attempt to smudger his frustration. For a moment, he lifted his forefinger, slowly leaning it towards his lips.
Slowly, he opened up his mouth and bit down on it tearing out a piece of his flesh. He grimaced at the pain that he felt but managed to bear it as he slowly pulled away his hand from his mouth.
" I want you to summon a grade three demon here and now. Trusting you has been made hard as it is; perhaps it's time you proved to me that it actually works." He stated, staring intently at his wounded finger as his blood dripped to the ground.
The boy's smirk slowly turned into a look of shock then to a frown as he slowly approached Megumi. He quickly grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer, staring deep into his eyes.
" Trust me, you don't know what the hell you wanna get yourself into." He warned, slowly letting go of him.
Megumi slapped his hand away, returning the intent stare with a frown as well on his own. He was breathing heavily and could feel his chest tightening.
He quickly turned around, staring far into the view of the beach as he took a deep breath. Everything happening had been a little too much for him and he needed to let out some air.
" Here." The boy said, slapping something at the back of his neck.
It was solid on the surface and painless, rustling against the wind as it fell just before him — a magazine, or at least what seemed like it.
He bent down and slowly began to go through the pages. It was an interesting article, one on the deaths of people due to demons.
He kept reading until the middle of the pages, up to the point where he came upon a shocking discovery — the deaths hadn't been done by a demon, but by a rogue sorcerer.
Their addiction to demon blood got worse due to his huge curiosity about what had been forbidden. It was no different from an alcoholic getting hung over and having the great urge to get violent with everyone around them.
" How could they let something like this get leaked? Civilians knowing about this could ignite a lot of tension and it was just a year ago." He thought, turning to the next page of the book, "A transformation, or is it a transition?"
His eyes continued to twitch and tremble with each page of the book he read and it wasn't long before his hands began to shake due to the information he had come to learn — everything about what would happen to those who happened to drink demon blood.
To demons, blood was an igniter, one for their negative tendencies, and it only got worse when it turned out to be human blood. The consumption of demon blood would leave one in a state of transition, only beginning the full transformation once they finally get a taste of human blood.
But amidst all the mind chaos, the only effect against the possible mental disorientation would be what started the disorientation in the first place — demon blood.
An addiction would build up over time, and it wouldn't be long before they would all end up as demons.
" This is a warning, isn't it?" He asked, dropping the article straight to the ground.
" At least you're smarter when it's your life on the line dickhead — of course it's a warning. You're not only prone to demons but human blood as well in your condition. Stay away from one and find a way to deal with the other." He said, slapping Megumi against the head, " now then, you ready for training?"
