Chapter 66: Chapter 66

Danzo sneered, "Such a fast technique, truly worthy of the 'Shisui of the Body Flicker.'"
Shisui gritted his teeth, glaring at Danzo as he emerged from the forest. "Danzo, what is the meaning of this? Why would you attack your own allies without cause?!"
Danzo shook his head, looking at Shisui with disdain. "Allies? Don't joke. Ever since Uchiha Madara attacked Konoha, the village has never truly considered the Uchiha clan as allies. The Second Hokage foresaw the risk of another Madara rising among you. And now, it seems his words have become reality, with Uchiha Toki acting as the second coming of Madara."
Shisui angrily retorted, "How dare you accuse us of disloyalty? Our clan has been protecting the village, fighting on the frontlines, and sacrificing lives for Konoha!"
Danzo scoffed, his tone cold and dismissive. "The Uchiha clan only seeks power through rebellion. If Konoha were to fall under Uchiha control, it would be dragged into endless wars. Look no further than the current battlefield against the Hidden Cloud as proof. I originally thought I could eliminate Toki, but it seems Hiruzen also underestimated him. Fortunately, your Sharingan eyes will serve my research well."
Danzo slowly removed the bandages over his right eye, revealing a scarlet Sharingan. "Your Sharingan are nothing but tools. They weaken with each use, eventually succumbing to blindness. Some forbidden techniques even consume the Sharingan itself to activate."
Shisui stared in shock. "Sharingan?! How is that possible?!"
Danzo sneered, tossing the bandages aside. "There was once a Sharingan user, a man without parents, without teachers, who killed his friend and gave his Sharingan as a gift. That Sharingan should have been used by the village, but your clan selfishly reclaimed it."
Shisui's face darkened, anger rising. "What nonsense is this? You accuse us of ignoring the bonds of comradeship, yet you claim Kakashi's Sharingan as if it were your birthright. That eye belongs to Uchiha!"
A sudden realization hit Shisui. His voice trembled as he asked, "Danzo, where did you get your Sharingan?"
Danzo's crooked smile widened. "Your clan's legacy has proven most useful. Your grandfather's Sharingan, in particular, was invaluable to my research."
Shisui froze. His voice cracked with fury. "You...you monster!"
Danzo ordered his men, "Take his eyes!"
Kunai shot toward Shisui from all directions. The injured Uchiha clansman accompanying him bit his tongue, spitting blood as he summoned his last strength. "Go, Shisui! Live!"
He shielded Shisui with his body and cast a defensive jutsu. "Earth Release: Earth Flow Wall!" The wall blocked the kunai from the front, while the man's body took the brunt of the remaining attack.
"Murakami!" Shisui roared in grief.
Danzo's voice echoed ominously. "Since Uchiha opposes the village, it's time to eliminate you all. Even Hiruzen agrees with me. This is for Konoha's peace. Rest assured, your Sharingan will be put to good use, just like your grandfather's."
Danzo launched a Wind Release attack. "Wind Release: Vacuum Blade!"
Shisui dodged narrowly, charging at Danzo with his own kunai in hand. Their battle escalated, with both exchanging fierce blows. Danzo's peak strength rivaled Shisui's speed and precision.
"For the village, sacrifices must be made," Danzo declared.
Shisui countered furiously. "Sacrifices?! Sacrificing others isn't justice!"
With a burst of chakra, Shisui unleashed his Mangekyō Sharingan, activating Susano'o. A green skeletal structure emerged, protecting him from the surrounding attacks.
Danzo's eyes widened in shock, then delight. "A Mangekyō Sharingan? Truly a prodigy of the Uchiha clan. What magnificent power..."
Shisui pressed his advantage, launching his Mangekyō technique. "Kotoamatsukami!" A golden light engulfed the area, trapping Danzo's men in an illusion. One by one, they collapsed, their spirits shattered by the overwhelming genjutsu.
Breathing heavily, Shisui turned his attention to Danzo. "It's over..."
But suddenly, pain pierced through him. A blade stabbed him from behind, crimson blood staining his clothing. Shisui coughed, looking down at the weapon in disbelief.
"How...?" he gasped.
Danzo's voice echoed, smug and cold. "Did you truly think I would fall so easily? Your Mangekyō is indeed powerful, but it will soon be mine."
The man Shisui thought he had defeated dissolved into nothing—a result of Izanagi. Danzo's figure emerged from the shadows, his Sharingan shining ominously.
"Indeed, it's a powerful ability—far surpassing your grandfather's Mangekyō."
Uchiha Kagami's Mangekyō Sharingan ability was limited to remotely controlling objects, the same ability later shown by the experimental body, Uchiha Shin, in Naruto Gaiden.
After Danzo acquired Kagami's Mangekyō Sharingan, he transplanted one into his right eye and gave the other to Orochimaru to aid in experiments on both the Sharingan and Hashirama's cells, utilizing Shin's unique physiology that prevented organ rejection.
