Reborn With a Magic System

The Ferocious Beast vanished in a cloud of smoke and the familiar mechanical voice rang through the battle simulator.

"D Rank Ferocious Beast round complete. Now beginning C Rank Ferocious Beast round," a mechanical sounding voice resounded through the room.

Damion readied himself for an intense fight. The first Ferocious Beast he would face would be a C Rank beast towards the low end of the Rank, just like he was. Damion had fought C Rank beasts before, the memory of his fight with the Deinosuchus, when the Magic System finally unlocked came to mind, but he was stronger now than he had been then. Surely, he would be able to take on a Ferocious Beast of his own level, after all he killed plenty of Ferocious and Demonic Beasts that were higher Rank than he was in the past.

When the Ferocious Beast appeared, Damion almost fell down in shock.

Instead of a terrifying beast that could tear Damion limb from limb, there was a small turtle slowly walking towards him. The turtle was no more than 15 centimeters long and looked completely ordinary. His immediate thought was that this was some kind of joke. That someone was outside the battle simulator right now laughing their head off because they had switched Damion's next Ferocious Beast with a harmless turtle.

Would Elicia have done that? But he had told her she did not need to wait. Did that mean someone else had come by the battle simulator and changed the settings? Was that even possible? Damion had no idea what was going on, but he figured if he cleared the round then he would likely get back on track.

Raising his palm, Damion cast Ice Shard at the turtle. The least he could do was give the pathetic simulation a quick end. When the spell hit the creature it was quite the surprise for him when his ice crystal did not pierce its shell. Instead of killing the creature, Damion's spell was deflected off the turtle's shell and hit the barrier on the side of the room.

Perturbed that his spell had failed to kill the Ferocious Beast, he cast Ice Shard again. This time he aimed at the Ferocious Beast's head. When Damion's spell shot out, the turtle pulled its head and legs inside its shell and his spell harmlessly struck the floor.

Now he was beginning to get annoyed. Stretching out his palm again, he cast another Ice Shard. Once again the spell bounced off the turtle's shell, but he was not done. He cast Ice Shard several more times, his goal to break through the turtle's shell. Unfortunately for Damion, his spells continued to bounce off.

After he was done venting his frustration with useless Ice Shards, Damion paused to consider the situation. The Ferocious Beast was able to deflect his spells either by a high defense or by an ability or perhaps the combination of both.

Now sure that facing this Ferocious Beast this round was not a joke, Damion decided to try a different spell. From his mouth came a wave of freezing air as Damion cast Ice Breath. As the spell approached the turtle he saw his spell get pushed around the Ferocious Beast's shell.

This told Damion the turtle did have some sort of natural deflection ability and that was how it was able to repeatedly deflect his Ice Shards. When he ended Ice Breath, he saw bits of frost coating the turtle's shell. Evidently, the Ferocious Beast's ability could not completely protect it, that or his Ice Breath had simply overwhelmed the ability.

Damion cast another Ice Shard to test the Ferocious Beast's defense, and this time the spell's ice crystal penetrated into the turtle's shell. The creature did not vanish into smoke, so he cast several more Ice Shards. Each ice crystal piercing into the shell of the Ferocious Beast until it looked like some sort of spikey ice turtle. After the sixth Ice Shard the Ferocious Beast finally vanished.

Now that he had managed to kill the Ferocious Beast, Damion was quite happy. Unfortunately, now he was going to be forced to fight a midrange C Rank Ferocious Beast. When the new turtle appeared a few seconds later, slightly larger and with a shinier shell, Damion had a feeling that even if he could overwhelm the turtle's defensive ability, his Ice Shard would not be able to penetrate the turtle's shell.

As the turtle came closer, Damion cast Ice Breath and watched as his spell was split and flowed around Ferocious Beast. Seeing his previously successful tactic fail, he backed away from the turtle. So far, the Ferocious Beast had not attacked, but Damion felt the creature had to have some sort of attack and he did not want to be caught off guard by it.

Damion watched as the Ferocious Beast slowly moved across the room, seemingly completely ignoring him. Being ignored by the turtle felt like a slap in the face, clearly this Ferocious Beast felt like Damion posed no threat to it, so it did not care about his existence at all.

Damion ran up to the Ferocious Beast and grabbed hold of its shell. With a cast of Icy Grasp, the Ferocious Beast stopped in its tracks and let out a low moan before vanishing into smoke.

Damion still had a satisfied smile on his face when the third C Rank Ferocious Beast appeared. Now the turtle was close to a full meter in length and was moving significantly faster, though it was still not fast enough to easily be able to strike Damion if it attacked.

Not wasting any time, Damion quickly moved to the side of the turtle and cast Icy Grasp. The Ferocious Beast struggled against his grasp, but after a few moments the giant turtle grew still and vanished into smoke.

Next would be the three peak C Rank Ferocious Beasts at once, but since Damion was able to easily defeat one, he knew he would still be able to defeat all three.

As the Ferocious Beasts appeared Damion ran up to the side of the first one and with a bit of effort, flipped the turtle over onto its back. The other two Ferocious Beasts moved to help their comrade, one moving to block Damion and the other appeared to be trying to flip its friend back over.

Damion did not wait to see what the Ferocious Beasts would do and quickly grabbed the one closest to him and cast Icy Grasp. The turtle tried to spin itself and get free of Damion's grip, but after a few seconds the Ferocious Beast stopped struggling and vanished into smoke.

The third Ferocious Beast was close to getting the first one flipped over, with it almost fully up on its side, giving Damion a good look at the turtle's underside. He cast Ice Shard, and the ice crystal snuck into the turtle's soft under shell. Two Ice Shard's later and the first turtle vanished into smoke.

Damion rushed over to the third turtle and cast Icy Grasp as he took hold of the side of the turtle's shell. A few seconds later the final Ferocious Beast vanished into smoke.

Proud of himself, Damion let out a triumphant, "Yes!"

"C Rank Ferocious Beast round failed. Would you like to try again?" the mechanical voice said over the intercom.
