Chapter 17: We're Not Going Anywhere.

CHAPTER 17

" It's okay if you don't wanna come, I just wanted to let you know anyway."

With his last few words, he turned around and straight back from where he was just returning from. With a missing arm and aching legs, stressing his wounds would only make running more of a hassle for him.

But his sister wasn't his main priority — something was happening to him — an after-effect of the demon blood he drank a while ago.

His heart was thumping and he could feel his chest tightening as he moved further away from them — he couldn't breathe, and it only got worse as time went on.

" Shit." He cursed, falling to the ground.

He quickly got up, taking to his heels once more. He took another route, into a dark path where he quickly took off his shirt and knelt on the ground.

His veins were bulging and pulsing with a bright blue glow. The left side of his chest had been partially infected by whatever was happening to him.

Blue vines ran from the point of his fainting heart, spreading towards his left shoulder and right chest as well. His condition continued to get worse until his wounded body began aching once more.

He was struggling to suppress the foreign dark energy engulfing his body with his own but he could only slow the process down by hours. His condition only continued to get worse.

Headaches soon began before his gaze began blurring. Staying in his current location meant death for him, but he couldn't let the others set sight on him either.

The side effects he was suffering weren't foreign to anyone, especially not a group of kids who had spent their lifetime studying the gruesome creatures. Making up excuses was a waste of his time and he wanted to end things as soon as possible.

" Where the hell did the green-eyed kid go? His abilities could really prove helpful right now." He thought, looking around the place as he slowly stood up from the ground.

He walked out of the dark corner, stepping onto the light once again. But he couldn't take another step further — no matter how hard he tried, his leg couldn't move any further from where it was.

" Damnit. Fuck!" He whined, looking down at the ground as he scrounged up his face.

Instantly, he slid into the ground, almost like there was a hole present there before. It began feeling like there was something, slowly crawling up his body, binding him as it made its way around him.

He was covered all the way to his head and shrouded in thick darkness. Drowned in darkness, his descent began soon after, and he found himself standing in even more darkness.

There wasn't any binding present once more but he couldn't move his legs just like before. There was an ominous presence of external energy flowing around him, but he couldn't make sense of it.

Whether he could even count it as light energy was a question he would ask himself as soon as he found a way to free himself from the predicament he now found himself in.

" Damnit! I've used more than fifty percent of my energy reserves and it still won't budge. What the hell is this ability anyway?" He thought, trying as hard as possible to pull up his leg.

" Megumi." A familiar female voice resounded, " Megumi, you can hear me, right?"

He immediately paused at the voice he just heard, looking around the place in complete awe — it was his sister calling out to him, but the sound of her voice seemed to be coming from all directions.

" Found him." Another voice resounded. It was a male voice and the green-eyed boy appeared before him soon after that.

Before he could comment on every bewildering thing he had come to witness, he vanished once more, appearing amid a dark space.

The dust on the ground rustled as he slowly shifted back his feet and looked around the place. He couldn't see nor could he feel anything.

As he kept looking, he caught a glimpse of light shining in the distance, prompting him to begin moving towards it. He slowly caught with the light, shielding his eyes with both hands as he trod forward.

" Do me a favor and stay still. The mind is a very delicate space, and I, for one can't concentrate with you disrupting its peace."

It was another female voice, resounding in the desolate space with no specific angle from which the sound was coming.

" Who-"

" Gosh, did you not hear a single thing I just said? Just remain right where you are and make you don't say, or do anything."

" Fine." He thought, looking around the place once more while trying as much as possible not to move a single part of his body.

He still felt confused by everything happening around him, but he could only wait till whoever was talking to him to reveal herself.

The voice though unfamiliar sounded similar to some other voice he had heard recently — that of one of the three girls who were in the room with them — they all had white hair so it was hard to distinguish them.

" Honestly, I wish I had paid more attention to what they f*cking looked like."

~Bang!

The ground rumbled, shaking him off balance. He reached out his hand trying to grab onto something, but he couldn't see anything.

~Bang!

The ground shook once more, the ground sloping, prompting him to begin rolling across it. He kept on reaching out his hand, in search of something to hold onto, but he couldn't reach anything.

Suddenly...

He felt his entire body hit a barrier — a rough one. His abdomen ached from the impact as he slowly reached out his hand towards the wall.

A strange, familiar feeling hit him once more — he could finally feel his body once more. His eyes instantly widened, his view now fixated on the wall before him, and the pool of blood that continued to soar across the cave floor.

His eyes slowly trailed downwards, towards his abdomen. He was bleeding badly from a hole that had been made there and was now against the cave wall.

" What the hell... happened to me?"