Danzo's right arm was replaced with one of Shin's arms, which had been imbued with Hashirama's cells. However, the arm's interwoven Senju DNA proved too potent for even Shin's body to handle, forcing Danzo to seal the arm to prevent its destruction.
Over the years, Kagami's Mangekyō Sharingan had been a vital asset for Danzo, helping him defeat numerous formidable opponents. Yet, with its repeated use, the eye's vision had almost completely deteriorated.
Now, with Shisui caught in his trap through the use of Izanagi, Danzo could once again claim a pair of Mangekyō Sharingan. This would be the stepping stone to seizing control of the Nine-Tails' Jinchūriki and, ultimately, the Hokage's seat he had long coveted.
"You have proven quite resilient, worthy of the Uchiha Clan's finest ninja," Danzo mused as he surveyed the battlefield. Despite his extensive preparations, Shisui had still managed to inflict heavy losses on his elite forces.
Shisui staggered backward, clutching the wound on his abdomen as he glared at Danzo. His keen eyes caught sight of Danzo's now-pale Sharingan.
"Izanagi... a forbidden technique?!"
Danzo gestured to his subordinates and coldly commanded, "Focus on his right eye first. That technique is too dangerous."
Another squad of ROOT operatives emerged from the forest, advancing cautiously toward Shisui.
Danzo sneered and said, "Let's see what kind of power your other eye holds."
Shisui's left eye flared with determination, his Mangekyō spinning wildly.
"If that's what you want..."
Danzo quickly erected an earth barrier in anticipation of another Kotoamatsukami attack. However, no golden light appeared.
The ROOT operatives moved to encircle Shisui cautiously, their kunai poised to strike.
Shisui made no attempt to resist. His body, weakened and bleeding, stood still as the kunai pierced his limbs.
Danzo felt an uneasy tension rise within him. His instincts urged caution, but he dismissed them.
"Take him back to the ROOT base," he ordered.
One of the squad leaders hesitated before asking, "Lord Danzo, shouldn't we inform the Hokage?"
Danzo shot the man a scornful look. "We came here to deal with Uchiha Toki. Since he isn't here, it's as though we found nothing. Do you understand?"
The squad leader nodded. "Understood, sir."
"Take the Sharingan from the bodies of the dead and clean up the scene," Danzo ordered.
"Yes, sir!"
---
After an unknown amount of time, a black vortex spiraled into existence in the clearing. Toki stepped out, his face darkened with anger. The battlefield had been meticulously cleaned, leaving no trace of the confrontation.
Toki sensed faint residual chakra in the area and frowned.
"Am I too late?"
He glanced at the system panel, confirming Shisui was still alive. "Did he escape, or was he captured?"
Toki examined the surroundings for any clues but found nothing. The ROOT operatives had erased all evidence of their activities, leaving him frustrated.
"Damn it. Was it Danzo or Sarutobi Hiruzen?"
While Toki wasn't overly concerned with a single Kage-level opponent, Shisui's Kotoamatsukami posed a significant threat.
Even with his reincarnated state and system advantage, Toki knew that protecting his clan from Kotoamatsukami's subtle and insidious effects would be challenging.
"As long as you realize you've been affected, it's possible to resist its influence..." Toki muttered, recalling how Mifune had been subtly controlled during the Five Kage Summit but regained clarity when Ao exposed the genjutsu.
Unable to find any leads, Toki returned to the Uchiha compound and found Uchiha Tetsuka recovering. Although pale and exhausted, Tetsuka's eyes glimmered with the power of his newly awakened Mangekyō Sharingan.
"Lord Toki, what happened earlier?" Tetsuka asked.
Shiyu waved him off, his expression grim. "Shisui was attacked."
"What?!"
"It was likely someone from the ANBU or ROOT," Toki explained.
Tetsuka, his face flushed with anger, gripped his fists tightly. "Those damn old relics! We risk our lives protecting Konoha, and this is how they repay us?!"
Toki wasn't surprised. ROOT was designed by Hiruzen to eliminate political threats under the guise of protecting peace, an act he found both hypocritical and disgraceful.
"The important thing," Toki said, "is that Shisui has awakened his Mangekyō. His Kotoamatsukami is a dangerous technique—it can manipulate a person's will completely and permanently without them realizing it."
Tetsuka's face paled. "That's... terrifying."
"To counter it," Toki continued, "I want you to establish a subconscious defense mechanism within the clan. Have everyone reflect daily on their loyalty to the Uchiha. If someone finds their thoughts changing unnaturally, they need to report it immediately."
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Tetsuka nodded solemnly. "I'll make sure it's done."
He hesitated before asking, "But are we just going to let this go?"
A cold glint flashed in Toki's eyes. "Do you think I'm like Fugaku? If they want to play dirty, we'll respond in kind."
His voice turned icy. "The ANBU Commander is Sarutobi Hiruzen's son, isn't he? Let's start with him."
