Chapter 18: Finally!
CHAPTER 18
At that moment, the only thing he could feel was the intense pain from the wound in his abdomen. His hands were trembling as he slowly reached for the wall in a bid to pull himself up.
But he couldn't — the pain was far too great for him to handle as the effects of the demonic blood continued to soar through his veins.
The only thing he could do was try to suppress the pain from the wound using his innate energy but it would have less than half of its effect due to the side effects he was currently suffering.
" Fu*k, why now?" He cursed, his eyes darting around the place, though he couldn't get a clear view.
Gritting his teeth, muffling the intense groans that would have escaped from his lips, he gripped the cave wall and slowly began pulling himself up from the ground.
More of his blood slowly dripped onto the floor. He kept his head against the wall, gritting his teeth even harder as he tried to bear the intense pain.
For a moment, he paused his breathing, the sound of his pulse echoing in his ears as he tried to turn his head. The sound of heavy footsteps approached him from behind, but they suddenly stopped.
He couldn't think of anything he could do at that moment to help himself. His condition had become severe, to the point that he couldn't move his limbs anymore.
" Grrr." The creature grunted, approaching him once more.
He tried to run but only ended up falling straight to the cave floor. He began crawling on the floor as fast as he could.
The sound of the thudding footsteps became faster all of a sudden as the demon charged straight toward him, wrapping its fingers around his collar and pulling him up from the ground.
He continued to breathe heavily, staring into the menacing eyes of the demon. Though they looked similar, it was different from the one that severed his arm.
Slowly raising its other hand, it pointed towards him and slowly, itself, before pushing him slightly away. Now having got his attention, it began carving something on the wall using its fingers — a message to the boy standing next to him.
" That can't be right." He mumbled, slowly stepping back, away from the gruesome creature.
~RUN~
The very words carved onto the wall by the demon appeared very clear to him, and he continued stepping backward until the demon slowly raised its fingers, pointing in the opposite direction.
He couldn't tell what grade the demon was, but the level of intelligence it showed wasn't something he was expecting. He was hesitant for a few seconds for a few seconds, contemplating what to do next given his current condition.
He decided to go forward either way. The creature was pointing towards the same direction he was just coming from and thus was the only reason for his hesitation.
As he staggered forward, slowly approaching another dark path, the place suddenly lit, revealing an exit — one that wasn't there a moment ago.
He quickly increased his pace, moving as fast as he could until he got to the edge of the exit. He leaped forward as soon as he got there, looking back at what he thought would have been the end of his Life.
Once again, the chattering of familiar voices resounded in the air. He looked around the place to see that everybody else was already out and he was the only one in a critical condition.
They all paused the moment they set their eyes on him, staring intently at him with awe and curiosity. They all were surprised, and the reason was still a mystery to him.
Not knowing what was happening, he could only look back at the cave entrance to see that there was nothing there. What could they possibly be thinking about him at that moment?
He was left in deep thoughts at that moment, not realizing when he was grabbed by both and pulled up from the ground.
" You did great." A familiar male voice came from the side before a slight pat on his head, "Come on, I'll help you get back to the house."
**********
With the boy's help, he was brought back but, unfortunately, he collapsed along the way. It was the second time that day, but who could blame him, considering how much he had gone through?
When he woke up he realized that it was already evening and he was lying on a bed. Looking around the place he could instantly tell that it was his room and could only heave a sigh of relief as he turned his gaze back to the ceiling.
The intense pain that he felt had faded, allowing him to rest peacefully. After staring blankly at the ceiling for a few seconds, he raised his hand and that was when he realized something — the restriction he felt around his left arm.
He raised his head slightly to see that there were bandages now wrapped around his left hand, all the way up to his shoulder and around his neck — perhaps as some sort of support, but it certainly felt painless.
A smile ran across his face, seeing that he wasn't going to lose his arm after all, at least not yet. However, all that joy and ecstasy he felt a moment ago quickly faded and he was hit with an overwhelming sense of boredom.
" I need some fresh air." He thought, slowly getting up from his bed.
He soon found himself sitting in front of the building's balcony, dwelling in deep thought of what recently happened. It all didn't feel real, and whether his mother had a hand in it was still unknown to him.
There was no one else outside apart from him and two guards standing in front of the door. He had the peacefulness of the night all to himself but it wasn't enough to subdue his bewildering thoughts.
Apparently, fresh air wasn't the solution at that point.
" Maybe a walk should help? I'll try not to go far."
He got outside the building but was a bit hesitant to go another meter far from it. The fact that he knew his strength did not make him fearless at all — the fear of all that he went through still lingered within him.
Without a second thought, he went straight back inside but he felt someone grab him by the collar of his shirt and pull him to the side.
Amidst the darkness provided due to the angle of the wall providing shade from the glow of the lightbulbs, he was still able to catch a glimpse of the person's white hair and green eyes.
" Come with me." Sounded a familiar male voice, the same he heard after he was lifted up from the ground back at the cave entrance.
" Let go of me." He said, struggling away from the boy's grip.
He stepped away, but the boy grabbed a hold of him once more, and they both instantly disappeared — consumed by his shadows.
